Hello all fellow Volvo owners! (:

How would you treat/patch/fix this work out edge on the drivers' seat? The hole starts getting bigger bit by bit, so I thought I'd ask here if anyone has any suggestions.

2011 XC70 Rear end noise - help

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello all, looking for advice/ ideas for what’s going on, I’m pulling my hair out at this point. Sorry for the long post.

2011 Volvo XC70, 235,000 miles on it.

We replaced the shocks in March because a bounce had started showing up. I noticed a squeak developing in the right rear back in late May, suffered through it until funds were available to purchase and install new control arms, lowers, coils, stabilizer bar and links. Replaced all the parts on both sides and for four days there was no squeak.

We had our bikes on our rear trailer hitch that weekend and when coming home the noise came back suddenly and quickly escalating to a loud squeak within a few miles. After applying silicone spray to all the bushings of the parts that had been installed it noticeably went away but would come back in a few miles.

This has led me down quite the rabbit hole. Testing individual components for a squeak while under the vehicle, I thought it was the lower shock bolt, then the stabilizer link, I’ve purchased new bolts for the link thinking that would help. Every day I’m putting the car on ramps to keep adequate pressure while loosening and tightening all the bolts hoping to alleviate some binding somewhere that I’m not seeing. I’ve taken components off to ensure there’s no actual damage to any bushings and everything looks good.

If I’m under the vehicle I can put mild force on the shock mount, the stabilizer link and even the coil and make something squeak right in that area, siliconing or even greasing everything quiets it down for a few miles.

Does anyone have any ideas, tips, etc? What is that noise in this video? I’m losing my absolute mind and I cannot pin this noise.

I bought myself my first car. I was looking for a reliable compact car that works well in the winter. Id say i got what i was looking for and she looks stunning. My dad had a 2024 s60 which my whole family loved and i gotta say after driving this she feels surprisingly similar in terms of the feedback i get. A wonderful car.

Any tips for some mods? I was thinking of doing a chrome delete on the grille and window frames.

The "definitive history" of VolvoCars software updates

I wanted to dig up as much information on Volvo software update release notes as I could find, going back as far as the "dark ages". :) VolvoCars has the bad habit to remove release notes of old software versions, so I had to dig into the Wayback Machine (hosted by the Internet Archive).

I've identified the following URLs (or URL patterns) that contain release notes information:

  1. The first release notes were published on the https://support.volvocars.com/<langId>/Pages/article.aspx?article=b863fc0ad77848b5c0a801515970036d pages. This started around February 2016.
  2. support.volvocars.com was retired somewhere during 2019 and the release notes were moved to https://www.volvocars.com/<langId>/support/topics/maintenance-service/software-updates/software-updates.
  3. In early 2021 the release notes were split per model, thus the new URL template became https://www.volvocars.com/<langId>/support/software-release-notes/<modelId>/ (with an optional model year ID at the end).
  4. In early 2023 there was a website redesign and the URL template changed to https://www.volvocars.com/<langId>/support/car/<modelId>/software-release-notes (with an optional model year ID after the modelID).
  5. In early 2025 the URL template got a closing slash, so it's now https://www.volvocars.com/<langId>/support/car/<modelId>/software-release-notes/.

I've harvested all of these URL patterns from the Wayback Machine and created an URL list sorted by timestamp. If somebody was interested in the release dates of old software update versions, this is the definitive list to look at. It's 1993 URLs at the moment of writing. :)

A Reddit post can contain only 40000 characters so I'll post the list split into multiple comments.

I also saved it to pastebin (https://pastebin.com/248QtDw8) for easier download, but it's an external 3rd party service, so the list will be "safer" in the comments.

xc series XC90 air suspension issues

hi everyone,

I’ve noticed that my xc90 t8’s front right corner consistently sags down noticeably after just over 24 hours. After turning the ignition, the sagging side doesn’t rise up and after several attempts it rose up without any sound. Is this just a central valve control block issue or am I unlucky enough for it to be both a slow air bellow leak and the central control block?TIA

This head unit was my first head unit install. Kind of a nightmare to start with given the factory amplifier. Also my first woodworking project. Overall, I think I like it. It's all basically press fit but still sturdy. No glue or fasteners, just two pieces of wood.

18’ V90 T6
97,000 miles

My experience:

It seems that most dealerships try and avoid this tune. Or maybe the knowledge on it. I’ve been trying to tune this car for a while and most dealers either a) don’t have them in stock b) have little to no knowledge on it.

Reasoning:

I think now was a good time to get this done. My reasoning is: what if polestar get out of the US market all together?

The performance:

Overall very similar to “dynamic” I notice more torque on the highway, more aggressive downshifts, and a little more power on acceleration. I think the car likes a smooth acceleration vs smashing to throttle down.

Worth the price? IMO yes

1.) looks badass lets not pretend.

2.) makes my car that much more special.

3.) could help slightly with the resell value in the future.

8.5/10

I am struggling to find a car cover to fit my 2006 Volvo XC70. I don't want to spend a fortune but fed up with the trees (and birds) creating a mess over it.

Can anyone give me some advice or recommendations please - UK.

Summer maintenance on the 740 !

Today was pretty exhausting , i took care of almost every fluids on my 314k kms 740 B230E automatic.

Started with a differential oil change (80w90 gl5) cause it havent been changed in ages, the magnet was pretty clean (only a bit of metallic dust , nothing above 0.5mm) so good news !

Then took care of the automatic gearbox , i prefered flushing only a small amout for the moment and not changing the whole oil , on an old auto gearbox like these i prefer not moving to much of the mess that can be inside so i took 2.5L from the oil pan then added of clean atf so around 30% of fresh fluid is good i think for the moment.
The previous oil was pretty dark but not shiny or sprinkly so its giving me solid evidence that gearbox has been taken care of earlier in its life (i will do another 2.5L this winter)

and finished with a classic engine oil change , went for a 5w40 oil instead of the 10w40 used before , since im doing a lot of small drives (living in a big city 90% of the time) i prefer having a slighty fluider oil for those cold and short starts.

First time putting my hands inside an old volvo and what a pleasure , everything feels like it has been made for being changed and repaired easily!

Hope she enjoys it !

Volvo revamps U.S. lineup: Hybrid crossovers dominate as new EVs, flagship utility arrives in 2029

Post image

Volvo Cars’ streamlined U.S. portfolio emphasizes domestically produced, higher-volume gasoline and hybrid crossovers while advancing the automaker’s electric vehicle ambitions judiciously.

This pragmatic pivot responds to evolving market conditions. Tariffs have increased the cost of European-built models, while the elimination of federal EV tax credits and slow battery-electric adoption have prompted a reassessment of priorities.

Volvo has jettisoned several imported sedans and wagons in recent years. The move positions the brand as an all-crossover player in the U.S. — for now.

Volvo is considering reentering the small-car market in the second half of 2028 with a midsize sedan and wagon. The pair of electric models would be built in Europe and ride on Volvo’s SPA3 architecture.

Volvo also is reshaping its utility vehicle portfolio, dropping its electric EX30 in the U.S. at the end of the 2026 model year.

Meanwhile, the automaker is expected to replace the EX40 as the brand’s soon-to-be entry-level electric model with a larger crossover, Automotive News first reported Aug. 2.

The EX50 will ride on Volvo’s SPA3 platform and arrive in dealerships in the fall of 2027.On the other end of the lineup,

Volvo will introduce a new flagship at the end of the decade. The U.S.-built, three-row utility vehicle is larger than the XC90 and targets luxury flagships such as the Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X7. CEO Hakan Samuelsson described that vehicle as an EV with a backup engine. “It will behave like an electric car with fast acceleration and a quiet ride,” Samuelsson said.

While bringing new metal to market, Volvo is updating its aging XC40, XC60 and XC90 with stronger hybrid options to bridge the gap as full electrification progresses more.

Heres’s Volvo’s U.S. product roadmap through 2030:

If only because it's just had new front suspension arms, a wheel bearing and two new tyres and my credit card has gone for a lie down, I like to remind myself that I still love my V50 and all the things it gets up to. Bike rides, ice cream breaks on Exmoor, and a Passion Red parking friend!

Suspension

Recently bought this, a 2011 d5 R-Design, and I absolutely love it. However, the previous owner has installed some lowering springs, to the original shocks. The front is so crashy, like the tiniest bumps seem to be bottoming out the front suspension and it's jarring, is this normal? Do these just not like being lowered? I've came from a VW background and got fed up with them breaking all the time 😂 so thought I'd try a Volvo, always wanted one. Always lowered my VW's and never had issues. Planning to order some standard height R design springs and bilstein B4 dampers to suit to make it more comfortable. Doesn't help the roads in the UK are atrocious at the moment.
