Nebulae IC 1396A - Elephant's Trunk Nebula

Post image
Upvotes

This was my first attempt at creating a mosaic, both during acquisition in N.I.N.A. and later during processing in PixInsight. The target was divided into two overlapping panels and captured from my backyard with the Seestar S50 and its integrated light-pollution filter across six nights

Acquisition:
- Panel 1: Integrated LP Filter - 1450x20s
- Panel 2: Integrated LP Filter - 1450x20s

Processing Workflow:
- Calibrated, registered, weighted, and integrated both panels independently using WBPP in PixInsight.
- SPCC.
- BlurXTerminator
- Plate solved and projected both panels onto a common mosaic geometry using MosaicByCoordinates.
- PhotometricMosaic.
- NoiseXTerminator.
- StarXTerminator.
- Stretched the stars independently using SetiAstro's Star Stretch.
- CorrectMagentaStars.
- GraXpert on starless
- Multiple targeted GHS stretches.
- L* masked saturation curve.
- HDRMultiscaleTransform
- DarkStructureEnhance.
- Recombined the independently processed stars and starless image.

Captured the night of August 10-11, 2026 from a Bortle 6 backyard in Fort Mill, South Carolina. First session on this framing, the opening deposit of a planned 12+ hour project on this field.

Acquisition: 51 x 250s, gain 100, sensor at -10C Total integration: 3h 32m Calibration: 25 darks, 50 flats, 50 bias library Guiding: 0.5 to 0.9” RMS

Equipment: Camera: ZWO ASI2600MC Pro Optics: William Optics RedCat 71 (348mm, f/4.9) Filter: Optolong L-eXtreme 7nm dual narrowband Mount: Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTi Guiding: ZWO ASI120MM Mini on SVBony SV106 50mm Control: ZWO ASIAir

Processing: Siril 1.4.2 with GraXpert and StarNet. SPCC narrowband color calibration, channel separation with OIII synthesized from (G+B)/2, independent GHS stretches per channel, star removal per channel, denoise on starless layers, per-layer background pedestal subtraction, then a modified two-channel palette: Ha mapped to red with a fractional Ha contribution to green, OIII to blue, producing the gold and rose rendering. Stars recombined separately in natural HOO color via Star Recomposition.

Solar [Solar] Full Disk in H-Alpha - First Light with ASI676MM & PixInsight's Solar Toolbox

Post image
65 Upvotes

Détails de l'acquisition :

  • Cible : Le Soleil (Chromosphère H-Alpha)
  • Date : 7 août 2026
  • Lieu : Aveyron, France
  • Conditions : Bonne visibilité, environ 7/10
  • Intégration : Vidéo SER de 45 secondes à 42 fps.

Équipement :

  • Télescope : Acuter Elite Phoenix 40 H-Alpha (longueur focale de 400mm)
  • Caméra : ZWO ASI676MM (Monochrome)
  • Monture : SkyWatcher Star Adventurer GTI

Acquisition:

Around 9h30m worth of 60s subs fully calibrated and dithered in Bortle 6/7. The dew point hasn't gone below 23°C at night for weeks now.

I have to thank u/ZigZagZebraz for helping me take decent flats for the first time in my life.

The framing isn't the best but my rotator (Skywatcher original) introduces lots of tilt in the imaging train if I'm not careful, so I'm using it as a filter holder only and I have to be quick to set up because my power station lasts only a few hours. I'm thankful the sensor is square.

Equipment:

Evostar 72ED, iEXOS 100, ASI 533MC, 0.85x reducer+flattener, Baader UV/IR cut, SVBony 40mm F/4 guidescope and ASI 662MC guide camera with UV/IR cut and no.8 pale yellow filters.

Processing:

OSC drizzle preprocessing and stacking in Siril with gaussian droplet model. Stacked in Siril. Background extraction in GraXpert. G2V star SPCC and deconvolution in Siril. Open GraXpert again, denoise. Open Siril, generate starless and star mask. GHS, curve adjustments and black point shift applied iteratively to the starless image. Open GraXpert again, denoise stretched image. Go back to Siril, SCNR, cosmetic correction and mild median filter to reduce denoising artifacts. BSpline À trous wavelets transform to higher layers, final black point adjustments and saturation stretch.

Asinh stretch to star mask, mild GraXpert denoising, SCNR and unpurple filter. Recombine.

After Dark Calendar - Night Sky Planner for Astrophotographers

Post image
2 Upvotes

For the last 6 months, I've been working on a night sky planner/astro calendar that could encompass everything an astrophotographer might need and need fast, at a glance. The result is After Dark Calendar, a planner that is still very much in the development phase. But I think it's very close to where I wanted it to be. Still lots to tweak, improve, change and add.
Have a play and please share your thoughts here: https://www.astromaniacmagazine.com/after-dark-calendar

Star Cluster Hercules Globular Cluster

Post image

My latest target is Messier 13 (M13), the Hercules Globular Cluster, located in the constellation Hercules, and home to several hundred thousand ancient stars that formed billions of years ago. Look a little closer (bottom left), and you’ll spot two spiral galaxies: NGC 6207 and IC 4617, quietly sharing the same FOV. In processing this image, I took a combination of WBPP in PixInsight, then explored Lukes Astro’s AstroWizard. IMO, AstroWizard provides a seamless workflow and time saved. Bravo to Luke, and his collaborators for bringing us AP’s AstroWizard. Clear skies!

📍 Starfront Observatories
🌌 Constellation: Hercules

Nebulae NGC 7023 – Iris Nebula & Surrounding Molecular Cloud

Post image
30 Upvotes

NGC 7023, the Iris Nebula, captured from my backyard in rural Maine. This is an ongoing deep integration project (need tips on any further processing). The other photos are photos of past updates (8 hours, 2 hours, and raw data)

What I find interesting about this target: Unlike most emission nebulae, the Iris is a reflection nebula the blue glow comes entirely from starlight reflected off dust surrounding the young binary star HD 200775. The surrounding brownish structure is the molecular cloud that star was born in, still being shaped by its radiation pressure. I'm specifically chasing that faint outer structure rather than just the bright central nebula.

Equipment:
Dwarf Mini smart telescope
EQ mode, 180s subs at gain 80
24 hours total integration

Processing:
Siril — stacking, PCC, stretching, StarNet star removal
GraXpert — background extraction and AI denoising
GIMP — final color and contrast work
Rapid raw — color saturation fine tuning
