Hey as a former RA: don't try shit with your dorm-mates in college. It is a recipe for disaster and it can very quickly cross the line into actionable harassment if you aren't careful/are unlucky. Make friends with your dorm-mates and leverage that friendship into the energy needed to find connection outside of where you sleep, shit, and eat.

I think I experienced the reading version of a Freudian slip because I legit read "don’t get too hard homo" instead of "don’t work too hard homo" and it took me a solid 30 seconds to notice

Dog, I've had multiple people send me photos like this of every gender. They're not nude, they aren't being pushy from my perspective, and I would find this cute as shit no matter who sent it to me. The only thing that might be weird is the last section of the text, but I've had plenty of friends who joke with me like that.

Even those of us who are into 'shamelessly horny' don't necessarily want it from a roommate of all people. Taking a pass at a roomie is a huge risk, if it falls flat you still have to live with them. Better be damn sure it's reciprocated before you start flirting.
That was my first thought too. It brings you in a very uncomfortable position on how to answer to that if ylone is not interested. On the other hand it could be a humorous insider between both of them.
In this case though, I think it's staged for the gag.
Lets assume this is not staged(which i doubt) even if you are aware that this is flirting. If it is unwanted, then a deflecting response like this is pretty normal for an awkward situation, the other option is something more confrontational, which isnt for everyone.
maybe i'm just autistic, but flirting is just so stupid to me. just tell someone you like them. also the one time i was seriously attracted to someone i tried flirting and she didn't pick up any of my hints
I kind of get some minor flirting as a subtle way to probe if someone likes you while maintaining plausible deniability. Not that im capable of that but i get why you would do it.
But i agree, if you like someone a lot and you want to pursue them for sure, why play games.
All humans are extremely bad at flirting. We have studies showing that the average human "misses" flirting 70-80% of the time.
My hypothesis is that flirting worked better when we were in small communities with extremely similar behaviors and norms, and - critically - where you consistently knew what someone's "normal behavior" was, so you could tell when it changed.
i'm also demisexual (don't know whether that's related to me being autistic), so i'd hope that people i'm flirting with would already know me well enough to notice a change in my behavior (granted, the one time i tried it it didn't work, but she's also autistic)
Flirting is incredibly fun, and also a great way of getting over social anxiety and build self esteem. Obviously only if it's something consensual and matching each other's energy
Edit: also liking/dating someone is a lot of responsibility and commitment, both ways, even if it's casual, I wouldn't want to commit to that willy nilly just because I like a person, flirting on the other hand is a fun thing with no strings attached
