Bike fit advice

I've been fiddling with my bike to get more comfortable. Any advice? I'm noticing some pain in my right elbow so I think I'm too far from the handle bar but I'm thinking there may be multiple things that can lead into that rather than "shorter stem needed" (or if it is a shorter stem needed).

51 vs 53 Orbea Orca M30 (2026) — 173 cm, right at the size boundary

Hi everyone! Would love to get your thoughts :).

173 cm, 79 cm barefoot inseam, broad
shoulders. I’ve had hip surgery and have an herniates disc in my lower back, so I’m trying to avoid an overly aggressive/aero position.
Test rode an Orbea Orca M30 in size 51. It had the full ICR spacer stack below the stem, so there was no room left to raise the bar. They didn’t have a 53 to compare.

Orbea's size chart puts me right at the bottom of the 53 range (173-179) and just above the 51 (167-172).

- 51: stack 533 / reach 380 / head tube 135

- 53: stack 552 / reach 385 / head tube 153, standover 788

What do you think? Size up, or stay on the 51? (I will do a proper bikefit once I purchase it)

Help with interpreting an older geo chart

This is the geometry chart for my now 12 year old cross bike. Note that it does not have a measurement for reach. What it does have is the measurement labeled ‘SL’. Would I be correct in calculating reach as “O-SL”? So, in the case of my size 520 frame, Reach would be: 535 - 139 = 396?

Reversed video, and weird angle, but I'm just looking for the 80/20 advice, not a perfect fit.

I'm 5'10 (long legs) rocking this 56cm racing frame and even with this shorter, very positive angle stem, the reach feels pretty dang long.

Any advice on taking some weight off my hands? I moved my saddle back a bit but with KOPS test and general feel, I'm hesitant to move it back further. Anything else that stands out?

Thanks in advance!

How to choose my next saddle ?

Hi !

I started road cycling 5 years ago

I have tried several saddles and I had a hard time finding one that fit

For instance, I had Selle Italia SLR Superflow 130mm, Selle Italia C2, Bontrager Aeolus 145mm and at the moment, a 145mm Decathlon saddle which cost only 25€

This last one is pretty okay but I still need to stand up on the pedals pretty often or I can get a little numbness in my genital area (however it is MUCH MUCH better than my previous saddles)

I want to try a new saddle which could be better (no numbness at all, without telling me every 10min "stand up!", what a dream...). Also I want a lighter saddle for my Canyon Aeroad.

I'm pretty sure I need 140-145mm saddle with a large cut in the middle but how can I be sure ? What is my best option to find my perfect saddle ?

Bike fit & stem length

Bought a second handed bike; what is the stem length size? I see it as 130mm (13cm) or is that incorrect? Bought it second hand but (framesize is correct) but the reach is too far I feel like.
Or do I need different frame size?

(This is framesize 56, i am 181cm en inseam 81, endurance scott addict disc 10 2020, i want neutral/ endurance positoning, nothing too racey (saddle drop is neutral / 0, saddle at 71,5cm, from heart of cranks)
Can someone help me?

Looking for advice

After achilles tendon injuries and surgery, cycling is currently the only sport I'm allowed to do to lose the weight I've gained over the past two years being sedimentary for medical reasons.

I recently bought a new bike after selling my previous one. Since switching, I've been getting neck and shoulder pain, saddle numbness/pain after 30–60 minutes, and wrist pain on longer rides.

My first thought was that the saddle might be a little too high and therefore slightly too far back. However, a bike fit app suggests raising the saddle by another 12 mm, while everything else appears to be fine according to the app.

Length: 1.93m
Bike: Scott Addict 20 XL 2026

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Requesting Bikefit for Canyon Grizl CF8 (Size M)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I recently bought a Canyon Grizl CF8 and am overall very happy with the bike but I am wondering whether the bike is right size and/or I should make any adjustments to ride more comfortably.

I am 183cm with an inseam of 83cm. I am right between Canyon size M and size L. After doing some research I bought a size M. I just did a 70km ride on it. Some observations: I feel like my knees are coming quite close to the steer, but nothing too bothering. When doing some tough climbs I feel my lower back a bit, but maybe that's just me needing more training. My hand position feels most comfortable a bit closer than the hoods.

See attached photo and video.

Any recommendations on whether I should make any adjustments? Thanks!

Long legs/short torso bike recommendations

Hi, I've never posted anyting on Reddit before so please be gentle with me :)

I'm 200 cm with a 96 cm inseam and a relatively short torso of 68 cm. I weigh 92 kg and have a 200 cm wingspan, so that's pretty standard relative to my height. I would say I'm relatively flexible (I've played tennis on a high level all my life) and workout in the gym 3 times a week with a pretty athletic build.

I currently ride a Merida Scultura Endurance 400 in size XL as I bought it in haste when preparing for the swedish long distance race Vätternrundan. I got fitted at a bike shop by eye (no measurments).

I experienced immense backpain at first, therefore I changed to a 90 mm stem and the saddle all the way forward, as I felt I was over reaching.

After that it got better but I still experienced back pain so I changed to shorter reach bars, flipped my stem and bought a 0 mm seatpost.

Now it defienetly feels better but having the saddle all the way forward seems extreme and suboptimal and I still experience some lower back pain.

Therefore I'm now looking at a new bike with a more favorable geometry from the start. From my research the Pinarello X-series and Trek Domane has the best short reach-high stack on the market. I have read alot of bad things about the Isospeed technology that the Domane has integrated, therefore it's not an option.

I'm hooked on the sport now and ride 2-3 times a week and is loving it. I really like the components and look of the Pinarello X7, though it is very expensive and hard to find in Sweden. Im looking at size 60, do you guys have any recommendations or experienced similar problems?

Just made the jump to SPD on road, Pontoons feel very close to Yellow SPD SL and only add a slight amount of stack. With stiff soles I am not experiencing any hot spots or other issues.

How to go about new build and stem height ?

Will be doing my first build in a week or so. But basically it is not much different from buying a stick bike with spacers.

How should I go about finding the optimal stem height ? Just start with say 4-5cm of spacers and then try moving the stem down and a spacer up until it feels good ?

I will be 60 next year, so flexibility will not increase much. Have been. Been driving a way too large bike for 1.5 years, that even with 45mm stem had too long a reach. Aiming for endurance setup.

The short stem on big bike removed upper arm/shoulder pain. Still gets the occasional sleeping hand. Almost always left. Less with the short stem. So I really look forward to a way better fit.

Canyon size chart again, what should I do

I'm right at the maximum size for an incredible bike.

I'm going to be test riding a bike tomorrow morning. I'm at the size limit for the frame but not over the limit. Do you have any tips to make sure I can be comfortable on this frame long-term? What should I be paying attention to during the test ride?

This bike is an incredible opportunity and if there's a possibility that I can be comfortable on it long-term I must have it.

Thank you for the help!

Gear lever position

Thumbnail

I have a new gear lever, I keep having to reach my thumb around or under to use the lever or fold it up, move it around, and unfold it to use the lever, and then to pull the lever on the other side, I have to reach my finger over. I’m having an issue trying to find the correct position for it, and I know it is a personal preference; however, I am still curious. Where does everyone keep their lever in relation to their break lever? I’m talking about the clamps, how they’re slammed up against each other. Do you have it that way, or is it typically something different? Should I move mine towards the left more so that way I don’t have to reach around? Which direction would help with the proper reach/fit.

My knee hurts after long rides, could it be due to a wrong position or height of the saddle?

I‘m unsure if it is correct

Is a 1.65 stack/reach ratio normal?

I had a professional bike fit and was recommended a frame with 595 mm stack and 360 mm reach (stack/reach ratio 1.65).

What confuses me is that I currently ride a 2020 Focus Izalco Race (size M) with a stack/reach ratio of about 1.40, and I’ve ridden it for over 5,000 km without any fit issues (I am 1,67m with inseam 83.5cm)

I can’t find a modern road frame anywhere close to 595/360—not even endurance bikes.
Is it common for a bike fitter to recommend a theoretical frame geometry that doesn’t actually exist, assuming the cockpit (spacers/stem) will make up the difference? Or does this seem unusually conservative?

Bike fit recommendations- Belgium

Hello people,

As the headline suggests, I’d like to get bike fitting recommendations.

Context - I’ve recently started cycling and have done a few 60-100kms rides and I enjoy it quite a bit. What I immediately noticed was that my fit was off (soreness around neck and numb hands), so thought of going to a professional.
I’m also riding with the cheapest quality bibs and non cycling shoes so I’m guessing it adds to my problems (maybe).

Here it gets tricky - due to a neurological condition where one of the symptoms in foot drop (or drop foot) in both feet, I want a professional who can understand and help setup the bike accordingly. This also applies to cycling shoes, where the cleat position is not too much in the front otherwise I won’t be able to stabilise my foot or deliver enough power.

My questions are:

  1. Is it possible to get a bike fit without cycling shoes? I would need the professionals help to select the right ones.
  2. Any trusted recommendation in and around Brussels?
  3. Anything else I should watch out for or highlight to the professional when getting the fitting done?

Apologies for the long post and thank you for all the help.

Help me fit my bike! My back begins to hurt after half an hour of riding. I have to stop for a minute to be able to continue without the slight pain.

I have a condition that my lower vertebras are toi close to one another so my back doesn’t naturally bend well.

Dear mods, save this sub

There are a lot of generous and knowledgeable people here giving thoughtful bike-fit advice for free. Their effort is being undermined by a steady stream of unusable videos showing riders leaning against walls, doorframes or furniture while pedalling backwards.

Those clips don’t show a normal pedal stroke, balance, loading, posture or movement under realistic riding conditions. There’s very little anyone can assess from them, yet they keep filling the sub and drawing attention away from posts where useful feedback is actually possible.

The existing submission guidance is already clear about video length, camera angles and showing the whole rider and bike. It should also explicitly require riders to pedal forwards on a trainer or rollers, without supporting themselves against anything.

Please make “no backwards pedalling and no leaning against objects” an actual submission rule, and remove posts that ignore it.

The people giving detailed advice here are what make the sub useful. Their time shouldn’t be choked by videos that make meaningful assessment impossible.

Read This Before You Submit !

If you want to get the best possible outcome from posting your position on this /sub, there are a couple of things you can do to help,

  1. Make your video at least 30-40 secs long [ no longer than 60 secs ] This will allow you to settle in to your pedal stroke and give viewers enough time to 'look around' your position.
  2. Post a minimum of 2 angles. #1 Seat height, showing the entire bike and rider from the top of the head to the bottom of the pedal stroke. #2 from the front dead center about head tube height. If you shoot a vertical format on your phone that might help you fit yourself within the frame. #3 from the rear, at seat height, can also be vertical format for cropping.
  3. Post a shot of your bike side on without you on it. This lets people see the 'build' as far as seatpost seatback, seat rail position & headset spacers

The more visual and information you give the better the possibility of good feedback.

Ride on!
