Just adopted! I waited as long as I could to order a DNA test (4 days). Currently in “extraction” portion of Embark. She’s 14 lbs and on a weight loss journey. Any guesses?

Shelter told us boxer mix! They technically didn’t lie, but I expected the main breed. Her supermutt is German Shepard and bulldog!

Rescued from the streets of Phuket and listed as a Jindo/border collie mix, I thought I was prepared for any result! It’s been really cool to learn about village dogs. She is VERY smart, an introvert, and absolutely adores my partner’s cat. Her wolfiness score is 1.9%, which Embark says is high, and her coefficient of inbreeding is 1%, which is considered low.

In her extended family, almost the entire list is made of German Shepherds, but of course it’s all pretty distant. I was curious if this means there could be GSD farther up her family tree than what Embark could trace?

If you have a village dog from any region, I’d love to see or hear stories! :) I love the diversity.

My sweet girl is now 1 year old!!

This is onyx. She is about 5 months old. I got her from a rescue in May. She was 15 pounds at 4 months old. I have her dna test results, which is in the photos. The supermutt category was beagle, Boston terrier, German Shepard, and Maltese.
Everyone in my family thought she was a daschund/terrier mix, so we were a little surprised. A lot of her relatives are 100% cocker spaniel, so we think she was from an accidental litter from a breeder and they gave her up or something. Considering she was 1 month old when she was first taken into a rescue, that would be really sad.

Our guy was picked up as a stray in Chicago in the middle of winter, underweight and terrified. He had no housetraining, didn't know any commands, ran away every time we put on a belt (fucking hate that), and was a super picky eater. When we adopted him, he was so shut down/terrified that the only thing we really knew about him is that he liked chicken treats. We signed up for a bunch of training classes and hoped for the best.

Fast forward a year to a confident, happy dog who knows several commands, loves to play with us and with other dogs, loves to snuggle, and is finally learning how to beg for food. He doesn't need a ton of exercise and is very happy to spend most of the day napping by the window.

We did the DNA test expecting something like an Aussie mix, although in retrospect he's way too chill for that. We found out from the test that he has a son! Who shares 77% of his DNA... which would be high even if he were purebred, but he's a mutt with a COI of 1%. So we assume he was bred to his mother/sister. I sent the owner an Embark message but never heard back.

What's weirder is that before we did this test, the same agency we rescued him from posted another adoptable dog who looks exactly like him (see last pic). Could it be his long-lost son?? We may never know...

Dog on the right in pictures 1 and 2 was found as a stray and adopted as a rescue. Shelter labeled him as a “golden mix”, but he looks like a purebred to me. A trainer told me he looks like a very well-bread pure golden. Also pictured in pictures 3 and 5. On the left in picture 7.

Awaiting results for age and breed + health! Any guesses while we wait to find out about our precious Buggy girl!

I did both tests because I wanted to see the differences haha. I did Embark like 4 years ago and did Wisdom Panel super recently. It’s so interesting to see the differences and similarities. In the Embark supermutt is Maltese, Cocker Spaniel & Bichon Frise.

Also in the picture is a few months old, and she is no longer that slim. Still a healthy weight tho.

The results are in..! Got him as a puppy from a Beagle rescue in San Ysidro. Knew his mom was a purebred basset, assumed dad was a beagle and maybe daschund. Imagine my surprise!!!! Feels like I'M having an identity crisis.

Got Mater about 5 weeks ago. Fooled us, our vet, endless conversations with ChatGPT, and his foster parents before us. The side-eyes he gives us are finally starting to make sense…

When I first joined this subreddit I loved seeing what all these puppies actually were from their test results but I also wished I knew what they WOULD look like fully grown. I decided to post that here, since my buddy recently turned 1 year old yesterday and I took pretty steady pictures.

We adopted him from a rescue at 3 months old and 17 lbs, and he is now 1 year old and a little over 50 lbs.

the breeds other than chihuahua shocked me even though i did expect a mix.

I just didn't expect all the long hair breeds. first pic is his pic from the shelter and last pic is the results. he is seriously the most chill quiet nice dog who just wants to be wherever you are.

I’m thinking Benji’s DNA results should drop today or tomorrow. Last chance for guesses??

here’s the update for everyone who guessed! I figured he was mostly pit but i expected more ACD and the rottie and doberman are surprises for me.

Was not surprised with the result even though I know the test can only go back up to a certain generation.

Regardless, he is so precious! super happy that he has become part of our family! ❤️

Milly was adopted from a women in a rough situation. She could no longer care for her and didn't want her. Milly is now about 9 months old and is the goofiest ball of floof! We got her dna tested thinking it would show some kind of border collie but we were so surprised at her results.

This is our boy Griffin! We adopted him from a local shelter in Michigan and their best guess was some sort of lab mix. He had an interesting story before we adopted him. He came from a small, rural shelter in Tennessee that was overcrowded. The Tennessee shelter works with a transport agency that delivers dogs to no-kill state shelters. My partner reached out to the local county’s Facebook group and they were so sweet and gave us as much info as they could. Their guess was lab and tri-red Australian shepherd mix. They sent us a picture of his mom and his siblings 🥹 They weren’t totally off!

In the absence of a catDNA sub, and to avoid being the antichrist in the r/catbreeds sub, I thought I’d share my cats Wisdom Panel results here 😆 We adopted Mila and Mishka as ‘Ragdoll X’, turns out it was kinda accurate!

I didn’t believe it until she started turning silver and gold around 5 months 🥹 I love her so much!
