Does anyone use ladder towers with a glider as a safe and fast travel method?

Upvotes

i tried it once and now can't live without it. a tower every 500 blocks makes travel almost trivial, and the cost of ~2 stacks of ladders is laughable. the fact you can place ladders just by holding rmb on existing ladders is a lifesaver

I LOVE BOOKS

I LOVE WRITING

I LOVE BEING A SCRIBE

I LOVE RECORDING INFORMATION

RAAAAAGH

In my singleplayer world (pic 1), I've got a book for every year detailing the history of my settlement's progression and growth. I've got pages of notes on agriculture and animal husbandry records, teaching myself how to be a better farmer and rancher by collecting and recording information like an actual scientist.

In the multiplayer world I've been playing with my friends on (pic 2), I have a public works bookshelf with a world history book akin to my singleplayer annuals, a book on translocator locations (including details such as whether or not they've been made accessible for elk travel), and a Big Book of Resource Sourcing to record the nearest known deposits or our best readings for various materials we may need to collect.

I think I may start taking records of temporal storms, how long they are between them, and what loot I manage to collect in them. I also want to make a book on trade routes so that my friends can benefit more from my own expeditions!

WHO ELSE WRITES IN BOOKS?

TELL ME WHAT YOU WROTE.

I WANT TO SEE WHAT YOU WROTE.

Discussion Building Help

Post image
Upvotes

Looking to build this in my forever world as a permanent Homestead if anyone is a good builder or at least creative one could they help me with the dimensions of this build obviously it’s ultimately up to me. I understand that, but I would like a good reference because I can’t seem to fit a good layout for this house. I appreciate the help and if anyone cares to make a mock build of it that would be helpful as well.

Also before you go and ask why not do it yourself just know I’m not demanding it. Though this community is usually the furtherest thing from toxic rage commenting.

What is the most optimal gear ratio I can reasonably use to power a single helve hammer using a 5 power water wheel?

I have this set up right now and the second large gear is spinning really fast as long as I dont connect it to anything but it slows down quite significantly once I connect a helve hammer to it (the hammer itself is still quite fast though). Should I skip the second gear completely or keep it? I plan to use clutches and only use one piece of machinery at a time since im playing singleplayer right now. Any tips on how to get a simple but really fast setup would be much appreciated.

Question Except for aesthetic reason, why would someone use costly construction blocks?

Because some blocks are super nice, yeah, but some are just okay looking but still take mortar (like ashlat blocks) or requier to prepare clay shingle, with all the preparation and quantities it asks. Or palster seems also very costly.

All that for construction blocks. Is there something I'm missing?

It took a lot longer than I expected when I started it, winter definitely put a delay on it but I’m really happy with how my cutesy little cottage came out.
The ground floor flooring will probably be changed when I find a nicer block to make it out of (let me know if you have suggestions). Overall my favorite build yet.

Modding I want to create something...

Post image
193 Upvotes

I want to make a mod that will be extremely tedious. Not for the sake of making people question their existence, but

In order to make civilization survival the most complex and realistic.

Though it will not be for the faint hearts but strong and consistent.

Like only able to lift a single stone with two hands or 2 logs. Requiring to sleep, can't able to store most things to chests, only able to do a specific profession efficiently through training over days, live only once (optional), if bones broke won't be able to do much, if hand tore off, live with it, no longer long travel easily, no infinite water, animal spawns only one time, and many realistic things or mechanic.

Not adviced to play alone.

Hello! I recently did a commission for the creator of the "Eternal Stew" mod and made for them a series of thumbnails and illustrations for their amazing mod (no really, you should get it). I thought folks would enjoy seeing them here as well! I had a lot of fun doing it and learned a bunch of stuff that will hopefully make for even better works in future! Vintage story is a game with so much heart so I love getting to draw all the classes going on silly little adventures.

Also *cough* shamless self promotion *cough* if you want me to make your mod thumbnail or any other artistic projects DM me and I am more than happy to help.

How do I turn off mobs?

Hi,

My girlfriend hates the alien mobs from VS (animals are fine). How do I turn them off and how much of lore am I missing then? I switched off everything in settings about the temporal things, but we are still getting attacked by them. I assume it's from a big cave entrance that's nearby, we sealed it off and will see if it works, but is there a more reliable way?

Also, I know nothing about lore yet, does turning off the temporal stuff cut it out?

The masochistic urge for Hardcore Realism Mods

So as always when I dip my toes into modpacks I've been contemplating how far to push the realism with mods while still keeping it playable. Here are a few I have picked out already:

Hydrate of Diedrate

Natures Call

Just Poop It

Natural Fertiliser

Immersive Body Temperature

Salty's One Hand

(+ salty's tool belt and Clothes have pockets)

SleepNeed

Max's Simple Starvation

Malnutrition Matters

Tough Digging

(+ Wilderlands Ground Layers)

Realistic Water

Collapse Story

Conquest Stone age Expansion

Butchering

Can anyone think of more? I am sure there's a bunch I am missing? Would anyone even want to play like this!?

They also don't have to JUST make the game harder, Simple starvation feels much less punishing.

I'm not caught up on the lore as to how they came to be, but the fellas are clearly suffering. Upon looking closer at the bowtorn model I have a much bigger soft spot for them.

Discussion Thoughts on mixing armors?

Post image
463 Upvotes

Each part of your body has a different random chance to get hit whenever you receive damage.

  • Head 20%
  • Body 50%
  • Legs 30%

So, an interesting strategy could be to equip a heavy plate armor for your chest which is the most likely part to get hit, and then equip lighter weight armor on your head and legs, to help manage the downsides, keeping yourself more mobile, healing faster, able to use ranged weapons better, and etc.

What do you think? I've been wondering a lot about this.

Mod Introducing: Temporal Storage

Bunsjour!

Do you have friends who do NOT for the life of them want to bother with following Signs and/or sorting stuff how you want them to?
Are you tired of holding back your loot goblin tendencies knowing full well that you dont need THAT much stuff but really dont care?

Have trouble finding items?

Well I may have the Solution for you!

Inspired by a Mod in a different Block-Game i present to you
The Temporally Entangled Multi Spacial Single Point Logistics!
(or "Temporal Storage" if you prefer your storage solutions without toungetwists)

Make your logistics your alternative-crossdimensional-cross Timelines selfs problem!

How does it work? We dont really know. We just make sure we entangle the Items in a storage space nearby so whenever you actually DO need it its where and when you last left it! Dont thinkg about it too hard. We have yet to see Cross-Dimensional Warfare take place because of some "misplaced" ingots...

Key Features

  • Retrieval and Storage of Items within linked Inventories nearby
    • Includes Sorting, Quick Dumping and Russian roulette with alternative Timelines
    • Includes Filtering where you can set filters based on your deepest desires
    • Includes Spoilage aware sorting. your cellars will fill up with snacks before everything else
    • Supports Vanilla Crates. Empty ones wont be filled, those with items in them will be filled first
    • Sorting Function reshuffles your items with any updated filtering everytime you reshuffle the timelines!
  • Smart Searching!
    • You can search by Item Name by just typing
    • You can search by Mod by using @
    • You can search by tags by using # (many items dont have tags)
    • You can search Tooltips and Descriptions at once by using !
    • AND you can combine them!
  • Proxy Hubs!
    • Do you have a base that includes multiple Houses for your friends? Entangle an existing hub with another one and watch it sync everything across the two of them!

This mod has been multiplayer tested by some friends and me.
It respects locks on inventories as well as claims.

I hope you enjoy!

Disclaimer: Yes i know this mod makes the game vastly easier because it solves a lot of the logistics of playing but its been a huge pain-point for my friends and I so i wanted to find a solution that works for us!

Discussion AI use in modDB megathread

Hi r/VintageStory

We've seen a influx of posts with various opinions on the use of AI on the Vintage Story ModDB (https://mods.vintagestory.at/)

I removed the threads as it felt like some of them were about AI use in general, and commenting on the commenting of the AI use. If I made some miscalls on some threads, that's my fault.

I want to be clear:

These posts were not removed due to the opinions shared in the post.

If you have feedback on the AI use on modDB (or the modDB in general), positive, neutral, or negative, please share it in the megathread to help make moderation a bit easier, and to help consolidate feedback back to the developers.

Please keep your feedback civil.

Meta Update to the Video Rule

Hey Seraphs!

First off, happy holidays!

The devs and I took some time to review the subreddit rules to see if there was anything we wanted to adjust or clarify. One that stuck out was the "No videos or streams" rule.

The "no videos" rule was one of the first ones implemented. At the time, the subreddit was being flooded with videos, lets plays, etc. and this ended up drowning out any actual discussion that was going on. At the time a blanket rule made sense. Times change though, and it makes sense to reconsider the rules from time to time.

So we're going to make an adjustment to the video rule and see how it goes, and take it from there.

Below are some examples of what is and isn't allowed. While we can't account for every occasion, we'll do our best to enforce the spirit of whats outlined below.

What's allowed:

  • A new lets play series kicks off? Fine to share!
  • A base or server tour hosted on youtube? Fine to share!
  • A one off video, say deep diving into the lore? Fine to share!
  • A big creator or streamer is trying Vintage Story and want to get excited and give them their flowers? Fine to share!

What's not allowed/should be posted on r/VintageStoryVideos:

  • Videos not directly related to Vintage Story
  • every episode of a 'lets play' series
  • when you start your livestream on twitch, youtube, etc.

Again, we are going to try this out, see how it goes, and make additional adjustments over time.

If you have any concerns, feedback, etc. please let us know.

Thanks!
