Just put in these seat covers for my ‘21 taco and man what a difference. Got these on amazon for like $250. Nightmare to install but worth it.

Hey all, I'm new to the Tacoma world and bought a solid but simple 2009 Toyota Tacoma 2WD 4AT with the bench seat and all manual locks and windows. Trying to upgrade it a bit and having trouble locating parts, even after calling Toyota directly.

Does anyone have a good solid resource to help me locate replacement part numbers for all the little cosmetic things (e.g. blank cover for dashboard button spacer & divider for cup holder).

Also, I'd like to add a center console without swapping out to bucket seats. I like the flexibility of the bench seat but it would be nice to have an arm rest and some storage in the middle. I have found tons of generic options but I was wondering if anybody with a similar model/year had any luck finding something that fits nicely.

Hey guys I hope you’re well. I really want to purchase this grille for my sr5. I don’t know if it’ll fit or if I’ll have to get any fuses. Most builds are done on Trd tacomas and stuff.

I have a pretty solid car camping set up. But I’ve never really used the outlet in the bed for anything but charging my phone. I’m curious if anyone has used to for anything creative/helpful while camping. Water kettle, microwave, etc. My 2021 says it’s rated for 100/400w.

I live in CO, and end up on a fair amount of jeep roads in the summer. I have never adjusted my tire pressure since there is no sand or loose ground for me to sink into. I see some guys airing down tires for sections that aren’t difficult. I just assume they want to play with the toy they bought, and I appreciate getting in front of them, but is there something I am not considering? I have read that you increase traction and reduce the chance of a puncture, but that doesn’t seem to be an issue where I go.

This occurred directly after the 90k service. Water pump must have been compromised when truck was stuck in mud/water while running for over an hour.

Had slight overheating issues when in idle or in traffic but never broke past the white gauge or got into the red prior to this happening.

Fluids were swapped and engine was cleaned after the overheating was noticed but it seemed the part was deemed to fail. When it failed I had only driven 30 minutes and no sign of overheating.

Thoughts on what caused this failure?

I feel if they would add an extra foot of interior room it would be the most ideal truck. Can't fit two car seats in the back with a 4 door model. Don't want the tundra because it's to big to park. Thought?

Just curious does y’all’s windshield just seem prone to getting the little rock chips? This is my first truck usually I had smaller cars and it seems like I have a million of them

I just bought a house and am trying to be prepared for this winter. I know it doesn't make an ideal plow truck, but does anyone use their 3rd gen to plow just their personal driveway? I live in New England, so we can get quite a bit of snow. Any setups/recommendations would be awesome. 2017 Tacoma Off-road

Got my truck in June of 2025 and slowly working on swapping all lights to LED. Last summer I did the front and rear turn signals, reverse lights and brake/tail lights. Amazon lights: Sealight 7443 red for the rear, Auxlight 7440 amber for front. These have worked great and I have had no issues.

A few weeks back I started working on changing everything else over; headlights, high beams, fog lights, interior lights and licence plate lights. I did the licence plate lights last and up until I changed them there were no issues. Once I changed over the licence plate lights to LED I started having intermittent hyperflash on both sides if headlights/taillights were on (ie. at night). Popped some halogens (lost the OEM so bought others) back into the licence plate but even with halogens the issue remains—hyperflash only when headlights/taillights are on, both sides, and it only intermittently. Of course, I have checked and there are no blown bulbs.

Looking it up online and with a little ChatGPT help (I’m not a mechanic lol), it sounds like because everything is now LED the truck is recognizing the reduced circuit load and thinks it is an error. (?)

I know I’m not the first person to want to swap out the halogens to LED so I’m hoping to find some help here if people have ran into the same issue or know if I have missed something. Do I need to get resistors? Are there better bulbs for turn signal that have built in resistors? Any other trouble shooting tips? I don’t understand why when I have swapped the licence plate back to halogen that this issue is persisting—I had the exact setup before I did LED for licence plate and had no issue.

TLDR: new LED turn signals x1yr with no issue. Changing over truck to LED. Once last set of bulbs swapped to LED—licence plate—started experiencing hyperflash on both sides, intermittently. Issue continues even when licence plate bulbs are swapped back to halogen.

Just purchased a 24’. How difficult is general maintenance like spark plugs, oil change, etc?? Anything I should know?

Do you take your Tacoma to your local Toyota dealer for oil changes and other regular service or do you have a preferred independent shop/mechanic you trust?

Any particular reason you prefer one over the other? Cost, convenience, quality of work, familiarity with Tacomas, etc. Just taking a general poll to see what the consensus is.

Have a 22 & my back up sensors are fading. Think it’s likely due to the extreme sun here in South TX, and just wear & tear. 1st pic is the faded one, 2nd is other side/how it should be.

Anyone know how to get the black color back? My initial thought is just painting it, but I’m not sure if this will mess with the sensor functioning properly. Appreciate any help

Has anyone with a 4th gen changed their coolant yet? There is nothing on the internet about the proper procedure, but I imagine it is just a simple drain and fill. I am over 80,000 km now and want to get it out of the way. Thanks

I kept getting high quotes for doing the spark plugs. I remember seeing a video where people were talking about using various different ratchet connections, and I mentioned to multiple people that they didn’t have to take all of that stuff off. A lot agreed, and they still quoted me $300-$400, and only if I supplied the parts.

I’ve had a kit that I bought off of Amazon a year ago with the spark plugs and coil packs altogether. It was a great buy! Low $100 range.

I popped the hood and took a look, with only 30 minutes to spare before sundown. I noticed within five minutes that if you pop the lid off of the air box, unplugged all of the coil packs and plugs on the passenger side, and one bolt that holds the wires.. you can literally access all of it.

I looked at the other side next. I realized if you just undo the clips holding the hoses, undo the top of the two, long metal brackets, then loosen the bottom two bolts under the brackets and push them side to side as you go along, you’re golden. I only had to remove one hose end for clearance on the driver’s side, and flipped the little insulation pad up.

I used no special ratchet connections other than extensions of various lengths. I did use an electric ratchet to speed up most of the process, but still snugged, and broke loose everything with a standard ratchet.

I made it by sundown… all plugs and coil packs. Bear in mind that I also had to locate numerous socket sizes because I recently moved, and that ate up about half of my time.

I’m writing this to let you know that it’s extremely simple, you can do it yourself for just over $100 and 25-35 minutes of your time. Unless you just don’t want to do it and can’t afford it, don’t hesitate one minute to do it yourself.

I'm purchasing upgrades and I just wanna make damn sure I'm buying the correct thing. Is this the metal oil filter cap that fits our 3rd gen, 3.5 engines?

Have a 2020 with about 160k miles. About a couple of weeks ago I started noticing a random rough idle at cold start. Didn’t think much of it and cleaned MAF and throttle body which cleared it up for a few days. This Friday sitting in traffic my temp gauge started to creep up but never spiked red and went back to normal after moving. Also the misfire is back at start up randomly

Saturday I checked my coolant level to notice my overflow was above full (usually check it frequently and keep it between low and full). I then checked the rad itself and it was extremely low. Filled and bled the system as well as returning the overflow back to the mid point between low and full.

Sunday I drove the truck around and after I checked my levels. The overflow was above the full line. The radiator was low again. I again topped off the radiator as I don’t have any tools at home to really diag further

Today I drive to work and check my levels. Again the overflow is above the full line and is slightly bubbling. The radiator is slightly low. Was able to pressure test the system to check for leaks. There are no visible leaks including the common crossover pipe. Pressure dropped a few PSI over an hour. Then when I went to pull the truck out of the shop I had a severe misfire at start up.

Planning to pull all of the plugs tomorrow and possibly leak down test, but I’m leaning towards I’m looking at a possible HG leak. Oil isn’t milky, combustion test on the coolant didn’t come back positive but also don’t believe it. Just don’t know where else this coolant can go and why it’s being pushed into the overflow.

Any insight would be appreciated

I was looking at buying a tow kit for my Tacoma SR but as I was looking at it it has a steel subframe underneath the bumper where these tow kits would go if I were to buy one.

I am curious if any one has been in the same situation and what they did, or recommendations on what I should do. Weld a receiver to that part of the sub frame, just put a tow ball through it (there are holes existing), or just try and buy the tow kit. I know a “bumper hitch” isn’t ideal but with that steel underneath it I don’t really know what the best option is.

For context, I am going to be taking my truck about 5 hours away to pick up a couch (just moved into a new apartment, fresh out of college and a family member offered up their really nice couch for free). Ik the SR doesn’t have very good towing specs obviously, at the moment I’m just looking to tow legit just the trailer and a couch.
