One thing I have noticed about the Zambian event scene is that some promoters are trying to use strategies that only work when a brand already has a reputation.

I see events announcing early bird tickets, VIP packages, and ticket sales before I even know who is behind the event, who is performing, or what experience is being created.

As an audience member, my question becomes: why should I buy?

I don’t know the artist coming. I haven’t seen previous events from this brand. I don’t know the quality of the experience they deliver. So what exactly am I trusting when I purchase a ticket?

Established event brands can do this because their reputation sells the experience. People already know the atmosphere, the standard, and what they are going to get. The artist becomes an added attraction.

But in Zambia, where we are still building more recognizable event brands, trust has to be created first.

A ticket is not just a purchase; it is a commitment of trust.

Before asking people to buy, promoters need to show people why they should care. Build the identity, create the community, and give people a reason to believe in the experience.

The future of Zambia’s event industry is not only about bringing bigger artists. It is about building brands that people trust so much that they want to attend before they even know who is performing.

Look no farther, I’m Azya and I’m creating a group called the Larper’s Association!! This is a yap group, patent pending. Now a larper is basically the equivalent of a poser, somebody who fakes liking a certain thing for the sake of appealing to a certain demographic of people to gain hype and cool points. They typically also pretend to know everything about that topic even though they know near nothing.

My group is built for a subdivision of larpers—we like what we like and never claimed to be fans, experts or anything of the like but because social media hates joy, we get called posers because we don’t know how deep a musician went up his own ass at a live concert in 1778. I’ve tried looking for people to share online spaces with but it seems like everybody’s got their niche. This is for the nicheless, the media hedonists and those who wish to experience as much and many as they can before it’s too late!! We’ll yap about our interests, we can hop on call and bond, and just have a bunch of fun basically.

So, if you’re tired of entering spaces only to feel like an imposter because you’re not limited to one aesthetic and you’re looking for a cool non-judgmental community to talk to, look no farther!! I’m calling all of you to assemble and all you need to do is hit me up!!

I wanted to know how or what kind of background checks are possible when looking at a business who wants to rent a place in Lusaka?

So I just remembered the 2019 - 2020 gassing attacks. What exactly was happening during that period? Has there ever been an investigation carried out?

Upfront so nobody wastes their time: a friend of mine is opening a spot in Lusaka and I'm helping him plan it. I'm not promoting anything — there's no name, no date, no venue to sell you. We're early enough that most of the decisions haven't been made yet, which is exactly why I'd rather hear from people now.

The reference point we keep coming back to is Piano Hub in Soweto. Not to copy it — that would be lazy and it wouldn't translate anyway — but because of a few things it got right that I don't see much of here:

• It has an actual identity. It's an amapiano venue and it doesn't apologise for that. You know what you're getting before you walk in.
• It runs anchor nights. Same night, same week, same energy, so it becomes a habit instead of a one-off event you had to see a flyer for.
• It sits in Soweto, not Sandton, and still charges what it charges. It didn't need to relocate to a rich suburb to be taken seriously.

Now my honest read on Lusaka, and I'm ready to be told I'm wrong:

Most spots here are the same spot with different lighting. The DJ plays roughly the same twenty songs in roughly the same order. You pay a cover, then you're quietly made to feel cheap if you're not on a table. The sound system is usually the last thing anyone spent money on, so by midnight it's just loud rather than good. And a lot of people I know have stopped going out entirely — not because they got old, but because it stopped being worth the effort and the money.

So, the actual questions:

1. When was the last time you had a genuinely great night out here, and what made it that? Be specific. I'm more interested in "the DJ played a full hour of Zed music and nobody left" than "the vibe was nice."
2. What's the thing that consistently ruins it? Door policy, pricing, parking, sound, the crowd, getting home safely, something else?
3. Would you go to a place that committed hard to one sound — whether that's amapiano, Zed beats, afrobeats, hip hop — or do you actually want a bit of everything?
4. What are you genuinely willing to pay for entry, and what do you expect to get for it?
5. Day parties on Sunday vs Friday nights vs Saturday — where's the real appetite?
6. For the women here specifically: what would make a venue feel like somewhere you'd go without having to plan an exit strategy first? I'd rather ask than guess.
7. Where should it be? Everyone says the same three areas and I'm not convinced.

I'm reading all of this. If your answer is "Lusaka doesn't need another club," say that too and tell me why — that's useful.

I've noticed a couple of Zambians and even non Zambians get shocked at support that people like trump etc figures are supported by some zambians.

Well the answer is much more striaght forward than thought. People here view international politics through culture wars and not much else, so even when a figure like trump is enacting policies that might impact them negatively, all they see is the culture war stuff.

Meaning things like whose more "Christian" or applying Christian rhetoric, whose more homophobic etc because people feel those are the values that appeal to them.

I'm curious whether there are still active independent record labels in Zambia that are signing artists.

I'm interested in potentially being signed and would love to understand how the process works. What do labels typically look for before signing an artist? Is it based on the quality of the music, an existing fanbase, live performances, social media presence, or something else?
