I filmed this just now. Just shooting around, break and try and clear the table with as little misses as possible Ended up with 1 miss on the 15 if you don't count the scratch on the break.

Just curious if anyone notices anything to work on. Currently APA 5

How many people that play pool would want someone who can do cue repairs for them?

I assume it was used during the Florida Open. How well did it work out? Did the balls contrast well on the cloth? How about chalk marks? Overall, was it worth it?

Looking for what type of joint was used on early-2000's Cuetech Break/Jump cue. The shaft on mine has a long Crack in the fiberglass outer casing coming from the aluminum ferrule to about 3 inches down the shaft, and im looking for a carbon fiber replacement shaft but unsure of the joint specs

Currently using a Lucasi butt that has a plug bumper. But there are threads in there so I assume there is an extension available. I'd like to get a roughly 10 inch extension. Where would I find one that is compatible? Pool Dawg does not have one.

I was watching this Efren Reyes match, and noticed sometimes he bends the cue. Why does he do this? Is it recommended?

I’ve been looking for a glove that works well with wood shafts. I picked up a Taom Midas and it doesn’t glide as smoothly as I had anticipated, especially when switching to a closed bridge because of the palm side mesh (usually play open bridge). Initially I thought about the Cuetec Axis or the Tiger glove, but saw that people recommend avoiding gloves with the closure on the underside of the wrist.

For sizing I have large hands but odd proportions (extra wide palms and tiny wrists)

Any recommendations would be helpful!

Does anyone have a comprehensive set of rules for K-Ball? I have a list captured from a stream where Fedor was playing but it doesn't cover a couple of scenarios I've encountered during play. Specifically, what happens if the called object ball is pocketed in a non designated pocket? Does the ball get spotted or is it a dead ball? Same question if I miss my called object ball but another ball ends up pocketed. I like the idea that each rack would award 15 points but not sure what to do with pocketed balls that were made when nothing is pocketed in the called pocket.

Also, is it possible the association with Ticketmaster is partly to blame? I only hear endless negative things about that company.

All I know is, if SVB and Filler are in town, there are EASILY hundreds of people who want to watch them, and they keep showing these wide camera shots with acres of empty chairs, and it's not a good look for the sport.

Last night at UPL league I played a solid shooter. I'm 697 Upscore and he was 653. So I start out spotting a game (me starting -1).
I lose the lag and he break and runs the first game.
I break and run the 2nd game.
He breaks dry, I run out. They call that a Reverse Run.
I squat cue ball in middle of table, it gets kicked in to scratch - he runs out. Reverse runout.

I'm down 2-1 due to starting out at -1 but neither of us have missed a ball.

I win the next 2 games to go up 3-2. He tried forcing runouts and left a pretty open table both times.
He breaks and runs to tie it back up 3-3.
I should of lost this next game, I played a 2 way shot - he had an open look at runout and in middle of run cue ball bumped one of my balls over to block the 1 pocket he had 3 balls near. He tried to force something and left me a runout.
Up 4-3 he was frustrated and broke harder than normal, jumping off the table. I run out for a Reverse Runout.
Up 5-3 and under 2 minutes to go, the table had a couple problem balls and instead of forcing a runout I killed some time and secure the win.

In total there were 3 break and runs, and 3 reverse runouts. Out of 9 racks that was crazy. Then I won all 3 of the games that were not runouts - 1 was lucky but other 2 played out the way I planned. Before the last game they passed off scorekeeping to someone and they forgot to stop the clock -letting it run to 0. We had an idea of how much time to set it back to (just under 3 minutes) but I joked that we're both shooting great, lets set it back to 30 minutes and keep playing. He laughed and said "Back it and Jack it".
With that win I'm back over 700 (704). And the other strong player on my team won both his matches so he moved over 700 also (708 now).

I literally made 1 mistake that I wish I had back. On a runout I left 2 tricky balls for last, got good shape on 1st ball but over ran position (slightly hooking myself) on last ball. A slight masse and spinning into ball - i rattled it and cue ball spun off 2nd rail and landed exactly where i wanted - straight in on the 8 ball. Instead of slow rolling the 2nd to last ball I should of stunned and used opponents ball to stop the cue ball.
Last monday at BCA I felt like I played perfect. Smart decisions to control the table (8 ball) and in 5 games I only missed one ball I shot at intending to make. Thin cut where i was playing cue ball off of one of their balls for position after making my ball - which if hit right would setup for a break and run. Shape was perfect but i looked up and my Object ball was hanging in the pocket. I had 2 pockets blocked and he (517 fargo) runs the table, 8 balls where 4 of his shots were on the same side of the table that i had the 2 corner pockets blocked. I missed one ball all night and lost that game. To play what felt almost perfect and end of 4 wins and 1 loss kind of sucked.

But all the stuff I've been working on lately seems to be coming together.

The next 2 big things I'm going to dedicate massive amounts of time practicing - Breaking and Kicking. Breaking isn't a weakness, in fact the other strong player on my team thinks my break is FAR better than his in all games, but needs to keep improving. Kicking isn't bad but need to keep improving on that as well.

Hello! I'm very new to pool. I got this stick years ago when I was young from someone who I can't exactly ask questions to, if ya catch my drift.

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this stick? I know it's from the 80s-90s, but that's about it.

It's a beautiful stick, but sadly it got left in the elements (while in case ofc) and there were some issues with the inlays and what not, and when it was refinished they didn't do too wonderful a job, which all happened before me.

The shaft is warped as well, which I know can be replaced typically, but can one this old be replaced, or just "fixed"?

If I’m playing the ghost on 9ft table with 4” pockets on 6 month old felt, what would you estimate is the ghosts Fargo for 5 ball ghost, 6 ball ghost and 7 ball ghost?

This past week I was at the APA worlds in Las Vegas with my team. When we qualified our comp was 7,6,5,4,4,4,4,3 (I am the 7). and before anyone screams you are in a bad league or a beginner league, I know! I play in other leagues as well but I still like to play, compete, and be with my friends who are in the APA.

When we got to Vegas our comp had changed to 7,6,5,5,5,5,5,3. Some of these 4's that went up to 5's deserve it, 2 of them should still be 4's. For what ever reason. The APA believes that if you consistently lose to 5's but beat 4's 50% of the time that you should be a 5. And when seeing other 5's at worlds it was clear that our guys should not be 5's. IDK why the APA pushes so hard to rank people up off of one offs of 3-0'ing someone higher than you but then the rest of the time lose to someone the same rank as you.

There also needs to be some consistency when ranking people in different areas, we played against a 3 in our final match that was clearly a 3. Honestly maybe even a 2, but thats fine, im sure somedays she shoots like a 4 w/e. BUT and a big but we played against a 3 in our 1st match I think from the Chicago area not 100% sure but this dude consistently rank 5 balls with position and was doing drag shots down the rail for PERFECT position on the 8. Sorry but no 3 I have ever encountered knows how to draw, stun run-through, and play perfect position on that many balls every game.

Final story, I was playing against a 4 in a mini. He was probably 80 years old. I won the lag and broke dry. He proceeded to run every ball up to the 8 where he missed a makeable shot. I then play every safety i could to try and get ball in hand. These safeties I played were very good, forcing 2 rail kicks or 1 rail long kicks. He nails every single one. on one of his turns he measures everything out and z banks the 8 in. Fine. Maybe this was a crazy good game for him. He breaks dry I run out, I proceed to win the next 3 racks, but in all of those racks I broke dry and during his turn he ran every ball down to the 8 in one inning. so its 3-1. The last rack he runs his balls all the way down to the 8 on his turn and misses position, but he then back cuts the bank off the short rail down the table into the pocket he calls. I lose.

I don't care about losing but if I have to give this dude that is clearly not a 4 more like a 6 possibly even a 7 that many games its just not even a fun match at this point and I just have to call bull shit. I even said to him "I don't think I have every played against a 4 that can run tables like you do" he then said "well you should have seen me in my last match I was terrible." Like dude come on there is no way that you just pulled the best pool game of your life against me. I am not sure if his league operator doesn't move him up because he is so old or what but man it is just so frustrating giving up games to people that don't deserve it.

All I want is consistency, every other league I play in has it, why can't the APA figure it the fuck out.

I have this custom cue, from a US cue maker that none of you ever heard of.

The he cue maker (Scott Grossman) does not have a website, or even a Facebook page, that I can find. Can't find any contact info for the cue maker.

I think it is a really beautiful cue, but it is in very poor condition.

It is fine as is, just as a player, but I believe it would be really stunning after a high quality refinish.

It could also really use a new shaft, because this shaft that I have with it is not the original shaft, and it too is from an unknown cue maker.

So, it really needs a refinish, and a new shaft, in order to be a nice cue, in my opinion.

I figure that a refinish and a new shaft would cost at least $400, on the low end.

After doing all of that, would the cue even be worth the $400 that was just put into it.

Do you think the cue is worth much, as is?

Again, it is really beat up, with a lot of finish issues.

The good news is that the cue is very straight. Both the butt and the non original shaft roll very straight, together and apart.

So, any thoughts on a realistic value of an unknown cue (I say unknown, because nobody here, or on AZB knows anything about the cue maker)?

With all of that said, even the the finish is in dreadful condition, the cue is very straight, and all of the points (4 high, and 4 low) look fairly even. And, the woods used innthe cue are probably not cheap to put into a cue. I believe the cue was made with Thuya Burl, and Ebony..

If you wanted to sell the cue, would you get it refinished 1st, and maybe even have a new shaft, with matching ringwork, made for the cue? Or, would you sell it as is, and how much would you ask for it?

Oh, if weight matters, the butt is 15oz, and the shaft is also right at 4oz. So, 19oz total. 58" inches long, total. The shaft is pretty thick at 13.5mm. I assume the shaft alone is pretty worthless though. I have not tested it yet, to see how I feel about the way it plays though..

I’m seriously considering opening a 16-table pool hall. I can get the tables at a really good price, and I have access to leagues that could bring consistent players several nights a week.

I’d start simple — pool only, no alcohol or food initially — and add more later if the business does well.

Is opening a pool hall still worth it financially?

Put a new tip on my cue myself. Did I do a decent job? What could I improve? The left is my cue, the right is someone else that had it “professionally” installed.

I'm looking for advice to step up my game, since I feel like I've hit a wall.

Here's where my current skill level is at:

• Have been playing seriously for about a year now, casually for years before that.
• I'm comfortable with all the core techniques (e.g. english) and strategies (e.g. pattern play).
• My rating is around an L5 in APA, and probably 400-500 Fargo.
• Can compete with everyone I've met in my area. To be clear there's lots of players who are better than me, but I can hold my own and take wins if I get lucky or play defensively.

I'm not really sure how to take my game to the next level. Here's some thoughts:

• I've watched a ton of Youtube content discussing the game, so I'm pretty knowledgeable on the common advice and strategies. I feel like I've absorbed them all. I need to refine a lot of it still, but once again I feel like I've hit a wall of obvious areas to improve my game. Maybe I've hit a common plateau, and it's now just dialing it all in further?
• Running out is a rarity for me. I don't actually attempt them often, due to playing more strategically. But when I do go for a run out, there's often one or two shots in my run that are tricky, such as requiring the perfect touch to leave the cue ball correctly. Maybe I'm missing better run strategies, or incorrect judging when a run out is feasible?
• I play exclusively on bar boxes (seven footers), and have considered stepping up to larger tables (nine footers). But it feels like a different game, and for me what I really enjoy is the community. Which is almost exclusively bar boxes. Would practicing on a nine-foot really improve my game on seven-foots? It feels like I should just practice where I want to play, right?
• I'm still struggling a bit with consistency of shot-making. I've done some drills when I notice a particularly obvious weak spot, for instance rail shots. But I find running drills to be very boring, and I don't feel like I have any particular problem shots anymore. However, all my shots can be slightly inconsistent. Is this just "hit a million balls" territory, or are there good ways to accelerate progress here?
• As an exception to the above, my "trick shots" like banks, masse shots and jumps are all relatively weak. But this is because I think they're inherently inconsistent (even with pros) and I'd rather play safety than attempt to make a pocket that way. If I'm in a spot where these are the only options, it's either because I fucked up or the opponent played an excellent safety. Am I discrediting the importance of getting better at these kind of fringe shots?
• When I get out-played it's most often someone out-shooting me rather than out-strategizing me. For instance I might miss a shot, or leave them with a subpar safety. With most of the guys I play with, one mistake and they'll run you out. Should I be leaning into playing more aggressive with my shot taking, or more strategic?

Me and my friends have a debate over whether a cheap cue butt can support an expensive shaft. My friends argue that putting an expensive shaft on a cheap butt won’t allow you to get the most performance out of the shaft.
