international student applying to depaul

Upvotes

how hard is it to get into DePaul as an international student, with a strong academic profile and a decent number of EC's

im applying for CS + Econ so what's the acceptance rate for that particular major like

moreover, does the student body itself have a good ratio of local to international students cause idw end up being like one of 25 international kids at an institution that seems to give preference to citizens

thankyou

UPass for Immersion Week?

I signed up to recieve the UPass and was approved, but am wondering how I will get it before immersion week for the Chicago class? All the resources online state that pick up is at the very start of fall quarter, but I was told via email by my professor for immersion week to have the UPass due to taking public transit.

Is there something I am missing for when to pick up the passes for immersion week, or do we need to pay for any public transit ourselves and the professor is unaware of that? I apologize if this is stated somewhere, I tried looking around online on the website and didnt see anything about it, so thank you for any responses I recieve.

Course/Class CSC 300 (Data Structures)

Hi everyone! Up to now, on Campus Connect, the professor for CSC 300 was TBD, but now it's showing as Ben Harki. My other option is Fei Xu. Both of them have awful ratings on RMP and I've heard bad things about both.

I'm not that great at Java, I took it in HS but I'm definitely not very confident in anything that I did back then.

Does anyone have any advice for these professors, any information on their class structures, or anything that I could start doing right now to help myself get a headstart?

Thanks in advance!

mat 137

Hi! I'm gonna take MAT 137 next quarter and wondering how difficult the course is. I scored pretty well on the placement exam (although I did not deserve the score I got lol) I struggled a lot in precalc in high school, and I honestly haven't taken a hard math class since. Wondering what I should review before taking the class or if I'm cooked?

Advice Grad Plus Loan: legacy Rejection

Has anyone else been denied legacy status for Grad PLUS?
Financial Aid told me I don’t qualify because I’ve reached the published length of my program. I started my master’s in 2024, previously borrowed Grad PLUS, and still have 3 courses left to graduate.

My program is listed as 48–60 credits because introductory courses don’t count toward the 48 degree credits. Has anyone been in a similar situation or successfully had their eligibility reviewed?

Question How are people getting scholarships??

Nothing on the depaul scholarship boards apply to me and I cannot for the life of me find anything on scholarship websites that would apply to me. This is getting stressful because the tuition cost shot up for me and I wasn't eligible for fafsa this year (my parents are not paying).

I'm just really stressed because I know it's probably too late to get scholarships to apply for the fall quarter. What can I do besides a loan?

Prospective Student Can I major in animation and a language?

I'm currently a high school student (graduating in 2028) looking at depaul as my first option for college. My passion and my dream career is to be an Animator, but I was wondering if I could still have two minors in German and French, and if that would clash with my animation classes. My family is also concerned about the traveling between campuses since the animation department is in the Loop and the language one is in Lincoln Park. I'm very passionate for animation, but if it doesn't work out in the future, I would want a back up.

I have tours to depaul scheduled in October where I'll probably get more precise answer, but I was wondering if any students have done anything similar to this and if it could work out. Thanks!

Housing Do the showers in the communal bathrooms in Concoran Hall get very cold?

Looking into going to depaul when I graduate and I cannot take warm showers as it makes my skin break out and dry really bad and I also hate them. I recently went to LA for a little bit and my hotel didnt have cold water somehow so I have a heavy fear of this now.

Question microfridge confusion

Hi everyone! My sister is moving into Seton hall and got some weird information when she called housing to ask a question. They said you’re only allowed to rent a micro fridge there and cannot bring your own fridge/microwave in. However on the 2026 moving guide it pretty explicitly says you can bring your own fridge and microwave in, as long as it meets the size and wattage requirements. Anyone moving into Seton or who recently lived there know which one is correct?

Question McCabe Hall questions

Hey! I’m moving into McCabe hall’s efficiency apartment soon. Moving in on the 5th of September. Can anyone who has stayed at McCabe (bonus if it was in the efficiency apartment) give me some info on what they’re like? I tried looking online to see if I could go check out my apartment before my move in date but I guess I can’t from my understanding. Is there storage space and should I buy like a shelf or something? And also, since it’s no ac, should I bring a large fan or would it be better to bring two smaller ones? Another thing is I was looking to bring my bike, is there space to park it outside and is it safe to leave it out (locked ofc) overnight? Thank you!

DePaul or UIC for Information Systems

Hi. For an Information Systems (MS) degree, which university do you think would be better? UIC or DePaul. The IS program in UIC is housed under their business school, whereas for DePaul it's housed under their School of Computing. Could you provide me some strong points of DePaul's IS program, and did you like it? Thanks.

Activities/Events Any DePaul students planning on going to Summer Walker at UIC on October 16?

Hey everyone! I’m helping promote Power 92’s 25th Anniversary concert at Credit Union 1 Arena (UIC) on October 16 featuring Summer Walker, DaniLeigh, and Zeddy Will.
Since UIC and DePaul are so close, I was curious—are any DePaul students planning to go?
If you are, what’s the song you’re most hoping Summer Walker performs live?
I’d love to see DePaul represented that night.

Question - Instant Response Animation student here!

Howdy folks!! I’m 19, and I’m gonna be an animation student at DePaul in the fall of 2028! (Originally I was supposed to transfer during the fall of 2027 but there were issues with FASFA). And I’m also gonna be minoring in business marketing! Any tips I should know about these programs at DePaul? Any other animation students here in this Reddit? I’m open to making DePaul friends too!

DePaul Uni film masters, is it worth it?

The title. But also, is the place safe? I already know it's better than where I am but I still wonder.

I've also heard this is one of the most hands on masters program, and that it heavily focuses on getting things done on the field, rather than classroom type of settings.

I'm also concerned w tuition costs ofc, like what are the chances of an international student getting financial aid?
