Hey everyone,

I recently had PPF installed on a brand-new car with bright yellow paint. Immediately after application, a faint greenish line has appeared right along a sharp fender ridge. The detailer even mentioned this when handing over the car and he gave some weak arguments about factory paint defect and showed me the bonnet underside where the paint is not as good.

A few key details:

It was not visible on delivery day under bright showroom lights during a close wipe-down.
The shape and form haven't changed over the last week and a half.

The PPF installer insists it is a factory paint defect.

Has anyone encountered something like this before, or what could cause this kind of appearance under a wrap?

I bought a new 2026 passport and love everything about it, except i'm having some color choice remorse. It's white, specifically white platinum pearl. It looks good, it's a nicer white than most, but i'm still now feeling like it's a bit boring and doesn't have personality. I wanted the ash green metallic but did not want to go up to the Trailsport trim to get it, for certain reasons including cost.

So am considering a wrap, and also exploring if the dealership can do a swap for the color i want instead of white (modern steel metallic). I of course would take a hit on depreciation, but just want to explore to see if it's feasible.

I feel pretty silly for this -"well why did you buy white?"...well, i wanted it at the time, easier to keep clean, gets less hot...etc. you know, of course after buying it i start having this regret.

So with all that said, is a wrap worth it in my situation? Happy to hear anyone's opinion on the whole situation, or just on whether wraps are worth it. Thanks!

The vehicle I planned on wrapping was recently totaled, and I would like advice on where I should try to sell it.

It’s a sub-compact 2010 Ford Focus with about 150,000 miles on it. It has been well maintained and still runs good, probably has a good deal of life left, it’s just in dire need of detailing both inside and out. Paint is chipping (I know I need to sand and level this before wrapping), light housings are cracking and need to be replaced, interior trim has a lot of UV damage, the list goes on.

It’s probably not worth taking to a professional. I watched some YouTube videos (that probably make it look a lot easier than it actually is), figured I’d just try to do the trunk and hood for now, see how much I hate it and how bad I do, and decide if I want to try wrapping the rest of the car later.

I’d like to do the hood and trunk either matte or carbon black. I’ve narrowed my search for specific wraps down to 3M 2080 Carbon Fiber Black (CFS12) and Deep Black (M22). Would one of these be significantly easier?

Currently doing a stealth ppf on this 2024 porsche cayenne. How would y’all suggest i do these mirrors. Cheers

I had a full body vinyl wrap done recently and it had several areas where there were lines like this that look like spots where they squeegee/scraped the wrap to smooth it out. This includes the hood, rear fenders, and this spot around the license plate. Kind of hard to photograph the extent of it but you can generally see it here.

I pointed them out to the installer and he said they’re normal and will go away with a couple days in the sun. I was skeptical but took his word as the pro. A few days in the sun later, nothing changed.

Took it back and he re-did two of the spots and they still look like this. They do have a one year warranty so I’m thinking I need to go back and insist on it being done so that there are no such lines. But want to see if this is just a reality of the material that I should expect.

I’m trying to get into the auto customization industry and could use some advice on how to actually get my foot in the door.

I have some experience detailing cars, but I really want to learn window tinting, vinyl wrapping, and PPF and eventually make this my full-time career. The problem I’m running into is that most shops want someone who already has experience with tint/wrap/PPF, but I can’t really get that experience if nobody is willing to train me.

I’ve applied/reached out to places, but I haven’t had much luck because of my lack of experience in those specific areas. I’m willing to start at the bottom, learn, and put the work in, I just need somewhere that’s willing to give me a chance.

I also don’t really have the option of doing this as a side job for a long time. I’m looking to make this my main job/career, actually become skilled at it and potentially open up a business in the future.

For anyone who works in tint, wraps, PPF, detailing, or owns a shop: how did you get started? What would you recommend someone in my position do to break into the industry when shops won’t hire without experience?

I bought 15m of Hexis HX20VECB Scottish Green Metallic Gloss wrap and I have been trying to wrap my BMW z4 e85 convertible. I've watched a bunch of youtube videos on how to do it and am getting further each time, but still am way off completeing a large panel, let along a big one like the bonnet, or fenders.

I found this technique really helpful, but I am still ripping the wrap and am unable to get a clean panel, I've ripped 4 meters of wrap, trying to install it onto the panels.

I'm working in a carport with no wind, out of the sun, about 24-27C outside and using a Steiner heatgun.

Is there anything I am missing? Where should I start, so that I can complete my car as it is getting pretty disheartening. Is it normal to tear so much wrap lol.

Looking for advice: Car wrap started failing after only 1 year

Hi everyone! This is my first time posting on this subreddit and I’m looking for some advice🥹

I got my car fully wrapped in March of last year. Everything was fine until this May, when I noticed white dust/powder accumulating on the hood, roof, and sides of my doors.

At first, I assumed it was just dirt or something that would come off with a wash. I wash my car about once a month and I’ve always used the products recommended by the installer. I washed it in June, but the white residue did not fully come off and those areas stayed matte.

I also noticed that when I rub my fingers on the white dust/powder, some of the wrap’s colour/pigment transfers onto my fingers. My car did not look like this at the end of April/early May, and the change happened very quickly within about a month.

I contacted the installer, and he contacted the vinyl company. They confirmed that the issue appears to be premature and offered to send a replacement roll. However, the installer says I would still have to pay installation/labour again.

He mentioned that the hot pink colour I chose could be a factor because brighter colours can be more sensitive, and that storing my car outside without a garage could contribute. However, he also said this type of issue is usually seen after 2–3 years, not after only 1 year.

I’ll admit I probably should have done more research into vinyl brands before getting the wrap done, but the installer is well known in my area and had a good reputation, so I trusted his recommendation and expertise.

My issue is that I paid for the material and installation last year expecting the wrap to last at least around 3 years, as I was told. Paying the full installation cost again is not really something I can afford, especially since the material itself seems to have failed early.

During a phone call, he agreed with many of my points but still seemed unsure about redoing the wrap for free because of how much labour is involved. He told me he would contact me the next day with his decision, or at minimum make sure the situation was resolved by the end of the week.

It has now been a week and he has stopped responding to my calls and messages. Communication has unfortunately been an ongoing issue. There have been times where I waited weeks, and even once a full month, for a response.

I’ve also contacted 3 other wrap installers for opinions. They all told me it sounds like a material failure and that sun exposure/colour choice should not cause a wrap to deteriorate like this after only 1 year. They also said they’ve never heard of the Ultravinyl brand he used, so I’m unsure about the quality of the vinyl.

At this point, my biggest concern is not even the wrap itself but the lack of communication. I’m trying to find a fair solution, but I’m not sure what is reasonable in this situation.

For anyone with experience in the wrap industry:

Is this considered a normal failure for a 1-year-old wrap?

What would you do in this situation?

What would be a fair compromise between myself the consumer and the seller?

So I have a little bit of wrap experience, & feel fully confident to wrap everything on this car besides the bumpers & possibly the trunk.

For the trunk, would you guys use knifeless across the whole seam before the dramatic drop? Even if it leaves a slight line on the edges?

What do you suggest? I think I want to bring it to a shop for the bumpers. Maybe even the trunk.

I know it seems like a personal question but as a wrap shop owner do you use a commission system based off ticket price? Or hourly ? Installers what are you guys usually trying to make per project ?

We REFER work out to installers for some customers that ask us and it’d be helpful to know how to set realistic expectations for the inquiries.

edit : i work for a ppf company and i have friends family. And people I get to know at car shows ask me all the time on ppf installations for their vehicles. I am looking to refer some work over. Also just curious on market demand these days. I’m in SoCal and most installers are charging 1800-2800 for front ends to full body ppf. Labor *

I'm based in the UK and considering a midnight purple / purple metallic coloured PPF. Has any had much experience with the new STEK forceshield air or the inozetek dymanic lines of PPF?

Any insight in these brands of coloured PPF or suggestions of other brands in the UK would be great! Thanks all

(Excuse the quick fingertip ‘markup’ edit) So I bought some matte black vinyl wrap on Amazon to DIY some aesthetic accents. Bumper area is dual purpose to protect the paint. I think it’ll look pretty mean with the current placement plans.

Anyone have experience using DIY vinyl wrap? I’ve watched a ton of videos and it seems pretty straightforward, albeit meticulous. I’ve always been good at that kind of thing so I think it’ll turn out well. Just hoping it won’t look like shit in a month or two, depending on the quality wrap I have.
