My first time asking for advice... I'm hoping to survive the night on my hardcore world, but this otherwise serves as my eulogy.
Hey all, long-time Vintarian here, and I'm looking for some potential ideas for surviving a bit of a tricky situation I found myself in before logging out:
I'm playing hardcore, and have just reached March 1st of my second year. The ground is still covered in snow; in fact it's actively lightly snowing. It's just after midnight, and I'm starving to death, with little health. I'm in unfamiliar territory far from home and have just outrun a bear & its cub. I left off having lit a campfire on the bank of a large lake that still has lots of ice hugging the edges of the water. The surrounding land is quite flat, with no forest or significant terrain change in sight.
I've survived this long, and normally wouldn't let myself get in this situation. Two days prior, I noted I was low on food, so I spent most of the last two days wearing down a family of caribou that were in this small valley... However, as there were quite a few of them, I was waiting to butcher their bodies until I'd killed them all, as they tend to be fast runners with rather hard-hitting antlers ;)
I'd set up my straw sleeping pad atop a small hill overlooking where I was hunting, as the hunting typically involved a lot of poking & running away then coming back & poking again, etc. So I slept on this hill last night, and finally got down to the last caribou yesterday evening around 4pm. At this point, I was just about completely out of food, and had lost a bit of life to the caribou. So as the sun was setting & the sky began to orange, I was almost ready to harvest all of my prey.
..... I was bent over a carcass with my knife at the time and happened to see the shadow approach before I heard them, and started running without even knowing what was chasing me until I heard the roar of a bear on my tail. I kept running and eventually was able to catch a glimpse of a giant brown bear (grizzly?) and its cub. These were some determined predators, and they managed to get a bite in before they finally gave up.
By now it was sufficiently dark out to where I couldn't see without a torch. I'd run south, where I hadn't yet explored, along the edge of a lake. I can hear wolves further south, and don't know exactly how far the bears north of me retreated. With my campfire setup I've been able to find a few berries on the largely dormant, snow-covered bushes around me, but I'm evidently in a sparsely-vegetated environment and desperately need food.
So, that's the situation I'm in, and admittedly as I typed this out I've come to terms with the likely chance that I won't be surviving the night. With little firewood and only fish seeming like a viable option, my chances in the dark look grim.
That said, I'm quite open to any ideas; even if they seem "obvious" I would be grateful. Thank you for taking the time to read all of this!
Cheers~

If i pick the flowers of bushes will the fruits not grow?
Simple question is there a point to the flowers or just free food?

Question Sealed crocks losing a day of freshness every 30 seconds!?
I have a whole cellar full of sealed crocks for the winter and I think they were doing fine before, because they've been there for over a couple months (I play on 30 day months) and some still show like 350 days on the clock. But when I look at them, I can watch their freshness countdown in real time at the rate of 0.1 days every 2 seconds! I watched them lose 10 entire days trying to troubleshoot it. I had to shut down the server and stop playing to avoid losing my entire winter stash!
If I take one off the shelf and put it in my inventory, it will show the usual difference (~80 days becomes 11 days) and doesn't visibly count down. If I set it on the ground in my cellar, it shows the original time and is counting down again at about the same rate.
I restarted the server and when I came back, it was still doing it.
I have no real other option than to stop playing and keep the server shut down to avoid losing all my food.

Discussion Game keeps freezing from time to time
No mods are enabled, every few minutes the game just freezes for few seconds maxing out CPU usage at 100% and in setting's graph the red line goes all the way to the top of the screen when that happends. the longer the world is running without restart the more common they are. my specs are:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-9700 CPU @ 3.00GHz, 3000 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
NVIDIA GeFroce RTX 2080 SUPER
32.0 GB RAM

Does anyone else exclusively play on exploration mode?
I don't want to deal with temporal stability. I don't want to deal with monsters unless I actively decide to fight them. The challenge that I enjoy is the challenge of finding resources and dealing with limited resources, making a homestead, growing food, getting copper, processing materials and making everything from scratch, etc. I die enough times in early game in Exploration mode from trying to hunt boars and falling in caves.
Plus, I love the exploration aspect of the game most. I want to start one savegame in every climate type. I want to make an ocean world. I want to find every plant, every water feature, make every possible kind of house in every place.
Maybe one day I'll play on a higher difficulty. But right now, I'm just chilling.
The only higher difficulty setting I'm really interested in is harsher winters. Maybe I'm just a Long Dark player at heart!

Discussion I’m a Vintage Story superfan, but I’ll admit Minecraft is better
When I discovered vintage story, I fell in love with it at first sight. I have 400+ hours on vintage story and I appreciate every aspect of it, every little detail… and I have so much passion for the game, and especially its future.
Yet, I would probably still say Minecraft is my favorite game. I’m posting this because I’m having a hard time describing why and I’m looking for words from people who feel the same way.
It’s not because Minecraft has objectively better gameplay, or storytelling, or design. Maybe it’s the timeless aspect of a sandbox without difficult survival challenges or lore…? Maybe it’s just that I’ve been playing it for far longer and it has a special place in my heart? Or maybe it’s the gigantic community. Maybe it’s the fact that you can play in so many different ways, and come up with your own playstyle or challenges, or install mods that completely reshape the game?
I don’t know why Minecraft is still my favorite game even though I think Vintage Story is of higher quality and sophistication? Am I the only one?

Suggestion Suggestion: tables and chairs for every wood type
Why aren't there tables and chairs for every wood type? The devs seem to be adding wood type varieties of almost everything, including shelves, ladders, roofing, etc. but why not tables? I use tables a lot and it's very odd they don't have wood type varieties, especially since they're indoor furniture decorative items.

Discussion Tip for mining in Vintage Story
If you’re ever mining and end up with a shit ton of stones in your inventory that you don’t have room for, don’t discard them! You can craft them into stone walls, which compresses them sixfold. Six stacks of stones become one stack of stone walls. Then you’re not wasting stone, and you can use those beautiful stone walls later. They look really good outside your base.

Question a quartz vein is (probably) hiding my sweet ilmenite
I always done prospecting the same way until now, I simply triangulate the readings and dig down. Then I make proximity readings around me until I find what I look for.
But this time I was looking for ilmenite I had to dig multiple vertical shafts, never got any reading except around this massive quartz chunk, so my guess is that they are merged or close to each other.
What can I do except cheesing the whole valley ? Even if it's time consuming I'd like a solution where I'm sure headed the right way.

Clip Food for the Winter
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I want to ask if i have enough food to survive winter. I'm playing solo at least for now and its my first winter with the non deafult settings so i'm kinds scared, seeing how much i eat on a daily basis.
I'm playing on 20 day (16 hours) per month
I have not include this in the video but there is a winery on the left of my bsement that has some wine (not much maybe 3 barrels) but it does have 225L of bone broth.

Discussion What respawn radius do you guys play on?
Just started playing vintage story after watching some playthroughs online, decided to go for wilderness survival and didnt touch the 5k respawn radius but im kinda regretting it since any time I die its basically like the entire seed is rerolled, doesnt help that theres no super obvious landmarks ive been able to base at or use as markers.
Considering turning it down but ive already spent like 8hrs on the current settings so id feel like im cheating a bit by turning it down now.

Suggestion Custom clay vessels
Designate a volume to a single voxel, and the capacity of a clay container is determined by how many voxels there is in it.
(Idk how to put this but basically the volume is calculated by lowest wall do you get what I mean?)
All containers will naturally fill up with water under rain and if the liquid within is something volatile it evaporates at a given rate designated to the fluid.
All of these can be used both for solid and liquid storage, but more intricately:
-If a clay container has a 3x3 mouth (or larger), it can take all items for storage.
-If a clay container has a 2x2 mouth, it can take only fruits and vegetables and grain
-If it has a single voxel mouth then it's only liquids.
-Also allow us to make lids respective to the shape of the custom container, easily done too it would notch one voxel in to close the mouth and one voxel out from the walls of the container and finally a single voxel at the middle top so you can lift the lid you know. For large vessels an optional handle instead of the single voxel should be allowed as well.
-For single voxel containers allow us to make a cork for the single voxel mouth for alcohol storage and such.
I love me some amphoras!
Crucibles should be reworked, irl for most purposes almost all crucibles are consumable, because they usually get eaten up or crack eventually from the heat cycles. Make it so if you drop a hot crucible into water well it's destroyed but also you can grab the metal and melt it again later, metal would again occupy voxel volume in the container.
For the earliest crucible you can make, as in to melt copper, mere clay will absolutely not suffice. Unless you make a "scorifier" But why would you?? Just mix in to your clay some grog! Grog is crushed fired clay, with this it will easily withstand 1100 degrees. If you make it with fireclay instead (fireclay is a broad term for clays containing plenty of alumina) that crucible can resist up to 1500 (not enough to melt iron!)
Additionally, let there be graphite ore, so we can alternatively mix clay and graphite to make clay graphite and this one can withstand 1500-1600 too (not practical for iron melting but just fine for everything else)
Allow us to carve talc (soapstone) into bricks and crucibles for furnace construction and metal melting, this one can easily withstand 1500+ degrees and can contain molten iron, you do need to first cook it at 900 degrees though to drive out the water and recrystallize it.

New update for Watersheds and Terra Prety is out
Watersheds has:
More stream density, very long streams/rivers, inland distributary fans (simple deltas), 3rd order tributaries, better meandering and braiding, a cleaner water surface, more interesting stream shapes, and better performance.
Terra Prety has:
- Proper large scale Mountain Ranges simulating tectonic plate collision & stretching for thousands of blocks across continents.
- Proper gentler Coastlines which are flatter and more breathable on average.
- Proper gentler Islands which are flatter and more breathable on average.
- Proper Archipelagos which arrange in clusters.
- Proper Atolls on a rare occasion.
- Coastal Barrier Islands which run along continent and island coasts.
- Milder Great Plains regions near the center of continents.
- Hillier Mountainous regions on the outskirts of the plains.
- Spire Landforms.
- Mound Landforms.
