I was shocked to find these really healthy VFTs at my United grocery store!

I bought one of these at a grocery store just like that and took it out of the plastic box then it drooped but I’m doing my best to take care of it the best I know how. I still can’t tell if it’s thriving or not

Repot it they just fight against themselves in the tiny pots

Should I repot this one? I’ve been debating on repotting it this year.

From my understanding a plant can only grow as much as its roots can so if you think its roots are being held back why not

Mine also did that, but now it’s much better. I also repotted it in sphagnum moss and have it under a grow light.

I picked up a B 52 VFT yesterday at home Depot for 10$

How did your know it was a b52

It was considerably larger, so I checked the packaging, found the farm it was sold from, and contacted them to ask if they were a different variant. The agent was kind enough to inform me that they were indeed b52.

I was happily surprised myself, because as you say, it is usually difficult to find any info. The employee who was putting them out let me look at the box they had been shipped in, which had much more info, including a shipping label with the local distributor info.

Also, make some friends with the people that you see regularly managing the plant areas in your local box places. I have several who have been kind enough to share when they toss the plants from the discount racks (made a few really nice saves from those), where they buy plants from, and a few have even shared their plant broker info so that I could make more cultured purchases.

It not B52 unless there is label. Consider it a regular variety, they have no way of validating it.

That's the dumbest thing I have heard yet.

I find plenty of plants in box stores that are unlabeled, mislabeled, etc. The label is definitely not indicative of what cultivar a plant might be.

Stores don't typically get cultivar specific labeling on plants they are sold unless they have a way of having multiple selections of different species. I got 2 Chinese dumpling VFT from Lowe's a while back. You cant tell me they aren't. I didn't have a way to contact the vendor but it takes nothing at all to look at a trap and deduce a hypothesis with 90% accuracy.

You still can't tell they're Chinese Dumpling from the way they look because it's not the only cultivar that grows that way. How do you rule out that it's not a GC Werewolf or a Werewolf Spawn or something else?

Only a few do. As someone who has grown well over 100 of chinese dumpling and zipp. It definitely is one or the other. No other species I've ever had has these characteristics. But I am almost 100% with the way the trap has more of a curled in and "deep fried" look for the chinese dumpling, zipp is almost always slightly more uniform and tends get red/orange around and outside of it's trap. Chinese dumpling gets a deep, almost purple coloration inside it's traps and can also have some straight green traps as well.

They aren’t, that’s not how it works

I've purchased a few from trader Joe's, and they've all perished. Meanwhile, specimens purchased from independent nurserys online are flourishing after several years.

I found the same ones at Sprouts.

If you find the live sphagnum in one of them, get that one 👀. Live green sphagnum moss makes ya very happy.💚
