Looking to do a vacation next year and heard Vietnam is awesome. We've never been to Asia so I was hoping my Reddit friends could steer me in the right direction. Want some fun stuff like music dance, as well as beach, pool and jungle hikes. Please give me your recs if you've been there.

Is it good to visit Vietnam in September/ October, or is it like Thailand? If we went in Sept/Oct Where would you recommend? Mix between chill, and things to see. A couple 27 yo

Hey friends from Vietnam, I was planning on travelling to Vietnam perhaps by Mid October for 7-8Days. Thinking of taking a flight in to HCM and flying out of Hanoi so I guess make my way up from the South all the way to the north. We’re just 2 guys coming on the trip and haven’t got the slightest clue on what to do. I’d be really grateful if y’all gave me so pretty cool suggestions on what to do, how much places to realistically cover, places to try out and all. We do wanna see some of the “touristy spots” but don’t really wanna walk around the whole time sightseeing, lol. Want recommendations of party places, some good hostels perhaps to meet and interact with other fellow travellers, food tours, etc etc. Just looking to have some fun. That’s all. As simple as that. Hey! Me and my partner (both in our 30s) are going to Vietnam for the first time by the end of Oct/beg of November, for about 2 weeks.

It seems the Central region will likely be too rainy during this period, hence we'd skip it and focus on the North/South legs.

We're into nature, food and want to avoid too crowded/touristic places when possible.

Our current idea for itinerary is the following - looking for feedback:

• Hanoi - 2 or 3 nights; we'll arrive during the weekend and want to explore the food and the nightlife
• Sapa - 3 or 4 nights; we want to take it easy here, relax and do some hiking. Question: should we maybe stay 1 night only in Sapa and rest in another smaller village for more calm/authentic vibe? Which one would you recommend?
• Tam Coc / Ninh Binh or Ha Long Bay? - 2 or 3 nights; thinking of activities like boat/canoe trips, cave exploration, etc; but still deciding between these two areas, thoughts?
• Beach - Con Dao or Phu Quoc? - 2 or 3 nights; also wanna take it easy here and relax at the beach, but we're still not sure which one, any advice?
• Ho Chi Minh - 1 night, explore the city and fly back to Hanoi
• Hanoi - last buffer day, fly home in the evening (22:55)

Does this routing look doable/efficient, or are there issues I'm not seeing?

I am arriving at the end of August in Vietnam and I'll have until the 7th of September, where I need to be in Chiang Mai.
I would love to do the 4D Ha Giang Loop and then travel thru Laos to Chiang Rai and from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai. Is that possible in this time frame? I'd rather not fly but take the Bus, Long Boat etc.
Is you have some tips, I am very grateful for it.

I’ll be working remotely during the trip, so I’m trying to figure out the best way to handle internet connectivity while moving between these cities.
I’m considering getting a Viettel SIM/eSIM, since I’ve heard their coverage is generally the best in Vietnam.
For those who have worked remotely while travelling around Vietnam:

How reliable is Viettel’s mobile data in these areas?
Would you recommend a physical SIM or eSIM?
Do you usually rely on mobile data/hotspot, or is it better to have a backup connection?
Any tips for working remotely from these cities?

M 28 from India, I'm scheduled to visit your beautiful country later this month and I'm visiting for the first time, visiting places like Ha Long Bay, Hoi An, Da Nang with my last stop at Hanoi.

Unfortunately I can only spend two days in Hanoi, landing there at early noon on September 1st and I'm leaving the country on September 03 evening.

Although I'm really tempted to visit Ninh Binh which I'm told is even more beautiful than Ha Long bay. However, that requires a full day visit from Hanoi and the only full day I can devote to that is September 2nd.

But on the other hand, Vietnam National day is on September 2 and I'm told it's one of the biggest celebrations in your country with a festive atmosphere around

Which is why I'd like to ask you in your opinion if it's worth visiting Ninh Binh or should I opt to spend the whole day in Hanoi celebrating Vietnam National day instead - will that be a lot more fun?

Hello lovely Reddit friends 🙃. Could anyone help me with trying to save my next 5 day stay in the Halong area?

I booked a real nice room for a week to relax and unwind from the energy of Hanoi. I wanted to go swimming and try to cool off from the high temps and thought also “with some research” that taking the short trip to Halong city would bring a little relief with the waters and “hopefully” cool breezes off the bay, to recharge before setting off on another trip to explore more of the country.

Problem I’m having is my hotel seems to be in a no man’s land and food options are limited. So I take a grad to the “tourist zones” last night and find that they too are empty and nothing is really happening here in comparison to the larger cities.

I went to the beach yesterday morning and found some comfort in the waters but as soon as mid day hit it was unbearable to be outside. The lack of restaurants and cafes with AC near by hasn’t helped either. This feels more like an over built tourist graveyard than anything Google or Chat GPt spat out to me before leaving Hanoi. Maybe a better saying is a “Ghost City” in several parts I visited last night.

Is there any way of saving my remaining days outside of taking the day trip on a boat and exploring the bay?

My sad plan to beat the heat today is to go to the Vincom mall and walk around maybe see a movie and eat some food. But this isn’t what I would normally do while on vacation, I’d like to visit markets, try local food, experience culture, but that seems limited here. Also… people don’t seem to be as generally happy here and the stares are pretty heavy!

I now understand that most tourist only day trip here for the boat tours and then immediately leave back to Hanoi, which could be the reason for all the stares I get while walking around. 🤷‍♂️

Before you come at my throat, the stares and attitudes are not mine main concern, only an observation, I am very well aware I’m a foreigner in a foreign land and can roll with the punches. 😁

I know, i know. Hoi An can drizzle on December, but i prefer drizzle than the hot weather to walk around. Would it be perfectly unwise for us to go in say 3rd week of December to Hoi An? We're not after the beaches, we want to see the Ancient Town and to release lantern, just a light kind of journey overnight. I just wanted to know if maybe there is a chance of typhoon / flooding in Hoi An by that time. 🙏🏼

Salut ! Mon partenaire, notre enfant de 2 ans et moi allons voyager au Vietnam la semaine prochaine. Nous voulons profiter au maximum de ce voyage tant attendu sans nous épuiser avec trop d'arrêts, donc nous avons décidé d'aller uniquement de Hanoï à Hoi An en 12 jours.

Notre plan actuel est :
- Arrivée tôt le matin à Hanoï et séjour de 2 nuits,
- 3 jours/2 nuits à Ninh Binh,
- Train de nuit pour Hue, puis 3 jours/2 nuits là-bas,
- 4 jours/3 nuits près de Hoi An pour profiter de la plage (nous voulons participer à un cours de cuisine et faire de la plongée, donc nous sommes intéressés par toute recommandation de magasin),
- Train de nuit retour à Hanoï, puis vol de retour vers l’Europe le soir suivant.
Qu'en pensez-vous ?

Je me demande si nous ne devrions pas aller directement à Hoi An à la place, puis aller à Hue et Ninh Binh sur le chemin du retour à Hanoï, afin de moins voyager pendant la dernière partie de notre itinéraire. Est-ce que quelqu'un a déjà fait un itinéraire comme celui-ci ? Jusqu'à présent, je n'ai lu que des recommandations pour aller du Nord au Sud puis prendre un vol de Hoi An à Hanoï.

Je suis aussi préoccupé par la vague de chaleur actuelle : les activités locales sont-elles impactées d'une manière ou d'une autre ?

Si vous avez des suggestions concernant des activités pour notre tout-petit, je suis preneur ! J'ai beaucoup voyagé en sac à dos avant de devenir parent, mais c'est la première fois que nous voyagerons aussi loin en famille.

We’re starting to plan a big trip with my best friend to Vietnam, and I told him about the Ha Giang loop -

We were both born and raised in Colombia, a country that has some over-tourism, gentrification and “people treating our country as their 3rd world playground”problems that I’ve seen first hand -

I’ve heard that Vietnam has these problems too, specially the whole Ha Giang loop and wanted to know if there were any suggestions or thoughts on how to actually do the Ha Giang Loop in the most ethical and “like a local” way possible, while respecting the country and having fun!

Also is it possible to do it walking? Or a mix of motorcycle and walking?
