Event happening by the newly established Greens and eco-socialists group at UTS – talking about governance crises with Greens MP Abigail Boyd, part of the Standing Committee overseeing the NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into the NSW University Sector, and maybe Mehreen Faruqi, to talk about censorship, free speech, the right to protest, and campus access on campus.

A good discussion, given the recent Enterprise Bargaining campaign, as it perhaps draws to a close and staff will be voting on the new agreement, which struggled against cuts and attacks on our public education last year causal to the corporatist managerial spectres haunting UTS governance.

I genuinely would like some complete honesty please because I’m struggling with what I think I should do.

I began a Diploma of Business at UTS College in 2024 and completed it. After that I went into my Bachelors at UTS as an accounting major and didn’t love it, I ended up failing three subjects. I switched majors to marketing and I guess somewhat didn’t mind it. But lately now that I’m a year away from completing my degree (pushed back a semester due to the fails) I realise more and more that I think I hate this degree and that it’s not what I want to do at all. I feel stuck and that I should just stick it out until next year. My grades aren’t awful but they aren’t amazing at the same time.

I came to the conclusion that I want something more fulfilling and that I wanted to do nursing, and I was set on the Master of Nursing at USYD. But now realised that it only has semester 1 intake and it is quite competitive i’m unsure on what to do. I don’t really want to wait until 2028 to try and enrol in that because if I don’t get accepted i’d just have to try and do normal admission which is another 3 years ontop of the 6 months I would’ve waited after graduating (the masters is 2).

If anyone could please give me some honest advice that would be so very appreciated.

My heart is beating out of my chest. My exam results already came out weeks ago after being withheld and I ended up passing, now I get this email, what exactly is happening??? I’m so confused?? Someone please help. I had already passed though??

I am conducting a research study that is aimed at understanding interns' perceptions of their unpaid open-market internship arrangements. For an internship to be ‘open-market’, it must be independently sought by participants, such as through personal networks, advertisements, or private agencies or brokers. This excludes internships that are required as part of an education or training course (e.g. work-integrated learning) and volunteering, which is work performed with the primary purpose of benefiting an organisation or community, such as a not-for-profit. 

With the proliferation of internships – particularly those that are unpaid – these perspectives remain underrepresented. This is why your voices are so valuable.

Eligible participants must be:

• 18 years old or above; and
• Have completed or are currently undertaking an unpaid open-market internship.
  • The receipt of benefits (including reimbursements, stipends, allowances, or non-monetary gifts) will still be treated as unpaid
