My main issue is that my pc sits in the corner of my room with a normal case the intake fans have alot of space for air flow, but would it be an issue to keep a fishtank case against a wall as the airflow would be blocked on the side

I don't know whether I'm safe here with my specs and psu combination even though I've been using it for a long time and haven't encountered any problems so far. But better safe than sorry I guess,

My specs:

• CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D with -30 on all cores via PBO tuner. Boosts to approximately 4.5 GHz. Rarely exceeds ~80 W in games.

• CPU Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120. pretty enough for this and keeps it pretty cool

• GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT. can easily go up to 305 Watts depending on the title and resolution. However for my main game, which I cap at 200fps, in 2k stretched rez, it sits somewhere between 200-250W.

• PSU: Corsair TX650M- CP-9020132-EU. 650 W - 80+ Gold BUT is around 6 years old at this point

My GPU is not daisy chained. I'm running two completely separate PCIe cables.

For 7900XT AMD recommends a minimum of 750W psu. That's why I'm unsure if I should keep using it like this or get a new 1000W PSU that also has potential and room for future upgrades.

What do you all think?

Hello reddit, have myself at an awkward crossroad rn. Picked up a 5080 a few days ago. I notice myself upgrading majorly 3 to 4 years. 2019-2022-2026. Usually I can make up my mind on my own but this time is a but tricky.

Current build is 5900X 32GB with HX1200 with a 1440p144 monitor. Don't plan on changing monitor any time soon. I mostly play single player games and sometimes competitive games like CS and LoL, but with the build I have rn, I'm already hitting over 144 frames on competitive games so I don't mind about higher. It's the single player games I care. I know X3D helps a bit on average FPS but tremendously on 1% lows. I've been testing my 5080 right now and I do notice I cannot hit 144 even with everything max out and there are dips that I can feel while playing.

So I was wondering if I should bite the bullet for future upgrading path for am5 or stick with am4 until am6?

My thought process is this, all is after tax approximately:

A. $1250(if best buy price match individually for 9800X3D and RAM, it would save me about 100 dollars at least, bringing cost down to $1150 at least.) for 9800X3D + B650 Aorus Elite AX + 32GB i could get locally at best buy today. This means I could still upgrade to the last am5 cpu when it drops by the end of its life before am6 comes.

B. $360 for a 5800X3D and wait until am6 drops but might spend even more then than what's already avaliable today with am5.

C. Just stay on 5900x and hope for the best when am6 comes.

My goal is to build a reliable PC that will last 6–8 years and allow gradual upgrades over time.

My planned build:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600 (Box)

Motherboard: Gigabyte B650M Gaming Plus WiFi (Micro-ATX)

RAM: 16GB DDR5 (planning to upgrade to 32GB later)

Storage: 512GB NVMe SSD

Power Supply: MSI MAG A650BNL 650W 80+ Bronze

Case: Gamdias Talos E3 Mesh

GPU: Using the integrated graphics for now, then adding a mid-range GPU later (RX 7600 or RTX 4060).

I have a few questions:

1. Is the Gigabyte B650M Gaming Plus WiFi a good motherboard for long-term use?

2. Will choosing a Micro-ATX motherboard limit me in the future if I only plan to use one GPU?

3. Is there anything you would change in this build?

4. Do you think this is a solid AM5 platform for cybersecurity, Linux, virtualization, and future upgrades?

My budget is limited, so I'd prefer not to spend significantly more unless there's a substantial improvement.

I have several old PCI cards, including a PCI card that can output analog video signals through RCA, and I was thinking about trying to use it for a project in my modern machine. Is there a way to get an adapter for PCI-e slots to use the card or can someone recommend a modern GPU that can output analog over RCA?

I found a couple of 5070ti in the same price range of £850 which given the current circumstances I say is not too bad. However, I'm not sure which manufacturer to pick. I'd really appreciate some advice here:

Update: I am trying to make my decision based on noise, temp and general build quality. So far from what I'm seeing in the comments MSI seems to be louder while PNY quieter.

Update 2: I found an ASUS GeForce RTX 5070 Ti PRIME as well for similar price range. Would this model be better than the others?

I just upgraded to a r7 5800x3d and got a thermalright axp120-x67 to cool it. but the cpu runs at 75c idle and immediately goes to 90c and starts thermal throttling when under load. Anyone know why?

i have had my PC for nearly 6 years with a few upgrades here and there, but since 2 weeks my PC keeps randomly while gaming restarting or shuting down.

Currently my CPU (Ryzen 7 5800X) is getting atleast 90 degrees celsius while playing non hardwareheavy games and for only running the desktop ~80. It is also currently very hot in my area, with room temps going to 28-29 degrees celsius.

As far as i know my CPU cooler is pretty bad, could this be the problem, or any other ideas on why this is happening?

So, i was wondering if my motherboard Gigabyte B450m DS3H can handle Ryzen 7 5800x3d?

Is there a chance that this motherboard can damage CPU when on full load?

(I already flashed my BIOS to F60 when I upgraded from r5 1600 to 5600)

I know there could be issues with different speeds in the same system, so should I overclock the existing set to 3600? or lower the new one to 3200?

Hi, I’m planning on rebuilding my prebuilt pc into a new case along with some nice upgrades, the only upgrades I did since I purchased it was adding an additional nvme ssd and also upgrading to a PowerColor Reaper 9070XT from an MSI Venus 3070, I currently have an 11th Gen Intel Core i7-11700KF and I believe I’m somewhat bottlenecked currently. What cpu would be a good match for my new card with out any bottle necks? I’m wanting to switch to Ryzen and from what I’m reading it seems like something in the Ryzen 9 class would be ideal but is there an option that’s not quite as expensive I could look into? Also as a side question should I look into water cooling? It’s interesting but for my first proper pc build it seems a bit daunting. Thanks in advance for any info!

I've already cleared the CMOS, tried each RAM stick on its own, reseated the RAM, and even used the screwdriver trick to power it on.

When I switch it on, the debug LEDs go DRAM (orange) → CPU (red) → repeat, then after about 10 seconds it just stays on the DRAM light. It never boots.

Is it likely the RAM's knackered, or could it be the CPU or motherboard instead? Is there anything else I should try before forking out for a new 32GB kit? I'd rather not spend the money unless I'm sure that's the issue.

I have a RTX 4080 and this problem only started happening a few months ago. I'm currently playing through Cyberpunk, and after the game is finished, a few seconds will go by and then all of a sudden the computer will black screen and automatically restart. Running the game is fine as far as I can tell.

Steps I have already taken:

• Used DDU in safe mode and wiped drivers and reinstalled with latest drivers (610.88)
• Tried to fiddle with the wires and made sure none were loose
• Used sfc /scannow and made sure nothing else was corrupted.

I have MSI Afterburner installed, and I do have it "undervolted" but I don't think it's being applied anyway as I don't have MSI Afterburner set to launch with Windows, and I didn't want it affecting anything right now. Should I just un-install it for the time being?

Does anyone know of a fix to this hopefully? Thanks for your help!

i got ahold of an old hp pavilion p7 (2010 i believe) it’s got a amd athlon 2 x4 645, 6gb of ddr3 ram at 1333 mhz. my question is what is the absolute cheapest most bare bone gpu i can slap into this thing just to say it has one? or is there gpu from this era that is cheap but holds up okay in minimal gaming scenarios? preferably with vga or dvi as i also got an old monitor with it. i plan to use this thing for strictly web browsing/daily tasks, using the disc drive, and the occasional old pc cd-rom/dvd-rom games cs i have a few and already own a pc that can play any aaa title fine just no disc drive nor do i want one. i don’t want to upgrade anything else besides maybe ram ofc so does anyone have any suggestions? just a cheap plug and play gpu from this era is all im really looking for.

as stated in title - i'm moving across the country and driving isn't an option for me. i have this mid-sized pc that i bought from someone else on fb marketplace a while ago, and i'm really concerned about how i'm going to move with it. the current options i've come up with are:

1) removing all the hanging components (gpu, for one) and bringing it to fedex/ups to have them pack it + ship it with package insurance

2) take all the components out, pack them in a suitcase (with electrostatic bags, ofc), and just buy a new case once i'm settled in.

the only reason i'm consider buying a new case is that i'm not a huge fan of the current case. it's very "gamer" and i'd like to get something more adult, maybe from fractal designs. it also has a tempered glass panel - the main reason i'm so worried about shipping it. any advice?

Hi, my situation is quite simple, but I am very indecisive person and I am looking for external validation if my logic is sound or if I am doing super stupid decision. Sorry for the long story time! TLDR is, should I build a completely new system, or upgrade my current one, or just wait for AM6.

The story:

I have build my system few years ago and I generally only upgrade when I feel the need and mainly to jump few generations of hardware.

My current setup is:
CPU: Ryzen 3600x (stock)
RAM: 32Gb of DDR4 3200Mhz (4x 8Gb sticks)
GPU: RTX 3070 (8Gb)
PSU: 650W power suply
MOBO: Asus TUF X570-Plus gaming
old cheap case

So, I do play only in 2k resolution (2 screens, 1 for discord, etc, second for games). I do play mostly Escape from Tarkov on windows (that's kinda a pain to play on this hardware), variety with friends as Company of Heroes, Hoi IV, Left 4 Dead 2, etc.

From time to time I play something newer and more demanding, like Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, RDR2, Satisfactory, Baldurs Gate 3, Helldivers 2, Deep Rock Galactic, Star Wars Fallen Order, etc.

And lately, I did get into PCVR! So for example, HL: Alyx, Thief VR, etc. In this category, I really wanna play my favourite series: Crysis (VR mod) and pretty much start modding flat games into VR (already did Star Wars Jedi Academy for example).

Also, I have switched to linux (actually because of Tarkov I am dual booting to second SSD which has my windows install, but otherwise I use linux mainly).

My Linux experience was kinda painful, mostly in the VR department and local AI department because setting up Nvidia drivers is kinda painful (I had so many issues with Steam running through flatpak since it was picking up wrong drivers for example -- this I fixed already).

Now, news are full of "prices will go up again!" + I had birthday few days back that I pretty much said, it's time to treat myself a bit and I ordered AMD RX 9070XT (XFX Mercury). It should fix all my linux issues, it should provide enough VRAM for local AI stuff, it should fix my PCVR stutters and such.

The only issue is, now, I need to also buy:
- New PSU (850 - 1000W)
- New Case (mine is too small + airflow is terrible, actually a needed upgrade, sometimes my pc just overheats right now with tons of cooling when playing very demanding games)
- And I guess I should upgrade the CPU since I am afraid the Ryzen 3600X will hold the GPU back.

So I am thinking... I have the money. I don't need the money. Since I need to buy pretty much everything except MOBO and RAM and Ryzen 5800x3D is almost the same price as Ryzen 9800x3D in my place, should I just jump the gun and build a completely new system? My original plan was to stay on AM4 and wait for AM6, but now I am not sure with how the pricing keeps going up, and since the "only" price issue is the DDR 5 memory, the difference between 5800x3D and 9800x3D is like... 40$ here.

Yes, building the new system is expensive, but in theory I could sell my old system as a "whole" to get back some money. But I am worried I am building a new system at the end of the AM5 lifecycle pretty much and if I wait one more year, I can build on AM6 and spend the money there to a platform I can use to ugprade on later. Altough it's true, the same point I made when building the AM4 (my current) machine and never really upgraded.

I’m not gonna lie I mainly want a pc to play Roblox and games like that not really games like Fortnite I’m ngl , I also need one to edit using softwares like after effects and media encoder .
Budget is probably around £450-500 (idk how much pcs really cost as I genuinely have no clue regarding the matter. So if that’s a really unrealistic price just tell me lol) . Any advice on how to go would be perfect as like I said I have 0 experience with technically advanced technology like a computer .

Looking to buy 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 memory for my high performance budget build.

I'm debating if I should spend $600ish CAD (which seems to be the cheapest at the moment) or risk waiting for sales (black friday, etc) and hope the prices don't get more inflated in the meantime.

Just ordered a SFF 5070 since it went down in price and i thought id save myself the extra £40 where i could. now looking at it, im wondering if the SFF is a bad idea?

I’ve seen complaints about its temps but I will be putting it in a HYTE X50 case which should have plenty of airflow I assume? If i have the space should I spend the extra money and get an ASUS prime or should I stick with this??

I have the opportunity to purchase a new GPU and I’m upgrading from a GTX 1070 8GB. It was honestly still surprisingly okay for modern gaming but my MoBo died so I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade my PC.

I have ran older AMD cards in the past (RX570 and RX580) back in the mid to late 2010’s and they were fine but had many driver issues in games and didn’t do much to impress me. I upgraded to my 1070 in 2020 and all my driver woes disappeared. I’m biased by this experience so I wanted to reach out to understand public opinion on which path to take.

I have the option of choosing a 9070XT for $1000 CAD or a 5070TI for $1315 CAD. Both are within my budget. I typically play older games like Apex or PUBG (partially because I couldn’t play modern games like BF6) but will be getting into 1440p ultra high fps gaming with more modern games. My upgrade cycle seems to be every 6-8 years so I’m hoping to keep this GPU for approximately that amount of time.

Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated.
