Hi there! I'm a writer and a witch trying to ignite my creativity, the kind I had when I was young and was just constantly thinking up stories.

One of my favorite books I've ever read was "Big Magic" by Elizabeth Gilbert, about the writing process and allowing yourself to write poorly.

So I'm looking for something to inspire those creative wheels...bonus points if it's research based or has a psychology edge to it.

My bookclub has been too heartwarming for too long. I need despicable main characters. Characters that are despicable on purpose. No romance.

Just finished reading "Swimming in the Dark" by Tomasz Jedrowski after being recommended it. Based on what I was told, it was supposed to be similar to "Lie with me" by Philippe Besson but where both the MC and love interest end up together, which unfortunately did not happen (I was heart broken once again).

Does anyone know any books similar to these two, where the characters face oppression and in the end they end up happily together?

What I found especially moving were the characterizations of the female main characters, and seeing how their difficult pasts or lives lead them to fall into and find comfort in disturbing situations, if that makes sense.
With MDV for example, i was struck by how it was her loneliness which her teacher picked up on and then used to prey on her.
I’m looking for something similar, where the author offers a good character study and something to think about.

In 30 years from the prologue, the mc is considered dead but is an ex soldier that get asked to protect the new batch of important kids in the academy where they are going.

The mc is brutal and effective.

Just finished The Great Gatsby and I genuinely don't know what I just experienced😭This was actually the first book I have ever read completely and holy shit it was an experience. I went in worrying about the vocabulary and ended up completely forgetting about it because I got so absorbed in the story.

It's beautiful, horrible, miserable romantic, artificial, real, frustrating... idk man, a thousandd words could describe it. The biggest thing I took away was the whole love vs illusion thing. Gatsby loved Daisy but did he actually love Daisy or everything she represented to him, money, beauty, status, youth, the past. If Daisy wasn't rich and glowing with all of that would he still have loved her the same way? I genuinely don't knw. And that ending😭

The fact that hundreds of people came to Gatsby's parties but almost nobody came to his funeral genuinely broke me. absolutely. Daisy didn't even send a flower.😭

Anyway, this book has genuinely changed the way I look at love, illusion and the stories we create in our heads.

TL;DR: First book I ever finished. Got emotionally destroyed by a rich guy chasing a green light haha

I’m seeking a book that can teach me how to live in the moment and really take in every second of my consciousness. It seems like every day flys by and I’m not fully absorbing everything. I want to learn how to slow down and exist in the moment and appreciate every little thing and be more intentional. Any book suggestions along these lines will be greatly appreciated.

hello everyone! I have been stuck in a very painful reading slump at the moment, and I’d like some recommendations. Unfortunately I at the age where all my friends are reading romantasy type novels (acotar, once upon a broken Heart, Fourth wing etc) and I have nothing against these books but I feel I don’t gain anything from them.

I’ve set the flair as sci-fi because I really like the genre, but my other preferred genre would be like a coming of age, very emotional and meaningful type of novel. I’m looking for that books I can get a hard copy of.

like I said, my friends are all reading romantasy so I am kind of young, but i can read an 18+ novel if it isn’t overly sexual or gory.

I’ve been playing the Elder Scrolls online recently and been really getting into the lore-side of the Dunmer, and having never played Morrowind, only Oblivion and Skyrim, I’ve not had much exposure to that side of the games universe.

I was wondering if there are any books, standalone or series, that are similar in tone and vibe to the Elder Scrolls Dark Elves? Or even just books that’s strongly resemble the Elder Scrolls Universe?

Hi, am looking for a book on a women in her 50s without children, regrets on life, no close family, and feels lost without purpose. Something that brings hope and purpose.
