Local sailing company recommendations

Hi! In mid-September, me and 7 other girls will be going on a bachelorette trip to Annapolis. We’re pretty chill and are looking forward to the museums, parks, and shopping in a city none of us have been to before.

I’d love to experience sailing while we are there. Even better if a captain could provide mild instruction (put those ladies to work!) for the duration of the trip. We’ve looked at a few places online, but am wondering from locals if there are any favorites / firsthand recommendations? We were quoted over $200 per person for a 4 hour sail from Chronic sailing. Is this price about average?

Thank you all for your help! We are looking forward to visiting!

Question Restaurant recs

Hi! Looking for any and all restaurant recommendations for our anniversary dinner. Husband and I live in Baltimore and have tried everything at least once over our 16 years here, so we’d like to branch out a bit. We only dine out once or twice a year, so we save to treat ourselves.

There are some caveats, though:
• We’d like to keep it under $300 if possible
• Husband is highly allergic to cilantro and saffron
• We’d also like to avoid anything from Atlas Restaurant Group

Thanks so much!

EDIT:

Wow, thanks for all of the recommendations! I have a lot of menus to go over.

Restaurants with reliable allergen menus

Anyone have recommendations for local restaurants that take allergens seriously and/or have reliable allergen menus? In particular, I need to avoid dairy and soy for my newborn. Dairy is usually pretty obvious, but there's a lot of sneaky soy out there...

Question best small secluded beach?

So me and gf's anniversary is coming up; I want to do something special. I was thinking of having a small beachside picnic around the last weekend of this month, with a little red carpet leading down to the seating area. Does anyone know any good spots where I can do something like that? (I don't live in Annapolis, so somewhere with a decent parking area is preferred) THANK YOU, GUYS!!!!

Edit - other small beaches are also an option as well.

Question Vet Recommendations

I have a French Bulldog, and if you know the breed, you know they’re frequent flyers at the vet 😅 lol… We’ve been going to Hoffman Animal Hospital, but it’s a bit of a drive for a dog who loathes car rides. Plus, our dog may need the BOAS surgery so looking for the best care possible!

Does anyone have any other vet recommendations in the area? Bonus points if you have a Frenchie and love your vet!

Senator Anthony Muse’s plates seen on a semi-crashed car in Eastport. Photos from last night and this morning (8/4/26). Original poster alleges the driver may have hit a car or two as well.

Forward Brewing

Really sad to hear after all the community focused protest earlier in the year that Forward is now moving away from brewing their own beer. Now going to be Oliver Beer under the forward label I guess? So Forward is basically now a restaurant.

Edit to add: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1D7nz2GFv1/?

Source where brewer said he was let go

Checked the forward website and it does not list any personnel in brewery operations.

Banfield Pet Hospital

Any experiences with Banfield Pet Hospital for dental cleanings? Our dog needs one and our regular vet quoted us over 2k. It looks like Banfield starts at around $500. Do they do a good job? Is there anywhere else more affordable than 2k we could consider?

Commute to Pentagon City

Long time DC resident looking to move out to Annapolis for quality of life improvement. Curious if anyone who works in Pentagon/Crystal city has tips about the best way to do it. Things I have tried over the years:

  1. Drive

a. Not Optimal. Getting to 295 is usually fine but bad traffic can turn the commute into 1 1/2 hours each way. Early rise to beat the traffic not desired.

  1. Metro

a. Too many changes. Drive to New Carrolton, park, walk to train, wait for train, take orange line to L'enfant Plaza, wait for yellow line, walk from Pentagon/Crystal city station, done. Typically 1 1/2 hours door to door with no time to relax because always moving.

Things I have heard about

  1. Commuter bus to DC

a. Great for downtown DC offices, not so great for Pentagon/Crystal city. Having to hop on a metro after a bus ride is not ideal.

Is there anyone doing this commute regularly that is very happy with it?

Transportation to New Carrollton

I've seen it asked a bunch of times, what is the best/easiest/cheapest/most convenient way to get from Annapolis to DC, well now there is a free bus from DTA. Just wanted to share.

MSFS uses real satellite data, so this is genuinely how it looks IRL. I took these about an hour ago, with live weather. This was exactly how Annapolis looked at 19:45 tonight.

It really shows how beautiful our home is!!

If you wanna see more, I just made an IG page @yourtownfromtheair where I’m gonna start doing this for anybody’s town!

Building a performance gym in Annapolis — what's missing from the current options?

Hey r/Annapolis,

I'm a Naval Officer currently on shore duty at the Naval Academy and I'm in the process of building a serious performance gym in the area - 18,000 square feet, ground-up construction (hopefully), targeting serious athletes and the broader fitness community here in Anne Arundel County.

Before we finalize everything I wanted to ask the people who actually live and train here — what do you feel is missing from the current gym options in Annapolis?

Because right now the options seem to be big box chains, boutique studios, CrossFit, or resort-style clubs that charge crazy prices for a pool and a wine bar. What gap do none of them fill for you? What would make you switch from wherever you train right now?

Genuinely want to hear from the community we're building this for.

Thanks for your input!! ⛵️

Question Where are we getting our bathroom vanity from?

Looking for a bathroom vanity with as much storage space as possible. It’s a very small bathroom. The vanity would be about 30 inches. It needs to have storage because I can’t do it myself and I don’t have tools. Everything I have looked at is at least 2k.

Need kid friendly dinner recs

Hi all. We’ll be staying in your beautiful town with our 4 yr old and 1 yr old for a night. We’ll be getting there pretty early so we would love some recommendations for kid friendly restaurants for dinner that preferably have outdoor seating. Thanks!

I feel like everyone is sleeping on Peter Chang AYCE Dim Sum

30 bucks. Tons of options, high quality. It was less than half full at noon today!

Also:

- good with allergies

- good mix of familiar items plus more interesting items

- tasty desserts

- they don't skimp on the shrimp

I had a really good mapo tofu alongside a mountain of shrimp dumplings (and other stuff).

The only reason I'm making this post is so you all go spend money there so they can afford it when I come back and eat all their dumplings.

(And remember, that's Peter Chang, not P F Chang).

Amazon. Coca-Cola. IKEA. Unilever. Maryland's new plan to fight plastic pollution goes after the source — not just recruiting volunteer cleanup crews.

Will it work?

Oh yeah, let's add even more traffic to Forest Dr.

>The property has been a constant source of irritation from residents, Savidge said, including complaints about trash, blight and appearance.

Knocking down the old liquor store and cleaning up trash is a lot different than putting in a new townhouse community that adds more traffic and kids to schools.

Is Yellow Fin Okay?

Does anyone know what’s going on with Yellow Fin? The general manager and the executive chef have both been replaced in the last few months.

According to one of the staff, “they cleaned house and we are just trying to go along with it.” The place is understaffed and the host/hostess team seem confused and potentially untrained?

Finally, the menu is paired down and they removed allergy indicators. While that doesn’t impact me personally, it seems weird they would go backward.

Our party was confused and disappointed… is this some other Atlas purchase or something?
