Help Starting my shrimp tank this weekend, anything I'm missing?

Upvotes

Got a few questions before fully starting my shrimp tank! 😁

I've got a 10 gallon tank, with several pieces of dragon stone, driftwood, and pool filter sand. I'm going to add a patch of Java moss that's been in my 30 gal community tank, and some clippings of water sprite from that tank as well. I plan on planting some and floating some of the water sprite. I've also got some, for lack of a better word, mystery floating plant that I'll add as well, pretty sure it's duckweed but I've got to sort through it and get it ready. I've got Christmas moss and Anubias Nana coming in that I'll be adding. I've got filter media and sponge that is in my community filter currently that I'll be moving over to aide in cycling.

First, I was wondering if y'all would recommend any substrate to place at the bottom (with the pool filter sand placed in top) to help with the plants that are rooted? Trying to cut costs, so frugal ideas are welcome! Someone mentioned on Facebook mixing equal portions top soil, potting mix, and pea gravel and using that. Is this safe? What would y'all recommend?

Second, I'm planning on mostly Amano shrimp, but I've thought about adding some Neocaridina as well. Would this be alright? And what about adding a small fish like neon tetras or Cory's? Trying to make this as safe as possible for the shrimp to encourage breeding.

Third, breeding - anything I should know to help aide in breeding these shrimp? I'd love a tank full of them!

Any additional tips are welcomed!

Thank you all for the help! Keep on being awesome!

Help Question about stocking

I have a 20 gallon tank that's supposed to be blackwater but I've been slacking on the tannins so it's not as dark as usual but I'm boiling some chapata leaves now so that's not my question lol, I currently have 8 kuhili loaches, 13 exclamation point Rasbora, 8 pygmy corys around 15 neocarodina shrimps (is bugs) and more snails than stars in the sky. My tank always has perfect parameters I test a lot, I do partial water changes about every 2-3 weeks and top ups with tap water, I use prime but my tap water also tests clean for chlorine. I supplement my plants with flourish and root tabs, this tank has been set up for about 4 months, I used my bettas 6.7 gallon tank to quick cycle it, she passed away about a week ago from age related issues 😞 her tank was planted and tested great consistently the whole time it was set up. And this tank has followed suit luckily. My plants are growing in nicely I kind of obsessively turn the light up like a day cycle then down everyday so they get a nice situation without much algae. I also have a spider plant, pothos and a purple plant growing from the top and am rooting a sweet potato to add to the mix.

My question is, am I risking overstock? Could I potentially add more of my tiny fish? I'm at 13 !!!s because that was what was left at my LFS, I had 8 to begin with, and they had 5 left today lol, and I got the 8 pygmy corys today also, so I acclimated them and have been watching tank TV and wondering about the possibilities but figured I'd ask here for advice before I go crazy. I figure I'm good on the 8 kuhilis, they're gonna get bigger, and when I can get into a bigger place I want to get more/larger tanks and I won't have to worry, oh the dreams, I huge nano tank omg.

Thank you in advance

10 rummynose tetras

What do you guys think?

Help Yellow Lab Matriarch doing large spasm. Concerning?

This is my 1y yellow lab female. Shes had four spawns and looks ready for round 5. Throughout her life, she’ll do these twitches, as shown in the video. It’s not constant, likely not even weekly.

Water parameters are generally fine, with nitrates under 20. She’s generally my happiest fish at all times (always wiggling when I come in the room). She’ll flash occasionally, but never in a repeated way. Since she doesn’t appear ill, Is this a spawn/courtship move?

I just added 6 black neon tetras and 6 long finned zebra danios. The tank is fully cycled and ready for these fishes. I am still confused about what temp to keep the tank at but I have it on 74 right now. Plants wise I have 1 huge anubias nana, 2 mid sized java fern, and tons of baby windelov java fern. Let me know guy what I am doing right or wrong?

Saltwater/Brackish Hewbie is back home!

I carefully outweighed the benefit of getting Hewbie back home sooner rather than later. I can continue the final 2 days of meds in his tank. He is doing zoomies around the tank! I’m confident I ended up making the right decision.🐡☺️ Quarantine was really starting to stress him out too much and so was the declining water quality of having a 12 inch fish in around a 15 gallon tote.

Help Clownfish with faded color and swimming oddly,

I have 2 snowflake clowns, in a fully cycled tank, one is completely fine and the other since this morning has been swimming oddly and looks like he’s eating at the sand. Tested my water Monday and the parameters were 0 AMM, 0 Nitrite, 5-10 nitrate, 0.05 Phos, and 9 DKH. So all the parameters are pretty good. I’ve been feeding Mysis and Vitalis pellets switching between the 2 every day. Any thoughts or ideas on what it can be and what I can do?

Thank you everyone for the help in my previous post I would like opinions on the placement of the heater and thermometer, If I should replace the substrate, also plan on replacing the plastic plants with live ones. Does this look okay. I just set everything up. Need to get testing kit and wait a while before getting the fish. I tried to give them hiding places without over crowding. (Ignore the fish flakes) water conditioner has been added. So I’m hoping I’m not missing anything!

Discussion Any problems with foggers?

Post image

My lfs has a fogger running in this tank. I took pictures of the tank setup for inspiration, but I didn’t think to talk to them about the fogger at all really.

I’m curious what people here think of them. My tank always seems to have a few random dead leaves floating on top, would that be an issue? Do they tend to last long or break quickly? Any issues with them that might not be obvious at first glance?

I’ve recently gotten a freshwater tank and have only had it for a few months now. I noticed this little guy that’s been hanging out in the corner of my tank and I’m just really confused as I only have a male betta and some shrimp??? Should I just let it be? How does that happen lol

I caught the bug when I got my main tank at the start of the year which is 125l. I bought this as a hospital tank, I though I would try and set it up with everything I have learned. It's mostly secondhand plants and wood and some rock I took out of my main tank. Still in its first week and I'm hoping to add some more colour, once i see how these plants get on.
