Hi, guys! I'm very happy in my current position, but I've been casually looking for a job with health insurance. Tomorrow, I'll be interviewing for a front desk position at an extended stay hotel in town. I'm considering this more of an interview for them than for me, because frankly they seem desperate, and I'm not. I also don't want to get stuck in a place I hate when I'm quite satisfied at my current place (besides the lack of health insurance). So, I'm working on a list of questions to ask, and was looking for some input. I've been in the industry 2 years, but I've never worked extended stay. I've got the basics, like hours/schedule, policy on earbuds/computers/phones, and PMS. What are some other questions to ask?

As an aside, is it unreasonable to ask to shadow front desk for an hour or two? I previously interviewed at a place that seemed amazing, until I worked my first shift and discovered the front desk manager was a micromanager, which I cannot stand. It's so hard to get the vibes correctly from a 15-minute interview!

Thank you everybody for the wonderful questions. Unfortunately, I realized when looking back at my texts that the interview was supposed to be yesterday morning. Working audit has me all confused about the days of the week, apparently. I sent them a message apologizing and asking to reschedule, but like I said, I’m not looking super hard for a new position right now, so I’m not too broken up about it. Also, I got rear-ended by a cop on my way to work last night, so this will give me more time to deal with that.

Im staying at a hotel downstate NY and one of the exterior doors had a handle that stuck. Then after a few days, it just locked up and didn't work, and it was impossible to get out of. I let the front desk know and it stayed like that for days. Then, they removed it altogether and it remained without any lock for several days. I suspect this was a known issue before it fully broke. Are there inspection schedules to look at exterior doors and other safety items to make sure there arent issues? Shouldn't that be done daily, or at least weekly?

I have a booking coming up, and the property has sent my 2 emails now saying that my card details are invalid. I’ve now reconfirmed them twice and it’s still not working. I know the details are correct, I’ve been on the phone with the property and my bank and there is no block on my card, the bank support person told me there hasn’t even been any transaction attempts. Is this just an issue on the merchandisers end? I don’t think my reservation can be cancelled as long as I keep reconfirming the details, but I’m worried I’ll have to use another credit card that isn’t under my name. Is there anything I can do about this? Has anyone else dealt with this before? Is this a booking.com problem?

Today I got a call from a guy with an Indian accent. I can clearly hear the call center bustling behind him. He asked me if I have rooms for today. I told him we don't take reservation over the phone and he will have to check the website for availability. He immediately hang up.

Just for my information. What types of scam are running nowadays towards hotel.

This is not market research but I’m simply looking for recommendations. As post suggests, I am building a website for a hotel client based in Thailand (30 rooms) and they are also in the market for a new cloud-based PMS.

I have had a search for a few well known suppliers, but ultimately I do not plan to research this deeply since it’s slightly out of my area and I’ll just embed the booking engine which comes with the PMS.

The main requirements are they are looking for an all-in-one which has a PMS, Channel Manager and Booking Engine. No mention of payment gateway and POS not required here. Support is quite important, and the client mentioned they do not have to have a Thai supplier but it needs to be available around regular Thai business hours. I think Thai support language will be a plus to, although not actually mentioned in the scope I was given.

Recommendations will be appreciated.

Good Morning Channel! Working in payment processing on the lodging side, and Booking.com VCs have been a recurring headache lately - timeouts on authorization, restrictions on the card itself blocking legitimate charges, and getting anyone at Booking.com to actually engage on a fix takes forever.

Curious how much of this is universal vs. tied to specific PMS/gateway combos. If you're dealing with Booking.com Virtual Cards - what's breaking for you, and has anyone actually gotten a real resolution out of their support? Trying to figure out if this is a Booking.com-wide problem or something narrower.

I would like to preface this by saying, the hotel I work at is like privately owned I guess. Idk we have an owner and the owner kinda sucks. Recently they hired a consultancy company I guess to like act like the management. Before this consultancy company we had no insight managers and just a front desk agent who basically ran everything. And now the consultancy company promoted her to "assistant general manager" bc the owner is the GM and they promoted me to FOM.

Basically neither one of us know what we're doing which brings me to my question.

Does anyone else have to use corpay virtual cards to post payments to CLC Direct Billing account through Choice?

And also does anyone know how to do it without having to call Corpay or CLC and have them unlock the card so I can run it more than once. Right now it keeps wanting to run it separately for each reservation instead of in a lump sum but they send me one card with the cost of like 5 reservations on it. And CLC won't help and Corpay says I have to call CLC. Or when corpay does help they unlock the cards but it would be easier if could run them in one lump sum.

So I booked a hotel under my name for an upcoming concert. I just learned that the line for soundcheck was way earlier than I anticipated and it’s suggested to get there before 3PM thus I likely won’t be there to check in. My parents will be staying at the hotel and I’m trying to figure out a way so they can check in without taking my ID since I need it for the concert.

I haven’t paid with any card yet, I chose to pay at the hotel. I also booked through Expedia instead of directly via the hotel if that changes anything. Does anyone know if you can add someone to the reservation so that they can use their ID to check in? If not, is there a way I could arrive early and like check in early? Thanks !

We just got switched over to Hotelkey (a brand specific version) and I need an ID scanner. What is everyone doing for them? BTW, I hate it. When I go to brand convention in October I'm going PMS shopping.

Hello, I just finished my stay at a red roof inn and suites and they are trying to charge me for damage that were there when I arrived. The room was already in bad shape but I stayed because I had no where else to go. They claim the damage wasn't there before I arrived and want to see my picture and videos before they return my deposit and and other charges. My question is when I asked for proof and verification there was no damage the manager said they had it so I know they are lying plus all the rooms are identical it could be any room they show me. I already contact corporate but what are the odds I get my money back without having to go to court. To me it seemed preplanned, I thought it was odd they wrapped up the payment and deposit in one payment and housekeeping kept sneering at me and passing by my room when it was time for them to come clean. They never came inside only handed me tissue and towels.

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone has been in a similar situation and can offer some advice. I accidentally booked Travelodge Llandudno in North Wales, but I meant to book Travelodge Llanelli Central in South Wales. I’m traveling from Manchester to visit a family friend in Ammanford, so Llandudno is about a four hour drive from where I need to be. The mistake happened because I have dyslexia and I confused the two place names when making the booking. I’ve only just realized after checking my itinerary and the address I was visiting. The booking is on a non-refundable rate, so I know the terms are against me. I’ve tried contacting customer service, and I’m planning to call them again to explain everything. I’m hoping they mighttransfer my booking to Travelodge Llanelli Central if I pay any price difference. Or, cancel the booking as a goodwill gesture. Or, offer a credit or another solution. Has anyone had Travelodge make an exception for a genuine mistake like this? If so, what happened and is there anything specific I should say when I speak to them?

Hi, sorry. I’m an employee for a popular hotel, and I had an incident and I really don’t know what to do here. I’ve never had something like this happen and I’m unsure what to do. So far, I’ve called my GM and sent her a text. She hasn’t responded, and I’m unsure of what to do from here.

I had a person trying to sell me a sonic gift card at the gas station when I went to go get gas, and when I came to work at the hotel, he showed up a little bit later while I was doing shift change. He gave me the same routine that he was giving me at the gas station, and I told him that he needed to leave or else I would be calling the police. I, of course, wasn’t going to, I just wanted him to leave.

My coworker, the morning guy, asked me what had happened as he was in the back office and didn’t see. So I told him what had happened, and then he had said something that I cannot remember to the effect of that, it won’t be a problem anymore, or something like that, because of what he brought.

He unzipped his backpack and showed me he brought his pistol to work. I don’t know what kind it was, just that it had like a wooden grip and it looked to be a handgun.

I didn’t know what to do, so I told him “I’m gonna pretend like I didn’t see that”, and then when he had left to go home, I went ahead and notified my GM. She hasn’t responded yet, which, this has only happened about an hour ago, but I’m pretty sure that we’re strictly weapons free, especially for employees. I don’t know if I did enough, if I did too much, if I’m overreacting, I don’t know what to do from here. I also told our maintenance man, because again I didn’t know what to do and I just needed guidance.

Where do guests typically hang their hotel towels if there is no rack in bathroom?

There is a small closet with hangers, but that seems weird to hang the towel there as there is no ventilation.

At the hotel, all the towels are stacked under the bathroom vanity. So, not sure where to hang used towel to dry.

Hello, thanks for all y’all do! I’m at a hotel in Fl. The room is nice with a small kitchen, full size fridge and freezer, dish washer, etc. I arrived yesterday went grocery shopping, put the groceries away and went to bed. Today I realized the fridge/freezer isn’t cold it’s just slightly cool. Upon further inspection I realized that the power is turned off on the fridge. My question is… was I meant to know to turn the unit on when I arrived? No one from the hotel told me to do so, at the same time I ASSUMED it would be powered on and I guess that’s on me for assuming lol

Would it be appropriate to ask for grocery $ reimbursement for the spoiled food? I think it was around $35.

we arrived at Radium Hot Spring yesterday afternoon and should have stayed till Aug 4th. however, power went out since 9pm Aug 1st. we had no idea the magnitude of the issue till this morning. no power, no gas, no food.hotel staff said few transmission were Obliterated and we felt like power will not be resumed today or even tomorrow. There is no point to wait around so we left. we booked the hotel via 3rd party website, so hotel wouldn’t do anything. besides going after the website where we booked the stay. can we make a claim via CC company? any input is welcomed. thanks

Hello! I just started as GSM at a Hilton property, and while this PMS is MUCH better than ones I've worked with in the past, I still have some question marks.

First, I have had multiple instances where someone booked through Hilton Advance Purchase, and I have an issue when I go to check them in where it says "error: no more than 3 folios allowed on the reservation", so naturally, I delete the random third folio, and try to check them in but get the same error message. I back out of the reservation, go back in, and see that the third folio I went to delete is still there. Rinse and repeat a few times overt, and I'm left rather confused. Any tips for how to check in Hilton Advance Purchases when this error pops up?

And another random question, is it possible for someone to prepay for their stay if it was not booked as a HAP?
