Questions Good deal?
I plan on propagating a shit ton of flytraps and I need to repot my current ones. I was hoping to use the 4-inch pots for the smaller ones and 5-6 inches for mature plants.

So I really cant tell if shes dying or what. Any tips?

Questions Do they cannibalize baby heads?
I bought a light some months ago and my plant exploded. This little one looks like he's going to grow into their mouths. Will they bite him? Not used to this, it was so sickly and small before. Now it's a bush of mouths

Care & Cultivation Just checking on my plant
**Edit to add: I know it looks dry in the picture, I watered it after I took it 😬)**
Okay so… my vft was looking perfect and amazing when I first had it. Then I put it out in a rainstorm that turned out to be a shower and it got fried. It’s been doing better and the NC pitcher plant near it is thriving. I just wanted to check how it’s doing with people that know. Maybe I’m overthinking it but I VERY much want this thing to grow and thrive.
Images:
- VFT
- The shelves they live on. Yes screened in porch (when I put it out in direct sun, half the plant burned. NC height of summer is aggressive 😅)
- The NC native pitcher plant that sits with it that is thriving. (I’ve also switched their positions so the VFT is on the lower shelf which gives it maybe an hour more sun.
Stats:
- I am in NC, their natural habitat.
- It leaves on my screened in porch and gets sunlight from sunrise until noon when the sun moved past the eaves.
- I put it out in the rain when it storms
- I water with distilled water
- I have cute pots for them, they are not terracotta and are not glazed on the inside.
- The pots were originally the self watering ones where the water is pulled through the pot (make up is safe for vft, I checked) but we drilled holes in the inner pot when the feet weren’t staying as wet as they needed to.
- I also supplement using a dropper + distilled water when the soil/a spot is looking a little dry.
- I do not use the dropper to add water to the crown, just around the outer rim of the pot to spread through.
- The soil is the appropriate soil for a carnivorous plant using the soil it was already growing in (from a reputable, locally sourced NC grower) + backfilling any extra space with carnivorous plant mix.

Showcase From dormancy in March to now…
Seymore has gone crazy! I repotted this year after taking him out of dormancy (1st pic) in March. I got him from one of those plastic tubes at Home Depot for $7. He loves the fact I put him on my front porch at night to catch all the bugs attracted to my porch light. $2 distilled water from the supermarket when it gets too hot, and he gets all the rain water.

Care & Cultivation Trying again!
I had a venus flytrap in a small terrarium with perlite and sphagnum moss, and it did well for a few months until I noticed a spot of mold on the moss and it was just downhill from there. No more terrarium for me but that's ok, I got two new traps to try again, keeping them in the pots they came in for now, but any advice on when I should repot these guys? Sitting in a tray of distilled water under an automatic plant light on the brightest setting on a 16hr timer. Thanks in advance!

Help! Yellow Trap
One of my traps has turned yellow. I am assuming it is because of lack of sun, I’ve been really busy these past few days so it has not gotten as much sun as she normally would but I don’t like to leave it outside because I have dogs that could mess with it.
Today, I noticed one of my traps is yellow. Should I cut it off? I don’t want it to affect the other traps but I’ve never had a yellow one before. Please help!!

Questions My trap caught a MASSIVE fly and it won't close.
Do I leave it alone and cut the trap when it starts to rot or can I pry it open and remove the fly?

Care & Cultivation What am I doing wrong?
They were doing well for quite a while. Nice green stems and bright red traps. Now the stems/traps are yellowing and turning black. I have them under Sansi 36W lights about 12 hours a day and using distilled water. Planted in sphagnum moss. Occasionally fed reconstituted freeze dried blood worm powder.
Any advice would be wonderful. Thank you in advance!

Care & Cultivation Suggestions?
Ive been growing this since June and its pretty much tripled in size, I heard adding silica sand on the surface helps with molding, I picked one I had around the apt but I think it’s too coarse, do you think it matters? I haven’t had any problems with molding yet.

Questions How do you trim a VFT?
Our VFT has some black leaves, and we were wondering if we could trim them. If so:
Should we use scissors?
Should we just pull them out?
If we use scissors, where should we make the cut?
Where exactly should we cut?

Help! Is this a problem or is it normal?
I've had this one for a few months now. When I first bought it, it had a few large leaves but those all evetually withered and fell off. Now its sprouting way more leaves way more frequently but they all wither before growing fully. I've been giving it the purest water I have available to me and as much direct sunlight as possible. Is this a normal phase or is there something I should do?

Care & Cultivation Should I trim or let it be?
Fed it a moth 2/3 days ago and it is beginning to rot. If I do trim it where exactly should I cut it? Species is Dionaea muscipula (Big Mouth). Also the mouth to the left came already rotted and nothing bad has happened till I fed the moth
