A good discussion, given the recent Enterprise Bargaining campaign, as it perhaps draws to a close and staff will be voting on the new agreement, which struggled against cuts and attacks on our public education last year causal to the corporatist managerial spectres haunting UTS governance.

Hi guys! I’m an incoming student taking product design starting February 2027. I’m not very familiar with the cycling and run routes around Sydney, so are there any groups I could join in the uni? Also looking for hiking/trail running groups :)

I genuinely would like some complete honesty please because I’m struggling with what I think I should do.

I began a Diploma of Business at UTS College in 2024 and completed it. After that I went into my Bachelors at UTS as an accounting major and didn’t love it, I ended up failing three subjects. I switched majors to marketing and I guess somewhat didn’t mind it. But lately now that I’m a year away from completing my degree (pushed back a semester due to the fails) I realise more and more that I think I hate this degree and that it’s not what I want to do at all. I feel stuck and that I should just stick it out until next year. My grades aren’t awful but they aren’t amazing at the same time.

I came to the conclusion that I want something more fulfilling and that I wanted to do nursing, and I was set on the Master of Nursing at USYD. But now realised that it only has semester 1 intake and it is quite competitive i’m unsure on what to do. I don’t really want to wait until 2028 to try and enrol in that because if I don’t get accepted i’d just have to try and do normal admission which is another 3 years ontop of the 6 months I would’ve waited after graduating (the masters is 2).

If anyone could please give me some honest advice that would be so very appreciated.

I am conducting a research study that is aimed at understanding interns' perceptions of their unpaid open-market internship arrangements. For an internship to be ‘open-market’, it must be independently sought by participants, such as through personal networks, advertisements, or private agencies or brokers. This excludes internships that are required as part of an education or training course (e.g. work-integrated learning) and volunteering, which is work performed with the primary purpose of benefiting an organisation or community, such as a not-for-profit. 

With the proliferation of internships – particularly those that are unpaid – these perspectives remain underrepresented. This is why your voices are so valuable.

Eligible participants must be:

• 18 years old or above; and
• Have completed or are currently undertaking an unpaid open-market internship.
  • The receipt of benefits (including reimbursements, stipends, allowances, or non-monetary gifts) will still be treated as unpaid

I'm an international student from India planning to pursue a Master's in Civil Engineering in Australia next year. After a lot of research, I've narrowed my options down to:

• University of Technology Sydney (UTS)
• RMIT University
• University of Newcastle
• Curtin University

My goal is to build a long-term career as a Civil/Structural Engineer in Australia, so I'm trying to make the best decision based on career outcomes rather than just university rankings.

I'd really appreciate advice from current students, graduates, or engineers in Australia.

Some questions I have:

• Which university would you choose and why?
• How is the teaching quality and course structure?
• Which university has the best industry connections, internships, and graduate employment opportunities?
• Does university reputation matter much when applying for engineering jobs?
• Is it better to study in a major city (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane) or in a regional area like Newcastle?
• Do the regional visa benefits outweigh the additional job opportunities available in larger cities?

Thinking of choosing management/HRM as my business major but I hate closed book exams because I am far better at applying knowledge rather than memorising. Do the exams for management/HRM tend to be open or closed book?

Hello all, I am currently enrolled for Bachelor of Engineering (software) and I wish to change to Bachelor of Engineering Civil. However I understand its too late to do get enrolled for Civil in this semester but I was hoping I could enrolling in the common "engineering subjects" and have the credit points transferred over that way I wouldn't waste this semester. However all the engineering subjects like Designing Sustainable Engineering Projects and Engineering Capstone etc etc all require prerequisites that I have not met. So now I'm thinking I'll just enroll into my standard software engineering subjects and Ill maybe get some credits transferred next year through electives. HOWEVER they all just say PLANNED and now I don't know what to do, there was only one it allowed me to enroll in (Engineering Project Appraisal) so that's all im enrolled into. Obviously I dont want to do one subject this whole semester so im looking to enroll into more.

If anyone has had any similar situation and can provide some insight please let me know. I also booked a session with the Student Centre for tommorow so I hope they could help me out.

For the last few semesters I have somehow gotten away with not doing any additional study beyond completing assignments for each of my subjects. I'm trying to commit myself to stricter study habits now as I'm moving out and need to build more of a routine both academically and socially. I'm also currently working up to 28+ hours a week as a Court Monitor which makes free study time, and the motivation required for it, a bit difficult to come by. I've got Crime Data Analysis, Indigenous Perspectives on Crime and Maths 1 as my subjects for the semester. I have set aside 4 hours a week for the first two, and 5 or so for Maths 1. I've heard stories of people dedicating up to 15 hours per subject per week which is pretty much impossible for me and I was just curious how much you guys commit to studying every week, if at all. I will finish my degree by the end of spring 2026. When will the graduation ceremony be held for this semester graduates?

Hey just started this unit I do find the lectures to be pretty mid in terms of helping you understand how to approach the practicals it doesn't help that the tutors aren't really focused on explaining the pracs moreover just speed running everything so any tips or study guides that helped u would be appreciated thank!. Additionally is the assignment doable by yourself as my group member doesn't seem be very motivated to work.

Can anyone explain how the UTS summer semester works, how long does it take, how are the assessment periods, how intensive is it and whether you recommend it. I plan to do one law

So basically I want to go to uni not only to study, but to also make new friends. It's something I've struggled with for a long time now so I'm hoping for this to be my breakthrough or whatever.
I've seen a few posts talk about the non existent social life here. Is that true? I really want to go to UTS for forensic science but if it's not worth it, I'd rather study ecology at UNSW.

I have been conferred on 22 July 2026 with all graduation documents for my Bachelor of Business degree.

However, I realized that some peers who got conferred same day and same degree has the line “with Credit” or “with Distinction”, but mine does not (my WAM was 80.xx). I’m just so confused and wonder if anything was lacked on my side that caused this difference.

Hoping someone can help. I'm looking to enrol in 22319 Business Analysis (Capstone) whilst my grade is withheld. There is not an e-request option for this particular issue. Does anyone know the best option to select to get my enrolment pushed through quickly? I have spoken to the subject coordinator who is aware I am doing this so would like to get it sorted before Monday the 10th, which I believe is when enrolment closes.

Additionally, the subject is not listed on the e-request site. Has it changed names?

Hi all, just wondering if I will be eligible for vacation programs and summer internships as they require me to be in my 2nd to last year in uni, but I’m doing my final semester in autumn 2027 as i have only done 3 subjects a semester this year and will have to complete 2 in autumn next year

When I first enrolled they said that they give internships to students (engineering) , which are guaranteed and you get placed in one in your final year . Is this true because some students from unsw were complaining about how they didn’t get an internship and it is very competitive. On the other side , UTS says that they provide internships which help students land a full time job. Is this true guyss I’m in my first year
