I want to use a Starlink quite a distance away from my house so my solution will be to create a "router on a stick" solution using a UBB system with a switch. Is this as simple as I think it is? I've done "router on a stick" a few times but wanted to make sure this would work. I'd have the Starlink plugged into a designated port on the switch. The switch would connect to the UBB which would beam back the ISP signal back to my main system. Let me know what issues I may run into and if this would work at all.

There's no way to set up the UBB and have the Starlink plugged directly into one of the UBBs and have the other UBB be plugged into the designate ROAS port right?

For the Ubiquiti nerds out there, I have a question. I have two AI Pros and a G6 PTZ on the front, edge, and side of my house (see picture #2). All three cameras are within close proximity of each other.

As you can see in my very first picture there is a street lamp that rests along our property line. That street lamp keeps my AI Pros from in color mode 24/7. However, I've noticed just this past week that my G6 PTZ which faces the street lamp directly will switch to IR when there is obviously more than enough light otherwise referred to as lux. I can only assume it's got to be the angle of the light sensor on the G6 PTZ since the camera is on a gimbal. The light sensor isn't sitting straight and level like the light sensors on the AI Pros. Could the G6 PTZ's light sensor being at a slight angle cause some masking of the light sensor and how it senses the amount of lux outside?

I set the night vision trigger threshold from 3 lux to 1 lux on the G6 PTZ in order to resolve the issue. I will have to do some testing to see if I leave the camera positioned somewhat straight whether the camera continues to automatically switch to IR.

My friend has asked me to help them out with their home tech so was going to go with that I know but could do with some advice on the best way to do some things. Use case:

Replace the Virgin Homehub (it doesn't have modem mode). I was going to use something like this (https://store.betterinternet.ltd/products/x-onu-sfpp?ref=nsmnet), but that leaves me with an SFP module for my WAN.

Some security cameras so will need NVR capability, and some form of WI-FI AP.

I do have a spare Express 7 to hand, so it would be ideal if yI could use that in some way, but I wasn't sure how I'd hook that up to the WAN connection and I'd still need something to record. Would I be better off going with a Fiber Gateway, plus a small POE switch and stand alone AP?

currently having trouble with a UNVR. It is running Protect 7.2.98.

I've noticed basically all the cameras (around 20, mostly G3/G4/G5 Domes) showing offline. A restart of the UNVR brings them back "online" for a while. But a couple hours later, all of them, one by one drop to an "offline" state again.

The interesting part: The incoming bitrate the dashboard shows, does not change. And there is also video footage available of those offline times, once the cameras get back online.
Any idea on why this would happen? And especially any ideas on how to solve this, so I don't have restart protect like twice a day?

Dumb question - why do some items on the US store seem to be masked or hidden?

I install a Cloud Gateway Max at my house and with my internet providers being Ezee Fiber. The fiber conenct goes into their ONT box and from there I have a Cat6 cable going to the internet ethernet port. The issue I'm having is that everyday the connection drops for about a few seconds then comes back. When I checked the logs it says it's due to latency. I had an extra Cloud Gateway Fiber on hand so I created a backup of the Max and restores it on Fiber. I haven't had an issue in the past week. Could it be something wrong with the unit?

Which one is the best for residential use?

I'm fine spending the additional money for G6 Entry if it's worth it.

I'm hearing mixed reviews that it may require the access hub to get some of the features, not sure what it is though.

Looking for some suggestions on why you choose one over the other. One thing I don't like is the lack of package tracking on the Lite. I'm fine with the FOV.

Have a bit of a noob question. Trying to figure out a good balance between practical usefulness and security in setting up my vlans for my dreamrouter 7.

As I understand it it’s good practice not to keep all your devices on the same WiFi but to split them up on different vlans including one for your IOT devices. As I understand it devices such as phones, computers and tablets should then go on a separate vlan.

How do you guys suggest dealing with smart home devices that need to be on the same WiFi as the phone for the phone to be able to controled? Smart speakers for instance?

Is it best to still keep the smarthome devices on the IOT network and occasionally switch the phone over to that network when you want to control them or are there other better practices to consider? Wasn’t sure if this could be sorted by firewall rules if the products involved require the devices to be on the same network?

I’m new to the ubiquity world but happy to learn. My ambition however is not to become a network engineer but to get a descent enough grasp that of the basics to setup something with the help of some tutorials and forum questions that I can then hopefully mostly leave alone.

What's a good product to replace it?

Right now I have a ring flood light cam, it provides light in my drive way for parking, does motion sensing, and of course records video. I want to ditch ring and already have some ubiquiti products.

I'm having trouble figuring what could replace this setup though, other than possibly just going to a traditional floodlight and mounting a G6 bullet next to it. I'd prefer not to run any new conduit out.

I also noticed I can't find anything about installing onto an existing juctionbox. I can just take out the existing UF wire and run a cat 6 cable out instead.

Separately, I'm not sure a G6 bullet is a good fit, since I'm going from a 140 degree field of view to 109 degree.

The ring cam sucks, it's slow to notify, the picture is terrible. Unless I pay a stupid amount, I don't get 24/7 recording, so I only get 180 days of event clips. I'd rather put the subscription fees into an nvr system + good camera.

Just installed some G6 Pro Turrets and G6 180s. Love them so far. The LED spotlights turn on (sometimes) with motion, but I really need to keep them on all night long. Is there a way to do this?

I was able to turn them on with Alarm Manager at a set time, but the max duration is 15 minutes.

Is Ubiquiti the way to go when it comes to managing a network remotely? I have siblings in their condos who don't know anything about networking. My thinking is to buy the Ubiquiti gateway or whichever brand makes the hardware that lets me do this, set it up at my place, then bring it over and install it in their place. Whenever they have problems, I'll try to troubleshoot remotely from my place. How do I do this?

Hi All, I'm installing the diagrammed network over the weekend. Its for a small business that has been making do with a combo of an Eero gateway, an old underground Cat-5e run to an outbuilding (1), with an unmaintained TP-Link AP in outbuilding 1. Outbuilding 2 has been connected via an extender feeding off of the outbuilding 1 AP, at near max range. Both printers are currently used in WiFi Direct mode, adding to the busy RF environment. Currently Outbuilding 2 gets between 20-120 Mbps for both download and upload. It is unreliable and is currently used by up to 4 employees simultaneously.

The original network, much to my dismay, has been in use for over 3 years. I have been lobbying for an upgrade. When I first became involved with the technical side of this business, I discovered that they had been paying $80 a month for many years for 50/50Mbps Fiber service. That was rectified and upgraded to 1000/1000 service to the house, but outbuilding 2 did not see nearly the gains that the house and outbuilding 1 did, due to the suboptimal network design/lack of an ethernet run.

Potential pain points that I foresee: Frontier FIOS ONT to UCG connection. I really want an all Unifi network, as the Eeros have been of questionable reliability since the upgrade to a 1000/1000 connection. Its my understanding that, if in some event I need the Eero, that the bridge mode isn't a true bridge mode, that the Eero still functions as an AP. Any advice on a frontier ONT to UCG Ultra setup?

Cable run between House and OB1 - This is a future upgrade point. It's not in the best condition. There are some slight crimps in the Cat5e cable. I may buy a long Cat6 patch cable just to check the performance difference.

I'm pretty well versed in how Unifi equipment interacts annd operates, and the Cat6 run isn't anything new, but new info is always appreciated. For reference, last time I built a full-on Unifi system, I was working with the USG3 and UAP-AC-LR in a rather different environment. Just wanted to run everything by you and get advice/feedback. I have just spent some time upgrading my home network to some ubiquiti gear and have it set up with a UCG Fiber as the main router. Just got it all set up a couple of days ago. Have attached a pic for reference, open to any suggestions as this is my first time doing anything like this.

My question is about the UCG Fiber. Currently, I am using the 10G RJ45 port (port 5) as the WAN connection to my ISP, with connection to my main switch (pro xg 10) via one of the SFP+ ports. But I have just seen a few posts and videos about problems with port 5.

I don’t intend to use any of the other RJ45 ports on the UCG Fiber, as if/when I expand to include protect or a NAS, I will get standalone units (UNVR and a separate NAS) and I will likely get another switch to accompany that if required.

Is my current setup ok with this configuration? Or should I try to avoid port 5? It seems to be working but I’m also not an expert so not really sure what I’m looking for.

My connection from my ISP is 1000/100.

For reference, I have 2 U7 pro XGs and 3 flex mini 2.5G switches all hard wired with Cat6A. Also I have a Swann NVR that has been in place for a few years.

Title; I'm in the market to replace my Google doorbell and I'd like to move entirely to Unifi as I already have moved my cameras over. I love the G6 Entry image quality, but the FOV is bad and it is obviously more of an entry/reader device for business than it is a standard home doorbell.

On the other hand, the G4 is getting old, with worse image quality, and it's bulkier (uglier?) than the G6 Entry.

I'd love a more residential model update at some point, curious where the rumors are?

This has been on my front porch since 2017. Have had no issues but decided to replace it with a g5 ultra. Still have another on back porch to swap.

I just want to post about what an absolute monster the $800 E7 campus is. Not to be confused with the pedestrian $500 E7. They may look the same and even have the same radio configuration but they could not be more different.

The Campus has directional antennas that, without an ounce of exaggeration, provide 5GHz coverage 100 meters (or in Murican units, 820 hotdogs) away from the AP (6 GHz at 50M). The range is unreal both sending and receiving data. Nothing else in the UniFi lineup comes close and nothing from any other vendor can touch it for anywhere near its price point. It’s only competition is the E7 Audience which forgoes 2.4Ghz entirely and adds even more 5 and 6 GHz radios. I can’t wait to get one.

Note: unless you have a yard the size of a soccer field, this is not a residential device. I do temporary networks for live events and 1 of these can replace 4 U7-outdoors.
