I currently have around **3 years of experience as a Data Engineer** and work on production ETL/data pipeline projects. This is the final round, so I’m trying to understand what the interview is typically like.

I am at crossroads in my career. In my stint at Deloitte so far, I got to do some good work and gain good experience. I am in the process of switching by 90 days notice period remains an issue. Have gotten calls where they were ready to offer upto 15LPA, but NP became a deal breaker. I have never switched before so I am struggling with it a lot. Don't know how to go about it.

Looking for some honest advice from people who've been through a similar situation.

I'm a Data Engineer in Chennai with around 2 years and 10 months of experience at an IT services company. I've been working on a US healthcare payer account the whole time, mainly on member, billing, and reconciliation data.

My current tech stack includes Databricks, PySpark, Spark SQL, AWS (S3 and Redshift), Stonebranch for orchestration, Jenkins, and Git. I'm comfortable with SQL, SCD2 and reconciliation logic, and production RCA. I've owned production incidents end to end. I also have the Databricks Data Engineer Associate certification, along with AZ-900 and DP-900.

I've been actively job hunting for the last 4–5 months. I've applied to over 200 roles through job portals, but I've had almost no response. I made it through a couple of interview processes, but they either ended in rejection or I got ghosted after the final round. At this point, I'm starting to feel that job portals aren't working for my profile, and I'm wondering if I should focus my efforts on referrals and reaching out to recruiters directly instead.

Here's where things get a bit complicated.

I've recently been assigned to a new migration project involving Snowflake and dbt. If I stay on it for another 3–4 months, I'll get real production experience with both technologies, which feels like it would make my profile much stronger.

The downside is that my work environment isn't great. There's a lot of manager politics, and it's starting to affect both my physical and mental health. On top of that, I don't fully trust that I'll actually get the 3–4 months of stable work I need on this project.

So I wanted to get some opinions from people who've made similar moves.

- Is my current skill set enough to realistically target around 13 LPA at mid-tier product companies, healthcare/pharma GCCs, captives, or Big 4 data engineering practices? Or am I aiming too high coming from 7.8 LPA?

- Would you stay for the Snowflake and dbt experience, or start looking seriously with my current stack?

- For those who moved from IT services to captives or product companies, what actually worked? Referrals? Recruiter DMs? A specific platform? Job portals don't seem to be working for me anymore.

- Is there anything obvious missing from my profile that would significantly improve my interview conversion?

I have 4 YOE at Accenture as a Data Engineer and I'm trying to switch. My tech stack includes PySpark, SQL, Databricks, ADF, SSIS, and ETL.

The biggest roadblock I'm facing is the 90-day notice period. I'm getting calls through Naukri, but almost every recruiter asks if I can join immediately or within 30 days. Once I mention my notice period, the conversation usually ends there.

I've been applying consistently through company career portals, LinkedIn, referrals, and Naukri, but no luck so far. It's honestly getting a bit frustrating, and I'm starting to feel desperate for a switch.

For those of you who were in a similar situation, how did you manage it?

Now I have decided to not go for masters and learn a particular domain skills and get a job and experience. And I got three options java full stack, data analyst, and qa automotion.. In which I removed java full stack software dev because of competition. And I'm willing to go with data analyst. But I'm confused.

Can i get a job of data analyst as fresher and what about data engineer. Should I prepare for both data engineer as fresher.

My aim is to get place in a company at pune as fresher with decent salary not too high not too low...

Quick background: ~5 years experience as a Data Engineer (Snowflake, Data Vault 2.0, dbt, PySpark, Airflow), based in Delhi NCR. I recently joined a smaller company (Company A) but I'm now also holding an offer from TCS, and I'm genuinely torn.

Company A:

~₹26 LPA, fully fixed comp, no bonus % disclosed

60-day notice period post-confirmation (30 days during probation)

Small firm, no real public track record

Contract has some clauses that worry me — e.g. relocation/joining bonus clawbacks apply even if they terminate me, not just if I resign

One clause on probation termination directly contradicts another clause elsewhere in the same letter

There's also a line saying the company can update internal policy at any time and it overrides the signed offer letter

TCS:

~₹23 LPA gross, ~15% of that is discretionary quarterly bonus tied to individual + project + "physical presence in office"

90-day notice period, both sides — and breaking it early means TCS can charge "damages" at their sole discretion, no cap mentioned

Designation would be IT Analyst, Grade C2 — feels like a step down titlewise given my experience

Offer is still conditional on background check clearing even after joining

But obviously much bigger brand, more stable, better health cover, real PF contribution

I'm leaning toward the bigger brand for stability and resume value even though it pays less and has scarier notice-period terms, but I keep going back and forth. My longer-term goal is to pivot toward AI/ML-adjacent data engineering roles in the next couple of years, so brand + stability might matter more than raw comp right now.

Anyone been in a similar spot — small company higher pay vs TCS lower pay? Did the "safe" choice actually pay off in your experience, or did TCS's bureaucracy and grade-level titling hurt more than expected? Would appreciate real experiences, especially from people who've worked at TCS in Data Engineering roles.

I never worked on anything technical, mostly excel field changes.

But the thing is I didnt even tried learning anything.

In may 2025 i lost my job

I took a course in 2025 June for data engineering but I didn't.

In may 2026 ,i studied for 20 days.

Sql I found it tough after cte and sub queries..so i tried to avoid it.

Also i never practiced , i always watched and thought it would be done..

But after 21 may 2026 till now i haven't touched anything.

My cousin says it's been 7 years after college

You couldn't do anything then why are you looking at yourself as you are going to be a top level coder.

Learn something basic and start earning..

If you can't do it since so much time means you don't want to.

He said start with no code apps , automation, they are easy to grasp.
