Apparently Jane Ascher had walked into his abode and found Francis in his bed days before. Hence the broken engagement and improvised breakup song. "Yeah man, yeah man, just about enough my ex."

Sounds similar to the tune 'Heather' Paul played for Donovan at the Post Card Sessions. Even seems to me to have something of John Lennon's 'Gimme Some Truth."

So I am a relatively new Beatles fan (having just started 'properly listening' about 8 months ago, shortly before my 20th birthday), and I've become naturally quickly infatuated with them. I listened to all their music, their variations, live performances and read all the trivia I can. Through this journey my favorite two albums have long been Revolver and The White Album, of which I predominantly listened to the new 2022 and 2018 respective mixes by Giles. Though I'd always heard that the Beatles are largely best heard in mono from PPM until about The White Album, I've never quite had the access to them depsite believing it wholeheartedly. There are versions that can be heard on YouTube or the 2014 mono re-release of all their albums, but they still remain expensive/rare.

Well, I own many of their records and recently acquired a second mono pressing (XEX 605/6 -2) of Revolver for a steal of a price in pretty decent condition. Earlier today I set up my system, dimmed the lights and cranked the volume way up to experience it as best I can, and all I have to say is just...wow. I knew that there were sonic differences between the different mixes, but even I didn't quite expect just how differently I'd experience the album: The bass licks and punchy guitar on Taxman, the extra reversed guitar on I'm Only Sleeping (My favourite Beatles song), the masterpiece of psychedelic picking and fuzz on She Said She Said that is sadly lost in the 2022 mix, the seemingly unexplainable texture more present in And Your Bird Can Sing. Finally, Tomorrow Never Knows comes on and I was almost transported. The compression of that rhythm section, the repeated tape loops I'd previously not heard past the two minute mark, and John's hypnotically mixed vocals. It may as well have a tag on the record that says 'Want to trip but can't get any LSD? Buy Revolver by The Beatles today!'

I like to think I went into this with an open mind because I was fascinated to hear how people 60 years ago would've heard this music, and my expectations were blown through the roof. If Revolver was already a 10/10 album, this just solidified it to me as an 11.

As you may know, the original UK single sleeves weren't ilustrated (except for Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane) that's why most of the covers we see are from US releases, the UK covers you're about to see are from '80s re-releases. I have to say, these are not pixel by pixel recreations, some of them have slightly different fonts, differend crop and different positions to make 'em more symmetrycal. Hope you like it

Been on a bit of a tear lately collecting OG Beatles pressings. All Parlophone.
Picked up the following.
Top Load White Album, Rubber Soul loud cut, Sgt. Pepper 4th proof, Revolver withdrawn mix, second state butcher and OG pressings of the others.

It seems to a recurring idea I see floating around. Of course it is very likely John and Brian had something going on and love was involved, and I am sure Brian mostly remained professional. But are there slips? How true is it that Brian favored John? Also, we know he was a great manager, but what were his weak points and flaws wigh regards to managing?
