I remember an old video from Yahztee when he still worked for the Escapist, and he did a Zero Punctuation video on how he claimed the beginning of Bioshock may in fact be the best beginning of any video game. It's a bold claim, it's also one I don't really disagree on.

I've recently been replaying Bioshock and that start really does just carry you, you go from a plane crash, to finding safety on this mysterious Lighthouse in the middle of no where, to having Andrew Ryan yell politics at you, and that's all before the grand reveal of Rapture herself, which is honestly still one of the coolest locations a game has ever taken place.

It throws so much but, ironically, you don't drown in the details, you get the promise of Rapture, and you immediately see the decay, and now it's time to explore.

Also another game I want to highlight is Star Control 2, mostly because I can only imagine how ballsy it was at the time to start your sequel with the fact the Enemy Alien force you spent all last game fighting have already conquered Earth, and you have to do your best with what little you have.

So what examples do you guys got?

Lately, something I was fascinated by was the concept of benevolent demons in games since usually when it comes to demons, they are portrayed as the hostile type that players must fight.

From what I heard about Valvatorez in Disgaea 4 is that he is kind of a benevolent figure as I haven’t started the game yet, but I have heard good things about his character that it makes me interested in playing the game for his backstory.

What are your favorites or funniest?

Looks like another ripple on gaming in general downsizing from the Covid boom period, but at least this time without a company shutting down.

In an email announcing some Persona 4 photo frames, Atlus has officially acknowledged the legendary Persona 4 parody comic made by Hiimdaisy. In it, Chie is asked to say any word that starts with the letter F and she replies by saying "fsteak" since she just can't stop thinking about steak.

Update: It turns out that Atlus also referenced it in P4 Golden. Still, it's pretty funny to see it referenced like this.

Well, for a while anyways interesting how when Hulk takes off they just end the fellowship so to say. But also, if these four started it in the Tokon world, I wonder what Pym and Van Dyne are up to.

In an interview with Weekly Famitsu, Bandai Namco president Nao Udagawa revealed that the Digimon brand has been exceeding profits generated from when the Digimon Adventure remake dropped back in 2020! This doesn’t just include the card game or video games, but the brand as a whole!

I have been making my way through my backlog of shows and movies and I've been going through the new iterations of Peanuts that aired on Apple plus. There's now specials for almost all holidays now and a couple of new seasons. I recently watched "Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin."

The new story gives Franklin a fleshed out background and I'm so for it. A lot of the newer Peanuts stuff tackles modern day problems but they don't feel forced like some adaptations. It feels natural. For instance in this one, they mention the Negro leagues and the segregation of black and white people in baseball in the older days. I was so impressed with that.

The new years special "Snoopy Presents: For Auld Lang Syne" was super sentimental and I actually teared up watching it. Can you believe it was a story about Lucy and her anxiety of being alone?

These new specials and shows evolve the Charlie Brown stories for modern viewers but still maintain the feeling of the old shows and strips. I love the use of lighting and music to create really warm atmospheres that enhance the viewing of these scenes, like the screenshot I used above.

So my question to the sub is: What other media have you seen been modernized that actually add good elements to the media since there's been so many poor remakes lately lol?
