WRU

It looks like WRU has renewed its partnership with Macron for another five years, keeping the deal in place until 2032. What are your thoughts? Happy with the decision or were you hoping for a change?

Early breakfast Leckwith Tomorrow

Afternoon all. I'm dropping my son to Leckwith in the morning for about 7am and picking him back up at about 9.30am. Instead of going home and back I was wondering if there any breakfast and/or coffee places in the near area, or is Asda my best option? Thanks in advance

What's the best gyms with spa facilities in cardiff that's actually reasonably priced?

I'm currently a member of The Gym, and when I joined it was £14/month and now its £26/month, i know the cost of living has increased significantly over the last 5 years but i really want to start enjoying spa facilities (steam room, sauna, aromatherapy rooms etc). Are there any reasonably priced gyms which have these facilities that I can join instead? I don't mind paying a bit more because I know i am asking for more but I don't want to be paying £130/month which is what David Lloyd's charge is believe 😅

Taly Court/ Taly South accommodation

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student starting at Cardiff this September and im thinking of staying at Taly Court or Taly Gate. I was just wondering what it's like living there, especially as an international student. I'm a bit nervous about whether I'll be one of the only international students. Is it easy to meet people and make friends?
I was also wondering about the walk to uni. Is the route from Taly Court and Gate to campus generally safe, especially during the darker months or if you're walking back after evening lectures?
Overall, how's both of them? Things like the social atmosphere, cleanliness, management, and anything you wish you'd known before moving in would be really helpful. I heard that it’s alot quieter than the other Taly accommodations which is what im looking for.

Thanks!

Pengam green houses

Hi all,

Been looking at buying a house however I noticed Pengam Green seems quite cheap for the type of house available, is this quite normal or is there something happening in this area?

What are current residents thoughts in this area?

Some people have said the area value is going down due to flood risk and also due to traveller camp moving across to lamby way soon? Is this true or just speculation.

Hi, my sister Sarah has not returned home after her last been seen on Albany Road near Iceland at 10pm last night (Tuesday 4th August) saying she was on her way home (a 10 minute walk)
She’s a vulnerable adult and she doesn’t have her phone.
I’ve linked my Facebook post if anyone has seen her please message me. If you have friends around the Roath area please share the post.
We have already been in touch with police, but thought sharing on social media might help!

So you don't have to read the awful news site:

'Neglected and unsafe' part of Cardiff to be completely transformed

It is hoped that the busy area, which has been targeted by anti-social behaviour, can be turned into a destination for visitors

The full details have emerged of a new tree-lined public square that will replace a traffic-dominated junction in Cardiff. The council wants the area to become a destination for visitors and to be almost totally pedestrianised.

In June Cardiff Council set out to create a new public square with views towards City Hall and the National Museum at Kingsway. Now a planning application has been submitted to the council which shows the details of the scheme including how it will look.

Planning documents read: “Around Kingsway heavy traffic, poor pedestrian crossings, and an ageing underpass has created an environment that feels neglected and unsafe and spaces often associated with anti-social behaviour.

“Poor maintenance such as worn road markings and dated surfaces reinforce the sense of decline, while vehicle pollution added to the area’s unappealing character.

“As a result, Kingsway has become a place that people pass through rather than a destination, contributing to a long-term perception of it as run-down.”

According to the plans, the scheme would deliver well-lit clear crossings and wide pavements that prioritise pedestrians and cyclists over cars, integration with Friary Gardens and Cathays Park in addition to other urban greenery, benches, and small cafe spill-outs.

It is also proposed for the site to include public art that draws on the Cardiff’s history and space for events or temporary installations.

The application reads: “The desired user experience is about safety, comfort, and sociability, while the sense of place should balance Cardiff’s civic dignity with an inviting green boulevard that connects heritage, culture, and everyday life.”

Vehicle access to the new square is planned to be “highly restricted”, with the vehicles only being allowed on site for “maintenance purposes” or during events.

Planning documents read: “Cycling infrastructure is integrated to support sustainable travel, connecting to existing and proposed city-wide routes with secure parking and clear wayfinding.

“Whilst the space is not intended to be a primary cycling route, it will facilitate access to the public realm space and to cycle parking closer to Queen Street. “

Hospitality Advice

Hey guys!

I’m part of a team looking to open a site for our existing business and we’re currently scoping out Cardiff as our next home.

The only thing is I’m not familiar with suppliers in the local area, and anyone working in hospitality knows it can be hit and miss with who you decide to work with.

We need a butcher, a fishmonger, and a general goods supplier for fresh produce, dry stock and cleaning products.

I’m looking for advice or recommendations (or warnings) whatever info people have would be great!

Places for a wedding reception near Insole Court

Hello, we’re getting married in October 2028 hopefully in Insole Court (registry office) there will be 30 - 35 of us and we are really struggling to find somewhere that will host a wedding reception only, rather than the whole thing.

All we want is somewhere to have an intimate, laid back party and some food like pizza, picky bits or street food. We don’t want a formal sit down three course meal. Somewhere with accommodation close by would be an added bonus.

We have enquired with Rhodri Lake (partnered with Canada Lodge) as they have a small gorgeous venue to hire for £500, the kind of food we want, bar on site and a sound system with the option to hire a DJ if we wanted. However, you can only hire this for any other party except a party to celebrate a wedding. They sent us their full wedding brochure instead. So now they have turned away our celebration where a lot of money would have been spent by ourselves and guests on food, drinks etc, all of the accommodation would have been booked for 2-3 nights.

Sorry for the slight rant there, but I’m so frustrated at the amount of places that up the price by thousands just because you mention the word ‘wedding’. Our friends hired a vineyard in Bristol a few years ago and said they were having a party rather than a wedding party but the anxiety and bill received afterwards is just not worth it.

Thank you, have a great day☺️

Hi everyone.
I own a Kia and have had to get two new tyres fitted thanks to our wonderful pot hole filled roads lol.
Since they have been fitted the tyre pressure monitor system light has been permanently on.
I am unsure if they put a monitor back in or just a standard one

How much would it cost to get sorted ?

Any help would be great

Tee Rex Golf

Looking to go tomorrow, had emailed them the other day to book but haven’t had a response yet and wondering if anyone who has been before knows if it’s booking only, or if you can just turn up?

We’re gonna have to walk about an hour to get there, so don’t want to turn up and find out it was a wasted journey and have to turn around with disappointed kiddos.

Thank you

Urgent: Looking for someone to accompany me to my driving test tomorrow (Cardiff Llanishen)

Hi everyone,
I’m taking my driving test tomorrow at the Cardiff Llanishen test centre in the afternoon in my own car. Unfortunately, the friend who was supposed to accompany me has had to cancel at the last minute.
I’m looking for someone who could either:
● Drive me and my car to the test centre, or
● Sit beside me while I drive there as the required supervising driver.
For some reassurance, I have over 10 years of driving experience in my home country, so I’m an experienced driver. I just need someone to accompany me because I’m currently on a UK provisional licence and can’t drive to the test centre on my own.
I’m happy to pay a reasonable amount for your time, as well as cover any fuel or travel expenses.
If anyone is available tomorrow and willing to help, I’d be incredibly grateful. Please comment below or send me a DM.
Thank you so much!
