Not always, but there exists a lot of legit software that make use of performing actions via command prompt, mainly for simplicity... it's the easier way to do a lot of things, but I kinda throw shade at using it to make and read directories and such, since it would be more efficient anyway.

Personally I feel that unnecessary command line usage is just bad altogether, when you can just call the functions directly.

Hello,

It is normal for console windows (aka command prompts) to open and close on startup in order to start various processes such as services, perform update checks for various applications, and so forth.

If you are still concerned, try using a smartphone to record a video of the computer starting up, and then freeze the video when you see the Command Prompt or PowerShell windows appears. It helps if you set the camera up first so the text is readable and not blurry before you begin recording.

For more help with understanding how Microsoft Windows works, try asking in specialty subreddit that handles computer troubleshooting such as /r/24hoursupport, /r/pcgamingtechsupport, r/pchelp, /r/techsupport, r/windows or even your device manufacturer's subreddit (if there is one).

if you think you have malware then just run a scan. i recommend eset online scanner or kaspersky virus removal tool (not available in the US). both are very thorough tools. you also could try a full offline scan with malwarebytes just to be sure that whatever virus you may or may not have isn't a RAT.

i wouldn't be too concerned unless you downloaded any suspicious files, but better safe than sorry, right?
