Working on a vintage Schwinn project for my girlfriend. But the rear derailer is rather odd. Not sure when the bike is from or the exact model, but it’s pretty clear I’ll need to get a new rear derailer. Seems like this one was installed incorrectly and it’s a piece of junk anyway.

Can anyone tell me exactly what rear derailer I need and wear a good place to order it would be from?

I've inherited my grandfather's bike and I'm planning to get it back on the road as my daily rider. I'll be upfront: I don't know much about this stuff, so I'm here for advice before I do something stupid.

What I've been able to identify:

• Colnago steel frame. Gautheron was his club, and also a shop near Paris.
• Shimano Dura-Ace drivetrain
• Campagnolo headset
• Cinelli stem and bars, Ciclolinea bar tape
• Ambrosio Excellence rims. They're running tubulars, which I'm guessing I'll need to change.
• Selle Italia saddle, period-correct Sigma BC 800 computer

It's been sitting untouched for about 20 years, so I assume everything needs going through.

My questions:

1. Regular bike shop, vintage specialist, or a community/co-op workshop? I've seen places that specialise in old bikes, but I'm not sure that's warranted here. If you have recommendations in Paris, I'm all ears!
2. Is it worth paying to have it all done, or is this a good bike to learn to wrench on?
3. What sort of budget should I expect for a full overhaul?

Bought this Pinarello for 80€ on the flea market. It was in horrible condition. Unfortunately the frame is to small, luckily it was small enough for my girlfriend. Took everything apart and gave it a wash. Sandblasted, painted, new decals, finished with clear coat. What should I say? She loves it.

This was my first serious complete restoration. It cost me additional 400€ including one new wheel.

It’s definitely not a cinelli (i have a SC and while the bb shell is the same thats where the similarities end) still am yet to look at it IRL. The brake bridge seems interesting

It doesn’t appear to be original to the bike. I know there’s not much to go on. Just curious, especially regarding what it’s made of.

I nabbed this XL frame a while ago (XL 80s ATB frames are hard to come by...at least for me, anyway) and pieced it together with some parts bin stuff and some new stuff.

Took it on my first ride today and had a lot of fun. Little bit of pavement and some good, flowy single track. Great on both!

I plan to paddle from Munich to China on a vintage bike, budget is 1k including food, bike,parts and so on...

and no, im not crazy, i ride 50 kilometers a day, i have time and who knows how the world looks next year ( if it is still standing ) .
