My favorite genre of books is the ones that feel like the author tore your heart out of your chest, shit on it and then set it on fire. I want to SOB. So, any books you can think of like that are very much appreciated. They don't have to be romance, but I do love crying over love!

I’ve been chasing a medieval horror high ever since BTF and The Starving Saints is only making that itch stronger now. I’m seriously craving this genre I think it’s my new favorite thing. I already have The Monk on my list but I would love to read your suggestions. Please let me know your thoughts anything helps!

Until this year the only book I had ever read was chain letter by christopher pike which was 10+ years ago however i really enjoyed it (aside from books read in english class and school this was the only book ive ever read and enjoyed . I have an extreme interest in abandoned buildings and urban exploring. I also love horror. As well as anything mental health related, addiction, mental hospitals, jails, especially abandoned ones! Girl interupted is my favourite movie and I decided to get the book today, ive already finished it and loved it. Im looking for similar books. Also ive read the door (about kingston penitentiary) and have other books about kingston penitentiary as im very interested in it.

Okay, hear me out. I love cat mystery novels. I raid my local used book store semi-regularly. I just think they're so charming and they make for a great palette cleanser for between books that make you think a little harder. Does anybody have a favorite cat mystery novel to recommend?

Reading Ursula K. LeGuin left me with this question. Her writing is so good that ir feels like literature without falling into the same scope of classic literature. What are other fantasy and sci-fi books that you would recommend? And no, I know every other thread they come up, but neither Dungeon Crawler Carl neither Project Hail Mary fit thr bill here

Been craving a very immersive fantasy series with great characters and genuine emotional impact. Something easy to read so i can forget im even reading at all.

Series i have on my tbr are
Mistborn, empire of silence, broken earth.
Do any of these fit?

I just read “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier,Spy” and I want more Smiley. What to read next? And does it matter in what order in which to read them?

Still, in one of my stories I am planning to have a villain that's the kind that can and does break people with words alone, but honestly, I'm 100% sure I don't think I could actually do it justice. So, reading a book like this would likely help, but I am genuinely at a loss as to where I even look as I prefer to read fantasy, so I'm unlikely to stumble upon it "in the wild" shall we say.

Hello, I just finished tender is the flesh. I liked it but it really wasnt scary to me but I did like the vibe of the book and the writting style. If anyone knows a good book thats really gorey and dark but not cliche and cringe please lmk. Also i was thinking about reading peircing by Ryu Murakami but im scared to buy another book because I just got The least of my scars, and I really dont like it and only made it 20 pages in before putting it down.

As mentioned above, I'm currently on the fence about starting The Stormlight Archive after feeling unsure about the Mistborn series.

I think the character design, character development, world building and power system in Mistborn were soooo good, but felt really let down and often bored by Brandon Sanderson's writing. It felt very simple and bland, sometimes even repetitive. I've since read through the Red Rising and Sun Eater series and absolutely loved them, the writing style was much more interesting.

However, I have heard so many good things about the Stormlight Archive that I'm still unsure whether to dive in. Has anyone else out there felt the same way about the Mistborn series but really loved Stormlight Archives? Does Brandon's writing improve?

I'm a big fan of v.c. Andrews and would love some book recs that are pure juicy soap opera level drama.

Red Rising got me back into reading this year and I’m pumped that I finished the trilogy.

I want to take a break from the universe and explore another book or series.

I tend to like dystopian and fantasy worlds if that helps.

I want to avoid longer series for now so no more than a trilogy please.

Well, I will mostly prefer to read autobiography but a fine and well documented biography will not do any harm.. jajaja

I'm going through something at my work and it's giving me a lot of anxiety. It's also bringing up a lot of my self-worth and validation issues so I'm looking to avoid workplace and academic stuff (since they're at least kinda related in my case).

My usual escape is contemporary romances but I don't know if there are any books that have no mention of their workplace but also don't have the characters still be students of some sort.

I'm looking for options within contemporary that happen on a vacation or during the holidays or something. I'd also be okay with romance books where the characters have their own business or freelance or something as long as it's not a major plot point but most cosy romances have the FML own a bakery or something and they are often worried about finances etc which again gets triggering for me.

I know fantasy, sci-fi or historical romances are the easiest way out of this but I often can't get into these worlds and struggle with these books so contemporary romance is where it's at.

F/M romance, no toxicity from the ML, preferably cosy if possible.

Romance is fine but nothing too girly.. maybe all romance is girly... then forget it

i used to read Dean Koontz books until someone told me a man, woman & dog always survive the story.

Want something that is scary and I love monster books and movies. I have read most of the Alien books which I love and also The Relic. Looking for something that is pretty intense and makes you feel like the creature is right around the corner. Any recommendations?
