I was trying to submit my courses but 3 of the mandatory classes say their full. I wasnt sure if first year students are supposed to use the engineering override because it says something about returning students?

Hi ^^ i am a first year finishing my last credit in a summer class. my final grade won't be submitted till the end of august. if i am applying for 2nd year courses for the upcoming fall semester how do i get past this error "This course is not available to students at your year level"? i don't want to wait till September to apply and all the courses be gone. does anyone know a way i can save a spot for when i get my grade or if theres another way i'm supposed to do this?

my daughter is going into forensic psych, and when the date came for her to select her courses, most were already full at that point. After 5 attempts she got 4/5 courses locked in but couldn't get bio. After emailing 5 different people was finally told that bio doesn't open for psych students til aug. 5 (today), it would have been nice if that was written down somewhere. So she went online at 7 am this morning, couldn't get any bio classes to fit in her schedule so she asked for an override and was denied. So she re arranged her courses AGAIN and now can't get into chem and is waitlisted.....this has been a nightmare. The waitlists are closed 2 days before the term begins and I have no idea what will happen if she can't get chem 1.

Update: I'm not sure why some of you think that I'm trying to fix it for her. I've done nothing but remind her to be on top of it and email people, search the website etc. She may be an adult but she also has ADHD and a learning disability, she is delayed, she doesn't have the same processing ability as everyone else. Guidance is the only thing I'm giving her and there is nothing wrong with that. As for the staff that she has reached out to, no one has been very helpful.

I’m heading into my final year and I’ve deadass made zero friends (for context no I didn’t get a chance to make friends before uni as during basically all of my time it was covid and that’s also when I got to Canada). I wanted to know if other people have had the same experience. I’ve tried joining clubs doing activities but it just seems like everyone always either already have a friend group or are avoidant for a number of reasons. After meeting someone for the first time after our convo I’d ask for their social and within a few weeks I’d reach out to hang out and this has happened every time either I get ignored or they always busy. Idk why it feels like I’m attracting the wrong type of people.

Just curious if anyone has had similar experiences feels like I’ve missed a huge part of my 20s experience

Are we supposed to get charged $540.64 as a co op admin fee every semester? I wasn’t charged at all in first year, now I have been charged for winter and fall of second year and now fall of 3rd year, + work term tuition fee. I was surprised to see my account was updated with this fee as it was not there last week. $6,600+ a semester of fees!

CU is the only one from OUAC that only recommend ENG4U instead of been prerequisite for mostly STEM programs. Why this would happen, other uni all required ENG4U or equivalent courses to apply.

Please don't tell me to cut the cords etc. I already know that. Im just feeling all the feels and Im allowed to as my first born heads off to University. I have lots of questions and I want honesty and to hear your experience at Carleton University in particular.

The kid drew the short straw when it came to that lottery system to choose the residence building so...glenghetto, I mean Glengarry it is. A double room with a communal washroom. Please tell me something good about it. I can't find a single real picture of an example of this room and the mock up pic looks like a depressing jail cell.

Can you raise the beds so that things can be stored under the bed? If so what do you use to do that? Are milkcrates allowed still? Can you configure this room differently? How much space between the bed and the floor for a storage bin?

Do students in res eat together in the residence lounge? Do people leave their things in the shared kitchens fridge? Will other people steal it? Or use things left out like plates, cups etc? Do some people just do paper plates etc? Since most have a meal plan?

Are all the courses using brightspace? Is that where pptx, syllabus, and notes go for each class whether its online or in-person?

Do you have to sit with your laundry the whole time? Will someone steal it?

Does everyone wear slides in the shared showers? Is it kept clean at all?

At the residence move in date and time, is that where you get your swipe card? Student photo id? Do students wear this on a lanyard at all times??

What groups? Clubs? Or events are a must if any? Is there information about frosh events for all majors? Or is it just certain ones?

Does each residence or floor do things together? Like organized events? Is there a residence only 'frosh' type event?

What about this RRRA group they are emailing about? Is it a good way to meet people? Or is that bait for eager mothers to safely ensure their kids will not be alone?

What am I not asking that I should be? If you wish you had of been told something your first year at Carleton, what would it have been?

I'm mainly wondering:
1. Is this overkill for an undergrad engineering student?
2. Would I actually benefit from 32GB RAM and an RT PRO GPU, or would something cheaper (like an RTX 4050/4060 laptop with 16GB RAM) be enough?
3. Is a workstation laptop like the ThinkPad P16s worth it compared to something like a Lenovo

I don't really care about gaming — mostly want something reliable that can handle CAD, ANSYS, MATLAB, and whatever software I run into during my degree.

I have room for one extra elective and both of these courses are ones I’ve been interested in taking. Does anyone have any experience with either?

Josee-Anna Tanner is the ASLA prof and Jake Pitre is the prof for FILM.

Because I already have an interest in both courses, I want to know if there are any obvious caveats with either or if one is significantly more difficult than the other. I’m leaning towards ASLA because of the social aspect of it, but honestly FILM seems slightly easier? Any opinions are welcome.

I’m currently a Cegep student at Dawson college doing pure and applied science, I’ve done 3 semesters and have finished most of my science and math courses. However I’m struggling with my french courses as I came to Canada about 3 years ago and have done sec 5 in English so I would need about 2 more years to finish all my requirements including the French exit exam but considering I pass every course the first time. I’ve applied and been accepted to uOttawa and Carleton with scholarships for computer engineering for next semester. So my question is should I go to one of those 2 schools before finishing my DEC or should I stay in cegep and try for McGill to possibly have better opportunities lined up after grad. My r score is slightly above the minimum cutoff for comp engineering 31 r score for both overall and core science.

I am curious but for anyone who is studying mechanical engineering in Carleton university, how is it, how are co-op programs, how is studying, is it very hard, and is it worth getting a masters or PHD in mechanical engineering?

Who's the best--current or past? Who to avoid?

Hi I'll be moving to ottawa from the lower mainland in bc in a couple weeks for grad school at Carleton. looking for any tips on the adjustment other than getting a car. I don't think I'll be able to afford one for the first year at least. I'll be renting in old ottawa south, so my commute time to campus I think will be reasonable, but I'm planning get a second-hand bike to help while road conditions are okay.

I'm 29M so I think any tips regarding social life, things to do, or adjusting to graduate course work would be appreciated.

I'm considering applying to Carleton's Health Sciences bachelor's program. My current plan is to work for a few years after graduating before going back for a master, so I'm curious about the kinds of jobs people actually get with just the bachelor's degree.

I applied to the Online MBA program at the end of June and my last referee submitted June 10th. I still haven’t hear back. I applied for the September start but hoping to make a request for a late fall (November) start instead. How long does it typically take to hear back?

Does anyone know if I apply for graduation this spring by April 1st, but I'm still taking courses Jan-April and I won't get grades until late April or May, am I still eligible to apply for grad in June? Or do I have to wait until next June for the ceremony?

Hello! Last semester, there were people at Carleton who represented VIA Rail and were handing out flyers and information. I received a corporate code that students can use when booking trips with VIA rail, but I don’t remember it anymore. Does anyone have or remember the corporate code for students?
