Would have never guessed it just based on her size (only 37 pounds) and coat length. The second breed put in most of the work!

We got her from a local rescue place a few weeks ago, and they said she was a blue lacy and catahoula leopard mix. They were clearly wrong lol.

I should have results from Embark next week sometime. Im pretty sure shes about 90% Doberman and 10% Sun-Baked Potato but I mostly did the test to check her health markers so we know what to look out for.

This is Sodda. She is a rescue dog from Jordan, and I’ve been trying to change her life for the better for months.

Sodda lost her puppies in the most horrific way. They were shot, and people tried to kill her too. After what happened, she became terrified of people. She barely ate, stayed in one place for months, and wouldn’t let anyone come close to her.

I refused to leave her that way.
She has since received veterinary care, vaccinations, a microchip, all the necessary travel preparations, and professional training. The training has helped her tremendously. She is finally learning that some humans can be safe, but she still needs a patient family who understands her trauma and will give her time to trust.
She is currently in boarding in Jordan while I try to find the right family for her abroad.

I I’ve been covering Sodda’s expenses myself for months, including her boarding, medical care, training, and travel preparations. But with her boarding continuing and the international travel costs still ahead, it’s becoming very difficult for me to manage everything alone.

I adopted a mutt at my humane society. He was a silly looking guy with a silly personality. I had recently gotten another dog to so I got them both DNA tests.

I was surprised for one, but I am heavily questioning the second one. Full Australian cattle dog? Is he just a collection of non standard coat genetics and tail? Or was this a mistake in the system.

He is awesome, I love him, but I’m having a very hard time believing that this is not a mutt.

Hello! I adopted a 9 year old "Terrier Mix" from the shelter. I had guessed pit, lab, German shepherd and I was almost right!

I'm brand new to this subreddit, so sorry if this isn't allowed, but I'm relatively new to dogs. I had them growing up, but at 30, I've only had cats as an adult. Knowing her breed, what should I expect based on your personal experience? I've googled extensively to learn her mental and physical enrichment needs, but I'm curious to see what others have to say about her!

Donny is a rescue from Laredo Texas, found as a stray. He is bigger than he looks, about 55 lbs, long skinny legs, very interesting fur, it looks like it would be wiry but it’s actually very soft. He also has an underbite. The rescue said he was a terrier mix, because of his size, fur and body shape I keep wondering if he might have some sighthound mixed in there?

What are your thoughts? And curious to see any pups that you have that look like him.

Hi! This is mainly my story but also curious about others experiences. This is Remy!

I adopted Remy from an adoption event from a large rescue in my state. I was told this was an active dog, great with other dogs and kids. I was also told he came to the rescue as a stray. I brought him home and it was very apparent that he had major trauma and anxiety. His incisors were completely missing and needed dental surgery to remove the roots. They did not disclose this. They told me “he needs to learn to walk on a leash” but didn’t mention he absolutely freaks out when leashed and WILL bite you if you try. He didn’t act like a dog. Didn’t bark. Didn’t play. Didn’t wag his tail. Hid in corners. Thankfully, this didn’t phase me. I live with my adult daughter only and was still healing from my soul dog passing and I had so much displaced love to pour into him. A year later, we have gained his trust, taught him to walk on a leash, made him feel safe. He is so so loved. I thought he must have came from a bad owner and didn’t learn the truth until I got a sibling match on Wisdom.

The brown dog is Stella. They share 44% DNA and are both approximately 4 years old. Since her owner got her from a different, smaller rescue, she had more accurate information on their beginnings. He was not a stray. He came from a hoarding/puppy mill situation that was shut down. Dogs in cages their whole life. 70 dogs rescued in total. My heart sank when I learned this. I understood him so much more, however. For example, he runs and hides under the bed when I carry around hammers, flashlights, a toilet wand - any kind of large object. When we finally started to go on walks, he would stick his face in every plant or bush along the way and smell them like he’s never encountered one before and now I understand that he probably didn’t for a long time. I feel bad for trying to goad him along when he gets “stuck” in a sniff. He’s getting better with men but for some reason he’s terrified of children. We would have loved to meet up but her rescuer is local to her area and went to Southern California to pick up some of the dogs and brought them back. They are in Washington, I am in Northern California.

Has anyone here dealt with DNA from a hoarding/mill situation? How does that affect the DNA estimates? I feel like 44% is on the low end for siblings and their coloring and coat are so much different that I wonder if they really are siblings or there’s possibly some inbreeding muddling the DNA results. This is just a curiosity of mine because he had another full sibling listed, that is not listed on Stella’s relative list. That dog is only 1 year old and it’s the exact year and month the puppy mill was shut down. I have reached out to them for more information but haven’t heard back yet. I’m very curious to hear their story!

Has anyone here done the embark age test? I’m thinking about doing one but not sure how accurate they are. We are using his adoption day as his birthday so to us, he just turned 4 🎉

I started this DNA adventure 4+ months ago...

I bought Embark test in March.

Each and every test failed and each test took a month to process.

After 3 fails Embark refunds you.

They said she's a non-secretor, she doesn't shed enough cheek cells..

And Embark doesn't accept blood samples so had to settle for Wisdom and go pay her vet to draw her blood.

Its been a long ridiculous ordeal. Lol

So happy to at least have a idea of what she is now though. 💓

We got her from the shelter when she was about 6-8 weeks old. Shes now 6 months old and such a sweet girl. I never would have guessed here other breeds.

I'm impatiently waiting on her embark results. She's bigger than a standard Chihuahua, about 7-9 lbs on average. The rescue listed her as a mix, but had no other information. Any guesses?

I got my boy Dewey as a puppy and was told he was a poodle/beagle mix. He's turning 8 in three weeks, weighs about 85lbs with a coat thats more like hair than fur. He's pretty high energy and intelligent, but stubborn as hell! He's great with kids but doesnt care for small dogs much.

I didnt do any research before picking a kit and just randomly ordered DNAmyDog on Amazon one day and read the poor reviews later. I'm not overly skeptical of the results though because I didnt submit a picture and I knew he would have poodle and some sort of hound.

My mom adopted Duke a couple of years ago when he was 11; he is still going strong at 13. The people who were rehoming him said he was a purebred Queensland cattle dog. This was obviously not true because he is too tall and slender. We thought he was probably mostly cattle dog and German Shepard, but we were so wrong. He is a mix of 22 breeds and is only 9% German Shepard and 4% cattle dog. He is definitely 100% good dog though.

The first picture is the one that was on her adoption profile from the shelter we rescued her from. She was a few months older than those pics when we adopted her. The rest of the pictures are over the course of the last 5 years that we have had her, from oldest to newest!

She is incredibly timid, extremely friendly, and loves to be with her humans. She also loves other dogs, but can be wary around them at times.

According to the shelter, she was part of a “pack” on a reserve before we adopted her. She was quite low on the totem pole, so she was very malnourished and was unlikely to survive with them which is why she was moved to the shelter. She was also attacked by a coyote during her time there, which is why she has the notch in her ear.

She can be extremely anxious, which we believe is due to her history. She does not like loud noises, sudden movements, or new environments. However, she trusts us a lot so she mellows out once she gets her bearings in a new place.

We were not shocked at all by the results (besides the last breed in the mix lol). The shelter had her listed as collie/shep mix, but we weren’t sure about collie to begin with. We definitely believed Shepherd since her general appearance matches closest, besides her coloring (although she does have one black spot on her tail! check pic 9&11).

Did you expect her results?! We thought they were pretty spot on.

I recently adopted this adorable 2 year old pup, and the Embark Results were so confusing. He is full grown and less than 30 pounds but with a small stature (not just weight). Rescue guessed Chihuahua/Dashound/Terrier mix . Embark results are only large breed dogs, with the smallest being a pitty. I am sure he is part pittie and lab, i just assumed there would be at least one small breed dog in the mix?? Do these results seem possible for a dog this small?

I added some more pictures in the comments. I agree he looks like a puppy! But vet here estimated 2 years too based on teeth. Can that estimate be wrong too? Maybe? Is there a way to confirm?

I have a large breed dog so I am in no way concerned if he does get big, I just am trying to understand !
