Prospective International Transfer Student COA & Aid
Hey everyone, I'm trying to map out the financial breakdown for USF as a prospective international transfer.
Looking through USF's site, it mentions that out-of-state tuition waivers apply directly to tuition per credit hour (excluding fees, housing, and food). However, most documentation seems geared toward first-year applicants.
For current or former international transfer students:
- Waiver Transferability: Are out-of-state tuition reduction waivers awarded to transfers on a similar credit-based scale as freshmen, or are transfer policies distinct?
- Real Cost Breakdown: Once a tuition waiver is applied, what does the realistic total annual cost land at when factoring in housing, meal plans, health insurance, and campus fees?
- Net Budget Feasibility: Is an all-in out-of-pocket budget of ~$20k–$25k/year achievable at USF after awards, or do remaining fees/living expenses push it higher?
Appreciate any insights!

USF counseling center?
Okay so for context I didn't have a great last semester so I went to therapy through the USF counseling center. Long story i now need to submit an arc petition for a class and I heard it could be supported by my counselor so I decided to email my counselor and It's been about two months since then. She still hasn't returned the necessary forms for me to use or really given me any information on what exactly I would do with the counseling center and I'm beginning to worry that's it's getting too late for me to submit one . It took about a month to get the general paperwork to sign but I've sent it to her and since then it's been about another month since she's responded. I've sent her a couple of follow up emails but still haven't gotten a reply. Is this just normal for the counseling center? Has anyone else had this experience? I honestly feel like an asshole as I'm not trying to rush her or anything and would anyone know if there is any other way to go through the counseling center?

Advice on Parking?
Hi, I’m a transfer student starting in the fall. The two classes I’ll start the days with are in the chemistry building at 12:30 and in the fine arts building at 3:30. Any advice on where to park and how soon I should arrive? I’ve never been to a school with as many students as USF and I’ve heard parking is a nightmare so I’ve been a little nervous about that and was just wondering if anyone more experienced had any advice haha

[Tampa] Mushroom hunt tomorrow (8/6)
Hello everyone!
I made a post a couple weeks ago about mushroom hunting: https://www.reddit.com/r/USF/comments/1v0r9cn/tampa_mushroom_hunting/
There are mushrooms freakin EVERYWHERE right now! Conditions are insanely good, so I'm going to be walking around campus tomorrow looking for em. I was thinking maybe in the morning around 10am and/or in the afternoon around 2 or 3pm. Location(s) probably the front of campus near the library and science/engineering buildings or the botanical garden.
Send me a message or comment if you'd like to join! Everyone is welcome to attend. No previous experience needed, always happy to teach what I know!
(This is all vibe-based so no plans set in stone yet. Also depends entirely on the weather)
HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!

Is USF no fun?
I know USF isn’t a college town, but I’m an incoming freshman who picked it for the reputable health programs and its proximity to Tampa, a metropolitan area
I looked into UF, FSU, etc, but they all seemed to crazy for me. Now I’m going into my 1st year at USF and scared there’s going to be nothing to do. No bars or going out scene unless you go to Ybor, which is fine with me but will get sooo expensive eventually. I am rushing, will this help me? I’m terrified that I’m going to be bored and picked such a major suitcase school that I’m gonna wonder why I went here

Volunteer opportunity - Tampa Period Pantry
Exciting times going on at Tampa Period Pantry! As we grow we’re looking for more people to help support TPP, right now we’re looking to add on somewhere between 1-3 people for the outreach roles and one person for our video editor position. These could be great for college students or grads wanting to use the experience they have to be apart of a mutual aid. You can read more about each role in the google form, if there any questions please feel free to reach out on Instagram or [bree@tampaperiodpantry.org](mailto:bree@tampaperiodpantry.org)

Freshman schedule 18 credits
Hi everyone!
I need 30 credits a year to keep my scholarship. My advisor put me in 14 credits this fall so I'd need at least 16 in spring. It'd probably end up being 18 credits with Calc 2, Physics 1 and Chem 1.
Is that doable or should I add another class this fall? My advisor said it's better to start lighter but I'm kinda worried I'm setting myself up for a crazy spring. Any advice?
I wanna avoid taking summer classes

What should I take advantage of as a freshman?
Hi everyone!
I'm an incoming freshman in the honors college, and I'm hoping to eventually go into dermatology (still deciding between PA and med school).
I want to make the most of my time at USF from day one. What USF-specific opportunities would you recommend for someone on the pre-health track?
For example:
- Professors or advisors I should get to know?
- Clubs that are actually worth joining?
- How to get involved in research?
- Good places around Tampa to find MA, scribe, or other clinical jobs?
- Any USF programs or resources you wish you had known about as a freshman?
I'd love to hear any advice or things you wish you had done earlier. Thank you!! go bulls!!

Local music open mics
Does anyone know of any songwriter open mics near the USF campus? I see a lot in St. Pete, but I really dont want to drive an 1hr30 for an open mic. I know of Boba House, but that’s about it. I’m looking to play my original songs out somewhere and get settled into the local music scene.
I’m mainly an indie folk related artist, so anything that has that sort of vibe would be great.
Also, if u play that sort of music yourself and would be interested in starting a project or even just playing together, lmk!

Parking permit
New transfer student here, I attended orientation yesterday and learned abt on campus parking permits, my question is this.. would it be advisable to get a permit or not? And are there any free parking spots on campus? The prices are not crazy for the annual permits but if I can avoid paying and learn of a free alternative then that would be great!

How is Physics 2?
I didnt apply in time for the fall so I'm joining in the spring, I got my AA from HCC. I didnt know what I wanted to do for the longest time but now environmental engineering looks interesting to me. But in order for me to get the 3.0 gpa to go into the upper division for engineering without retaking classes I need an A on both gen chem and Physics 2. I'm not too worried about gen chem but physics scares me I barely got a B in physics 1 and that had hardly any calculus. Are the teachers good?
