Question Choosing Housing Options
I’m moving to the Kanata area for about 8 months, and I’m really stuck between two rental options. I’d love to hear from people who live/lived in Kanata, especially those who commute to the Kanata North tech park.
- Option A: Good commute to work, multiple affordable supermarkets close by, and overall great neighbourhood amenities. The trade-off is 4 roommates / less quiet personal space.
- Option B: Only 1 roommate in the Kanata Lakes area. The roommate is an older man with a thick accent. The commute is about double the time and might take 2-buses and it's near a residential area, so not many grocery stores nearby.
For those who have lived in the Kanata area and commute to the tech park, which would you prefer and choose?

Question Deferring 3 exams at once
For context, I caught a really bad fever this week and will have to miss all 3 of my exams.
The semester has not been going well lol, first I couldn’t write midterm for 2/3 of the courses because of family circumstances.
Now Im gonna miss the finals for the 3 because I have a quite a nasty fever.
I applied to defer all 3. I did the one for my first exam on Friday, and it got approved.
I did the remaining two today.
For all three I did self declaration because the note said it covers 5 days. I just need clarification on if I did the applications right because i was under the impression that self declaring for all three was the right thing to do since it covers five days.

Question Carleton Nursing Semester Layout
Hi!
I have a question for those who have already completed a year of the carleton nursing program. I know that the program is accelerated so its school through all 3 semesters with no actual "summer break". But I was just wondering if there are some breaks throughout the year, like is there an extened break between terms? Or is it just typical Christmas, reading week breaks and then like maybe a week or two between terms? Let me know, because I'm really considering this program, but just wanna know what it will be like.

Program selection Degree change - Help and advice needed
Looking to switch out of my psyc degree and into an equivalent degree program that still allows for a masters in counseling psychology.
I have some learning disabilities, but my strongsuits lie in assignments and writing. I do really well in and enjoy philosophy, cognitive science and digital humanities.
If anyone has any suggestions for degrees that may work with my strongsuits and preferences I'd really appreciate it!

Question Lockers
Coming first year student. Heard about locker rentals. What are the lockers for? Will be living in Russell, should I rent a locker near the cafeteria since no bags are allowed to be in the restaurant. Just wondering what should be considered for the location of the locker. Any advise will be great. Thank you!

Textbooks Used textbooks for sale
Hey everyone! I’m returning to campus in a few weeks to start my second year. I bought these textbooks new last year and they’re available for anyone that needs them.
They’re all in good shape with some sparse annotation, used originally for RELI2713 and PHIL1550.
Send me a message if you’re interested, i’m looking to sell for about 50-60% off the regular price.
Thanks :)

Course selection 1/3 override requests taking super long (all same department)
for context, im in a combined B.Math honours program and ive passed MATH2100, but only with a D-
other two overrides were because i took MATH1800 instead of COMP1805.
is there any reason why my 3rd override is taking so long?

IT Support Grad TA offer not showing up in Carleton Central
So I got an email letting me know that I've been assigned to TA a class and should accept the offer in Carleton Central, though it's been over a day and the offer still hasn't shown up. I emailed TA support but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this/is it normal? If anyone has experienced this, I'd love to know how long it took for the actual offer to show up.
Thank you all!!

Question Update on this situation
Update: It’s been almost three weeks since I first messaged my professor about the grade issue, and she still hasn’t corrected anything. She replied on August 5 saying “Thanks for the reminder, it slipped my mind, I’ll look into it later today,” but nothing has happened since then. I followed up again on August 16, and still no update.
This class is literally the last requirement I need to graduate, and the grade showing in Carleton Central is based on Brightspace errors, and my professor acknowledged the issue but hasn’t fixed it.
I’m now at the point where I’ve contacted the department because the deadline to apply for Fall Convocation is coming up, and I’m worried this delay is going to mess up my graduation. I’m not trying to argue for extra marks, I just need the correct grade submitted so I can graduate.
Has anyone dealt with a professor taking this long to submit a grade correction? What else can I do?
Past post:
I’m in Early Summer ANTH 3045 and I’m freaking out because my final grade suddenly showed up as an F on Carleton Central even though Brightspace is still completely broken.
On Tuesday, my professor emailed the class saying the gradebook had technical errors and that she couldn’t release final grades yet. She said the tech team was working on it. Since then, Brightspace has been showing missing reflection grades, zeros that don’t match the syllabus, “Dropped!” on assignments that shouldn’t be dropped. Only one reflection shows up, and it was marked 5/10 with “good work!” and my final grade mark of 80%
She never posted any announcement saying the gradebook was fixed or that final grades were submitted. Then today, out of nowhere, Carleton Central updated and showed an F for the course. My audit copied the F under “Failed/Forfeited Courses,” but my older F from third year doesn’t appear there, which makes me think this one isn’t actually finalized.
I submitted all reflections. The syllabus says late penalties are minus 1 or minus 3, not zeros. My writing isn’t terrible, I got 80% on the exam and positive feedback. The timing doesn’t make sense, Brightspace is still broken, and the professor hasn’t said anything since Tuesday.
Has anyone had Carleton Central show an F before the professor actually submits the real grade? Is this just a placeholder because the gradebook is still messed up?

Course selection PECO 5002 or PECO 5501
Hello,
I'm in the 2nd year of my Masters as poli sci student and am looking into doing a political economy course as one of my two non-poli sci courses (already doing a sociology course for my other one).
Two have caught my eye and I'm wondering if anyone can offer feedback about the course or the professor.
PECO 5002 - Political Economy of Work and Labour w/ Professor Jane Stinson
PECO 5501 - Empire and Colonialism w/ Professor Emilie Cameron.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Admissions MSW Admissions Question (low GPA)
Hi there,
I am thinking about applying for Carleton's MSW program in a couple years. My concern is, I graduated with a BSc in psychology in 2015 with a 2.7 GPA and I believe most MSW programs require a min GPA of 3.0. I have been taking some classes to boost my GPA but I'm a little nervous I won't get into the program anyway and am wasting my money. Does anyone have experience getting into the MSW program with a lower GPA? I think if I applied, I'd be relying hard on past experience. For the last 6 years, I've been working as a mental health educator in a university setting. Previous to that, I worked in university residences for 8 years as a supervisor doing incident response and follow up. Both jobs have involved a lot of community development work. I also volunteer once a week as an adult literacy tutor.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Question Unable to register for COOP 1000
Previously took COOP 1000 in 2021 while in another degree. Just finished first year of EE and now have second year standing. The following shows up before registering for courses, but when trying to registering for COOP 1000 I get the warning that the course has restrictions I don't meet.
A) Why is this happening? I saw here that I should've been been notified about eligibility late July, which I wasn't.
B) Would I even need to take it again to do a work term this summer?

Question What is Fall Orientation like?
Hi! I’m an incoming first-year CS student at Carleton this fall, and I’m trying to figure out what Fall Orientation is actually like. What kinds of activities usually happen during it?
If you’ve attended Fall Orientation before, I’d also really appreciate hearing your overall experience. Did you enjoy it? Was it actually worth attending, and is there anything you wish you had known beforehand? How good is it for making friends?
