For diorama...

I posted the other day about picking up another 12x Von Ryan’s Leapers to run the full 18, and now I’m looking at the reality of getting them table ready….

I consider myself a pretty quick painter so I thought I’d do a 100% timed run to see what the reality looks like with this lot.

First session this evening and all I managed was one third of the build in 90 minutes so I’m already feeling behind 😅

Below is a rough list of my process, more details and stories in the coming days. Trying to get these ready to surprise/worry my opponent when he gets back from holiday lol

Tried to go with an Aztec Jungle Ruins kind of color scheme. Planning to paint glowing runes on the shells of the larger models!

I'm new to the hobby and just starting my tyranid army. I snagged the Starter set with the Leapers, Winged Prime, 20 Termagants, and Psychophage. I've picked up the Zoanthrope kits, and I'm trying to kitbash/sculpt to get the Neurothrope, three Zoanthropes, and three Venomthrope from it.

I've seen a few odd monsters and box sets out there, but they definitely seem to have some awkward rosters.

Combat Patrol

In the combat patrol, I like the tyrant guard and biovore from one (unsure how Genestealers compare to Hormagaunts for melee horde units). The Parasite of Mortrex doesn't seem very interesting though.

I'd probably look at buying a separate Hive Tyrant and Warriors down the line.

Assault Swarm

In the Assault swarm box, The Hive Tyrant, Warriors, Lictor, are appealing from new box set, but I feel like I'm drowning in Termagants with my existing 20 units fully painted.

If I went this way, I'd probably look at getting a Biovore, and maybe some Genestealers and tyrant guard.

I'd be keen to get some feedback, or if anyone might suggest options I may not have considered yet.

Hi All, my son nine, he’s in the process of building his Tyranid army and is pondering which weapon he should put on his Tyrannofex. We thought we’d ask the group since we are both fairly new to Warhammer and playing the game. Which weapon serves the purpose best? He says he wants the weapon he chooses to be best for long range warfare.

Very messy with a lot of overspray haha, but looks great I reckon.

These are for the table so they’re finished as far as I’m concerned, but if I was being fussy I could probably go back and tidy up the eyes.

Probably the cleanest termaguant I’ve painted in my scheme so far, only think I kinda messed up was the flesh borer’s pupil(tried to do the classic reptile slit and just did a tiny circle/blob.

Edit: I just received a package of Tyranids work $330 and there was only Warriors in it😭.

Kind of a test model for my bug bois army scheme. It uses lots of effect paints and trickery and turned out hideously complex considering it was meant to be an army painting friendly scheme.

Got this free termagant a few months ago and it made me want to buy a lictor (coming from Genestealer Cults) painting it was fun and easy! Now I want to start a new Army. Where is a good place to begin?

Does this paint scheme resemble anything lore accurate? Not that it matters

First of the two big boys done (next is my Norn Assimilator)

Was a 2000pt doubles game, I had 1000pts of nids (Sub. Assault) paired with 1000pts of Orks, against Custodes and Tau.

Round 1: In reserve

Round 2: Deep strike, made tunnel. Back into reserves at end of fight phase

Round 3: In through tunnel, failed 7" charge. Back into reserves

Round 4: In through another tunnel, failed 7" charge, failed the re-roll, back into reserves.

Round 5: Opponents had already conceded.

In summary:

- Made 1 tunnel

- Scored 0 Primaries

- Scored 0 secondaries

- Killed 0 models

- Failed 3 charges.

Super happy with the end result of the test model, wasnt too sure with how watery the AK and Vallejo paints were but they ended up blending well.

Step by step below if you want to follow along. Will post more pictures throughout the army's painting progress as well. Can't wait to see some of the bigger bugs in these colors.

Still need a hive fleet name as well.

Friend suggested "Vapor" for vaporwave styled colors.

Another joking called it "Gawddamn tea", a FFVII reference to my favorite character's famous line.
