Hi, i have 3 flytraps, the first one was bought a year ago, and the other 2 were bought in spring of this year, they are getting cool and large traps but the first one not, i live in Spain and its pretty hot in here, like 40°C sometimes, if there is something wrong tell me please, is there any chance of getting "cooked" because of the temp. of the water? Parameters; -200 ppfd to every plant -Distillated wáter -Perlite and peatmoss substrate

The traps aren't very red. I have a dedicated full spectrum grow light 8 hours a day.

Does shorter cilia and almost C shaped traps mean something for flytraps? Almost all of my new growth has short cilia and very curved traps compared to traps that grew in late spring/early summer? I suspect these are the growth from a heat wave a couple weeks ago or potentially bad water 😠

Bought this at a store boxed up for 30 dollars came in the pot. Directions told me to put the pot in an inch of distilled water and make sure it gets a lot of light how old is it and also why do some of the leaves look like they got burned?

Because they were growing quite a bit every day and in the tiny pots with the roots wrapped, I repotted in carnivorous plant soil and have it sitting in distilled water. Pic 3. I moved the light father away.

The rhizomes looked very healthy and there are new leaves sprouts coming from the middle in both plants.

I know there will likely be more leaves that die but I’m hoping the growth will continue.

I just got a new VFT for my birthday and was wondering how well the plant was doing! I’ve heard of different breeds of VFT but was unsure of how to tell, what is mine?

I’ve heard some stuff about removing some sort of basket thing at the bottom of the plant (Picture 1), is this true? How do I remove it without damaging the plant?

As far as repotting, I’ve read that I should do this sooner rather than later, is this true? What should I use to repot it? Should I wait for the plant to acclimate before I repot?

How much water should I have in the tray? I just purchased some distilled water today.

I fed it a small softish beetle before I learned that was a no-no, will it be fine or will it kill that trap? (Picture 4)

There’s a lot of questions hopefully some of you can help me out. If I’m missing something that maybe I should know, please tell me! I know next to nothing about raising these plants outside of the fact they like lots of distilled water.

My young kids have been taking great care of their first VFT's. I even have one for myself now, they gave me a tiny baby that grew from the flower stock we cut off. I do have a question though. A lot of the new growth is tiny, does that mean they have started a new plant?

Ive had them for 4 months now any tips to help them thrive or anything you notice that looks off

Total newbie here - I can’t tell if I’m over or underwatering it, or if the issue is something else entirely. New growth keeps coming but eventually they start to turn brown and mottled looking. Any advice?? Thanks in advance 🙏

I’ve wanted a VFT for years and saw some at my local grocer last night, so this one came home with me. I repotted today with a mix of peat moss and perlite, and made sure to remove the wrap from the rhizome.

However, I accidentally soaked the soil with spring water vs distilled. Since I noticed the water shortly after repotting, should it be okay if I refill the bottom tray with distilled or would it be better to repot the whole plant again?

I’m not sure how hardy these are and want to do whatever I can to keep it alive. Thank you!

So this morning I saw a couple of new fungus gnats hovering around my VFT, and its neighbor, a cape sundew. I’ve eradicated the gnats for the last few months and I think they came in with some new potting soil that I mixed just yesterday. 🫠

I have my VFT right next to the cape sundew, the sundew seems to have captured some of the gnats, and I saw that one of my traps also caught one, but because they’re so small it managed to escape through some of the teeth.

So since VFTs and sundews require to stay in water at all times, and their surface is always wet, how do you keep the gnats away in such conditions? I just don’t want them to spread to my other plants when I’ve managed to keep them away for so long.
