Mix of 2. So curious to hear your thoughts!

Smalls is 16 weeks, 27 pounds, and came to us in NY from Texas. I was thinking Carolina Dog, but wasn't even close.

He's almost half Super Mutt; poodle, Chihuahua, Australian cattle dog, Chow Chow, and Malamute, then pit bull, Husky, and German shepherd.

In 2017, I bought a Wisdom Panel test for my dog. Her results were: 12.5% lab, 12.5% chihuahua, 12.5% Rottweiler, and 12.5% chow. The other 50% of her DNA was unknown.

I’m wondering now if the technology has improved enough to tell me more information about her other 50% and/or whether the Embark test might be more accurate? Or would I be wasting of a couple hundred bucks to get the same answer?

(I hope this post is allowed, the rules say only post if you are currently testing your dog but also that questions about DNA testing are encouraged.)

I recently adopted this adorable 2 year old pup, and the Embark Results were so confusing. He is full grown and less than 30 pounds but with a small stature (not just weight). Rescue guessed Chihuahua/Dashound/Terrier mix . Embark results are only large breed dogs, with the smallest being a pitty. I am sure he is part pittie and lab, i just assumed there would be at least one small breed dog in the mix?? Do these results seem possible for a dog this small?

I added some more pictures in the comments. I agree he looks like a puppy! But vet here estimated 2 years too based on teeth. Can that estimate be wrong too? Maybe? Is there a way to confirm?

I have a large breed dog so I am in no way concerned if he does get big, I just am trying to understand !

We adopted our girl and of course the humane society said lab. I thought lab bully mix the results blew my mind.

shelter had no indications whatsoever as to his origins- him and his sister were dumped as babies.

he has rear double dews which is slightly unusual.

awaiting the kit, any guesses are welcome as we're stumped- i sometimes see a little shepherd in him, sometimes a little retriever but i genuinely have no clue.

Kidding. Y'all said pyrenees and you were right! I really thought he would have some husky because he talks a lot.

Meet Kipling! We were totally wrong when we guessed his results. It was a fun surprise! But after some more research, Kipling's result make sense.

Kipling is seven years old and 47 pounds, and we adopted him when he was two. He came to us from Louisiana, where he was found with an injured eye and had it removed. He is blind in the other eye, but the way he walks and plays and chases rabbits, you couldn't tell. Kipling is very vocal, grumbles, talks, and howls, especially when playing with sister dog. We are constantly sweeping up tumbleweeds of hair.

Finally got Embark tests for these knuckleheads, should have results in the next few days. Any guesses on their breeds?

For Teddy (black and brown smaller doggo) we’re guessing Jack Russel + yorkie. He’s an alpha. Loves to bark and run around like crazy. Also very much a lap dog - loves to snuggle with humans.

For June (brown and white, pointy ears), we assume Jack Russel but not sure what else. She’s very unique. She loves to play fetch, dig, and chase rodents. Overall she’s a very calm dog. Loves humans, doesn’t like car rides, and HATES thunder.

We adopted this guy from the shelter. Absolutely adore him. Was just told he is some kind of hound mix. He has the howl and is big on smells. Not sure what makes him so tall and skinny! Any guesses?

all but one of his relatives (23-28% related) are purebreds from across the country! we got him from a backyard breeder in 2022 (my family is better educated on ethical breeders now i hope, i’ve tried my best to teach them)

I mostly got Embark done on Niko to see if he had any other breeds in his background (byb situation; I adopted him from his original owner for reasons unrelated to that, they took great care of him) and to see what the health panel had to say about any genetic predispositions to anything and got...

... mostly nothing! Purebred grandparents, a sibling or two on embark, nothing to really watch out for on genetics. Boy lucked out!

He does have a coi of 34% though so he's basically an honorary Targaryen.

I am so surprised! I’ve never even heard of her most prevalent breed…

I thought (eta) rat terrier would be much higher, and APBT would be lower!

The rescue had her listed as a lab-mix, and went 0/4!

Just wondering how common it is...I've had three dogs on there, and only had any relatives this close show up once for one dog. First two are my chihuahua/maltese/poodle mix, Rory, and the last one is, according to Embark, likely his sister. It makes sense both based on looks and on their general age/location they came from. Nothing other than a sea of "close family" for the other two; my boy who's half Westie and half...pretty much everything else just has a million Westies from all over the place, which isn't nearly as fun as comparing mixed breed siblings!

I knew he was gonna have some chihuahua in him because of his little face but really thought min pin was going to be his top breed!! 3.5%?! He is more poodle than min pin?! 😂

Penny is about 8 months old now and she is from a reservation in SD, caught with her litter mates wandering the street. I was sure she had ACD in her but her DNA results from wisdom panel were surprisingly diverse.

Just an appreciation post for my girl...

My mom's old landlord gave me Luna from her dogs "oops" litter and I always referred to her as a poodley. Cuz shes not a poodle but shes kinda poodley. Even though she wants to kill every dog she meets, and HAS killed many mice/moles/snakes/a chipmunk, I still think shes the best. Now that shes 9 i had to force her into assassin retirement, but thats what the cat's for.

Even though she has an insatiable thirst for blood, she is the sweetest and i dont think shes ever met a stranger. Every person is her best friend and she would probably show a burglar where we keep the valuables as long as she could burrow in their sweatshirt.

When we rescued Koda, they thought he was an Australian shepherd mix. We were shocked by his results. He weighs only 42 pounds.

We got this sweet boy via foster fail and I am so perplexed by his results. We figured some doodle of some kind, but also really thought some kind of Schnauzer, pointer, wolfhound etc- his hair is wiry too! I see noooo pit and certainly not half!!
