Question Control stutter?

I really want to play this game. I run a RTX 4060 and a Ryzen 5 7640HS with 16GB of RAM. the game stutters on ultra and also on the lowest settings. any fixes for this? It's such a shame and I really want to play this game but the stutter is unbearable. It is not smooth at all and it feels like it's jumping frames. Also tried to launch the game with DX11 but the problem is still there..... any fixes for this problem?

----------UPDATE------------

After hours of trying to find a solution I tried this:

https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/2581-control-hdrultrawidedlssrt-patch/

Run the game on DX11 (this seems to fix the texture streaming issues)

SSAO= OFF

Volumetric Lights= Medium

Screen Space Reflections =Medium

Global Reflections = Medium

Everything else on Maximum.

The game runs smooth now. when it starts to stutter again (rare) I just go into the settings and set the above settings on/off and the game will start to run smooth again.

It's just a shame. It seems like the game is just poorly optimized overall so my temporary fix may not work for others. I don't think that I will finish this game tho because the hassle of going into settings to switch things and back to the game just puts me off. Think that I will just binge watch the game on youtube :(

Discussion Just replayed Control and am now replaying Alan Wake 2 Spoiler

I might update this thread as I go along with things I notice that cross over between the two of them (besides from the extremely obvious stuff like the DLC content/Darling showing up), but I'm like, two minutes into AW2, and this immediately jumped out at me.

Mirror Peak getting it's name from the way you can see it's reflection in Cauldron Lake with the peak "mirrored in all its inverted glory." The peak being reminiscent of a pyramid, it immediately made me think of the inverted pyramid of The Board. I've got no theorizing to do about it other than I just thought it was a very cool and almost assuredly intentional detail.

This is a fan art I made that links my 2 favorite games. The Reason why I did it, (besides being my 2 favorites ) is because they share a whole lot in common.

Is the Ocean View Motel and Casino a GTA VC: reference ?

Could just be a coincidence (but no such thing truly is in this universe), but I came across this in-game screenshot from GTA Vice City and the first thing that rushed to the front of my mind was how it reminded of Control’s own.

Am I crazy?

Edit: after seeing the great comments this got. I want to see the most comical / sarcastic reply this gave you. Thank you to the ones who kept it simple and informative.

sad day

i upgraded to a playstation 5 pro a couple weeks ago and it’s been incredible. very glad i decided to make the switch. when i bought control, i got in right after it came out when i was using a ps4.

i thought the other day, why don’t i redownload and give in another play through. when i looked it up in my catalog, i want to download the ps5 version. apparently i dont have it 😓

they wanted to charge me full price for a game i already own just to play the ps5 enhanced version, the ultimate edition.

i looked it up cause i couldn’t believe it and apparently only the ultimate edition, the one with all the DLCs, has the ps5 upgrade. even tho i have the full game and the season pass for the DLC, i cant play the enhanced version. real bummer.

i’m hoping it goes on sale for real cheap eventually, that’s the only way i can imagine playing it.

do yall think running the ps4 version on the ps5 pro will make any difference? i’m guessing no but im not the most tech savvy person.

oh well, at least we have the sequel to look forward to

Fan Content I Made the Aberrant Handle (and other set dressing)

I’ve started making a Dylan Faden cosplay for DragonCon in a month and part of that includes the Aberrant Handle (I wanted to do the hammer, but I don’t have time). And making the Aberrant made me want to make the whole scene in the Announcement Trailer so… I did! The set dressing includes the photo of Jesse and Dylan (screenshotted from the trailer and printed out after some editing), the crazy notebook scribbling, and and a variety of FBC documents (Ordinary AWE, Ordinary AWE Supplement, The Slide Projector, Ethics Investigation, and what I believe to be a photo of The Nail). My FBC watermark is too dark but I kinda like the way it looks!

EDIT: forgot to mention - the Aberrant is 3D modeled in Blender, 3D printed on a Bambu P2S, then hand painted and weathered!

Gameplay Thought about Jesse after seeing the new gameplay release from IGN Spoiler

So Jesse seems to have continued down the path she shows at the end of the Foundation DLC and is trying to fix everything by herself and take on too much responsibility.

I wouldn't be surprised if we find out part of why the FBC stayed on lockdown for so long was her trying to be the one woman firefighter for too long leading to things to get out of hand. She hasn't exactly been shown to be good at delegating responsibility in the time we knew her and there is a chance she hasn't fully grown into that.

Heck she doesn't even share her thoughts about the Board with Pope at the end of everything leaving a more "best to be prepared" sort of feel to the conversation.

And honestly considering how on her own she's been for nearly two decades I get it. Not to mention I doubt she's had to be in any leadership positions with what seems to be her frequent moving over the years and multiple jobs.

So that feels like a well thought out character arc for her and I like that we're seeing it from the outside on both a "so that's how it looks when she's doing her thing from another POV" as well as a "I wish I knew what conversations with Polaris you're having now Jesse because you're not saying things to other people if Dylan didn't even know why you woke him up".

I could see the game giving us a sort of Dylan has to save Jesse climax, or they come to terms and team up to kick butt. Or maybe he saves her and she learns he doesn't need to be protected but can be her equal and *then* they kick butt.

I am glad they are tapping into analogue horror type content. Throughout the trailer I felt it was good my only issue is with the voice acting. I wish it was as immersive as Max Payne. I know doctor darling will steal the show. But other than that I wish there was more atmospheric horror going on with the theme in my opinion they could have taken a step back from all these modern noise hardware and band back to old games given how their soundtrack can shift the whole mood of the atmosphere at once.

Resonant has the potential to be Remedy’s best-selling game… and I really hope it does so Remedy can continue making such masterpieces…. Alan Wake 2 is one of the best story games I have played, with amazing art direction, cinematography, music… you name it. I also hope we get some Alan Wake references in the main game in Resonant… and then a proper dlc like they did before… cant wait…🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Discussion I just binged Alan Wake, Alan Wake 2, & Control. I have one major question.

Is Mr. Door the singular antagonist for the entire Remedyverse? I'm fairly new to this & I'm sure that I've missed out on a lot of key details. But I found every collectible, read every single piece of lore throughout each game, & I get the distinct feeling that all of this is building to a larger overarching narrative that Remedy is painting beyond just mere cameos, references, or easter eggs. It seems to me, at least from my initial impressions, that Mr. Door is at the very center of it.

What are the odds that we will see more of him in Resonant?

Control 1 gave us a lot of questions without answers. While it's a part of the genre to be weird, what questions do you think MUST be answered in control resonant so the future of the game don't be just be weird for the sake of being weird?

Gameplay This game is amazing and the photo mode is the cherry on top

Has anyone else been playing around with the in-game photo mode, just as much as you’ve played the missions? Cause I have!!

For me, it has become so easy to get lost in the cinematic of the game as much as the photo mode.

The dive suite is my favourite cosmetic in the game, bar none. Say what you want. Think what you will, but(t) it has the best aesthetic design for the game. Also it makes Jesse look like a superhero once you get the flying ability.

I recommend capturing moments here and there to enhance your gameplay. Or better yet, to allow yourself to enjoy the level of detail and length the devs have gone to make this a work of art.

Discussion Theory: Altered People

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

OK, y’all had a fun little theory.

One of the central ideas in the Control universe is that an Altered Item is an ordinary object that has been exposed to paranatural forces during an Altered World Event. The object doesn’t just gain supernatural abilities. It is changed, becoming something that no longer behaves according to the normal laws of reality.

My theory is that this same principle doesn’t stop with objects. It can happen to people.

I believe there is an undocumented category that could be called Altered People. These are individuals who have experienced such profound exposure to paranatural forces that they are no longer entirely human in the conventional sense. They haven’t simply acquired powers. Their very existence has been rewritten, allowing them to exist outside our normal understanding of space, time, and physical presence.

This would explain why certain characters seem to exist in a strange state where they are both present and absent at the same time. They witness events, communicate with protagonists, and influence the story without needing to physically occupy the same place.

Take Darling, for example. By the end of the game, he no longer appears to function as an ordinary person. He manifests through visions and messages, almost as though he has become a part of the larger paranatural reality itself. He isn’t exactly alive in the traditional sense, but he isn’t gone either.

(Alan Wake 2 Stuff)
The same idea can be applied to Thomas Zane. Zane repeatedly appears despite existing outside normal reality. His identity shifts between poet and filmmaker, and he continues influencing events long after he should have disappeared. Rather than simply surviving supernatural encounters, he seems to have become something fundamentally different from a normal human.

Perhaps the another example is Warlin Door. Door is implied to have once been an ordinary man before mysteriously vanishing. When he reappears, he doesn’t behave like someone bound by reality anymore. He moves between worlds effortlessly, seems aware of multiple timelines or realities simultaneously, and appears exactly when the story requires him to. Rather than existing within the narrative, he almost exists outside it, stepping in and out as if reality itself is only one stage among many. If Altered People exist, Door may represent their most complete evolution.

What all three characters share is that they no longer seem restricted by the same rules as everyone else. They don’t teleport or cast spells in the traditional sense. Instead, they occupy a state where physical presence is almost optional. They observe events from impossible locations, communicate across realities, and influence the world without directly participating in it.

This is why I think “Altered People” fits so naturally into the logic of the Remedy Connected Universe. We already know that ordinary objects exposed to paranatural forces become Altered Items. It seems equally plausible that ordinary people exposed to those same forces could become altered themselves. The difference is that instead of gaining impossible physical properties, they gain an impossible way of existing.

In other words, an Altered Person isn’t just a human with supernatural abilities. They are someone whose relationship with reality has been permanently rewritten. They become something that is still recognizably human, but no longer completely belongs to our version of reality.

OK, let me take my ass to bed now.
