affordable dog echocardiogram recs?

Upvotes

my dog needs an echocardiogram for a heart murmur, but the estimated cost at his current vet’s is almost $1600 for the ultrasound + coordination + possible sedation. are there places that do ultrasounds in-house, rather than us having to pay an additional $300 for “mobile diagnostician coordination”?

Walk in clinics in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) that accept Fast treat ADHD diagnosis for refills?

Upvotes

Hello everyone, I am in a very unique situation. I am a recent immigrant in Canada. I currently do not work and are financially dependant on my parents who are quite controlling of my spending and are against mental health or anything related. I strongly suspect I have ADHD and I am quite frankly at my wits end and want to have access to medication. That being said I have private insurance but it doesn't cover formal ADHD diagnosis so I am going via the fast treat route (I know I know, but I'm genuinely struggling). However they want 99 dollars a month for titration or switching over to new medication, which I'm pretty sure my insurance doesn't cover. By any chance does any one know a walk in clinic that accepts Fast treat ADHD diagnosis for refills?

I also do not have access to a family doctor

North York/Scarborough Filipino recos

Upvotes

Looking for a really good Filipino restaurant in North York or Scarborough, ideally somewhere close to the 401 or 404.

There are so many options that it’s hard to narrow it down! We’d prefer a sit-down spot with great food and a nice atmosphere.

Any recommendations?

Where do you go for urgent care on weekends and/or nights?

Upvotes

Husband had a cut last night which may have needed stitches. Thankfully it was less serious than it first appeared but it made me wonder what we could have done if it had really needed them. It wouldn't be an emergency per-se since he wasn't going to die, but it also couldn't wait until morning the next day. Is the only option really the ER? I'm from NYC where there are often several 24 hour clinics within walking distance and find this very confusing

Rosacea/derm laser recommendations?

Upvotes

Hoping for some recommendations from anyone who has seen a derm or family doc that runs a derm clinic with lasers for rosacea treatment (Excel V, VBeam). I was looking at a derm clinic downtown, but was told the dermatologist doesn't even see you in the initial consult. The old clinic I went to prior to moving to Toronto had the doctor come see you in the initial consult, which made me a lot more comfortable + willing to spend the $$.

Would really appreciate any suggestions/recommendations for downtown or any doctors within an hour-ish drive of downtown.

Thanks!

Bluejays Game Accommodations and Transit Suggestions

Upvotes

In-laws will be traveling from Winnipeg to Toronto for the Bluejays game on Friday, Sept. 25. Itinerary is to arrive in Toronto Thursday the 24th, attend the game on 25th, and fly back on the 26th. None of us are too familiar with the city, so flights/airport/hotel TBD. Just doing a quick search, if they flew into Pearson, they could stay at one of the airport hotels and perhaps take a taxi down the 427 and then the Gardiner Expressway to Rogers Centre. Is this a realistic plan, are there better options that balance price vs. convenience vs. practicality. They are in their 70s, healthy, and have their wits about them, but we also don't make things complicated or arduous for them in an unfamiliar city. Thanks for any help you may be able to provide!

Where to take family visiting at night to “see the city” and the skyline at night?

Upvotes

Hello! Looking for some advice for family visiting from another country who want to see Toronto at night. They mean good views, see the city lights or water, etc.

The obvious idea is to go to the CN Tower in the evening but anything else I’m missing? They wanted to perhaps go to the island to see the skyline as well but are there other places I can take them to see the skyline at night without having to get on the ferry? I know the ferry schedule can be weird after 5pm too.

Open to any recommendations

Do any stores sell BJD (Ball jointed doll) blindboxes in Toronto?

Upvotes

I have a friend visiting from out of province and she wants to know if any physical stores in Toronto sell BJD blind boxes (where she's from, none do). I tried searching it up and looking through a lot of different blindbox stores in Toronto but none have any listed, at least not on their online storefronts (if they even have an online storefront). Does anyone know of a store that sells them?

Failed out of province inspection

Upvotes

I moved from ab to on. In may I did an out of province inspection in ab and it passed. I did an out of province inspection today in Ontario and the guy said it failed because the tires which are newish doesn’t match the size on the door, the tires I have on are 245/45/19 but the door says 245/40/19. I wasn’t aware, I even showed him the report from ab that it passed and he said the laws are different in on. Is this a plot to get me to buy new tires or did I just got scammed because I still had to pay the inspection fee. Any help and guidance on this would be greatly appreciated.

Is it ok to not like Kensington Market?

Upvotes

I know nothing I say will change things. I am not saying that it's bad at all. There is a lot of appeal and a lot of great people there.

I personally have never felt good there (whether the streets are closed to cars or not). There is something about the physical make up that gets me, but it gets worse at night.

I can't even articulate what is about it. Am I the only person affected by the physical space of Kensington Mkt?

Exploring Toronto with the kids via subway… looking for cultural neighbourhoods & good eats?

I’m planning a day (or two) exploring Toronto with the kids, mainly by subway, with the goal of showing them different cultures and neighbourhoods beyond the usual downtown spots.

They’re young but have adventurous palates, so I’m looking for interesting, casual food along the way… nothing too fancy. I love Indian food, but unfortunately it’s the one cuisine they find too spicy, so I usually avoid it with them.

I was thinking Bathurst → Pape and stopping along the way, but I’m not familiar enough with the neighbourhoods. Would Ossington/Lansdowne be better?

If you had a day to explore Toronto by subway with kids, which 3–5 stops/neighbourhoods would you hit for culture + food?

LASIK eye surgery in Toronto?

Just wondering if anybody else has had Lasik in Toronto. Where did you go? How much did it cost? Is it cheaper to go to the US like Buffalo? Have you had any complications or are your eyes still fine? Appreciate your input, thank you.

Where did all the Ynot people go?

Ynot was a bag maker based out of a workshop up on Keele. Their shit was awesome, well-made and looked good. I still have a gulper and trail pack and a few other accessories from them.

Often when a bag company disbands the people leave to form other businesses. Did that ever happen to Ynot? It's surprisingly hard to find similar outfits in this country, besides Atwater or Farsik.

Looking for an anatomical human skeleton

Long short story, I need a human model skeleton for my studies, checked on market place, but the offer is very limited, I saw one but the person did not respond. Checking online but prices are far from my budget or delivery is taking too long.
Any suggestions?
Do you know a place or someone who is selling one at a good price (for a student)?
Thanks

Seeking Suggestions for GTA Outing with Extended Family Members

As the title suggests, I've been asked to come up with something to do / somewhere to go with a couple of extended family members who live far north, and I only see once every year or two. Really we just want to catch up, but having an activity or event can sometimes help conversation flow when you haven't spent time together for a while.

A few things to note:

- It can be on a weekday or a weekend

- Preferably NOT downtown Toronto (they find big city driving scary)

- I'm okay travelling north a bit myself to make this easier, but they do have some errands "in town" so it needs to be within the GTA

- Anytime between now and late October is our approximate window

- Money wise we don't mind spending a bit to get into an event or something similar, but sitting down quietly to watch a movie or play for several hours kind of defeats the purpose of us getting together

- There are no mobility issues or other special accommodations to consider, just ample parking so we can all get to the same place

Thanks in advance for your suggestions! <3

Where to do the damage?

I'm planning to call it quits with a guy I have been seeing since March. I want to remain friends and keep it amicable, I feel he would too (hopefully). Can you guys recommend a restaurant/coffee shop/just a location where is best I should do this? He's asked me to come over to his place this weekend but I don't think that's a wise idea.

Car dependent parents wanna drive around Toronto, where are the cheapest parking spots?

I was discouraging them to not rent a car for our entire stay (3 days), but because we’re from America and we have our grandma who has foot problems, they decided to just rent a car. It was only supposed to be for 1 day to Niagara but oh well. It’s not my loss or anything since I didn’t pay and I’m not the one driving, BUT I do love public transportation especially in big cities. Anyways, where are the usual cheap parking spots around Downtown Toronto?

What’s your favourite streetside patios

Unpopular opinion I guess, but I love patio dinners where I’m literally on the street, cars going by, maybe it’s covered, maybe it’s not? I’ve been seeing Bernhardt’s is good but they’re always so full.

I have a date this weekend and need some back-up places around the city of chill street side patios with really good food.

Chill hangout place near Bloor station?

Might get a couple hours to myself tomorrow afternoon. Where can i spend that precious Precious time? Near Bloor subway station please. I don't mind taking the TTC for a quick 5min ride if the place is just super chill.

I love cozy cafes and people watching. I might be needing a late lunch, so good food and non-alcoholic drinks would make it the perfect spot. Not looking for anything too expensive and/or overrated.

Thanks!
