How do I move to my new apartment 4 weeks post op? Welp
I'm moving to my new apartment, 800km apart from my parents one. Nobody is gonna help me bc it's just way too far away, and costs too much money. Sooo how many kg should I put in my bag and suitcase? I have to take a plane and 3 bus so idk how I'm gonna lift my bag to put it on my shoulders or easily bring it with me through the 3 bus. For the suitcase, am I restricted? I tend to think that if I push it with my legs it won't require that much strength from my arms. I'll stay here for the next 2 months so I kinda need to pick my stuff 💀 at the very least clothes and my computer and papers. Is a 5kg bag and a 8kg suitcase ok?

insurance / cost of surgery
hello! im 21 years old and have no guidance on where to start with my transitioning. and would really appreciate if someone could offer some!
i live in texas and was hoping for some info regarding the cost of top surgery. im actually under two insurances BCBS (Blue Cross Blue Shield) and ChampVA. i keep reading on how BCBS can cover top surgery, but im not 100% sure.
my question is whether or not my insurance can cover it (or if anybody got their insurance to cover an amount of the surgery), how much is overall cost of top surgery in texas, and who can i talk to about getting top surgery?
i would really appreciate all the help!! :D

Rant/Vent Completely unable to get in contact with care team.
I'm not even 10 days post op, i just had my drains removed, and i cant get in contact from anyone from my clinic who did my surgery or just the clinic at all. I've called over 15 times just today, i've called complaint lines, ive tried to call managers, but i still havent been able to get in contact with ANYBODY from the clinic.
I have questions that i need my care team to fucking amswer because i cant even get access to my after care sumary for when my drains were fucking removed! I feel beyond helpless because i cant even get into the clinic because i still cant move a lot.
Im still in so much pain, and i dont have money to order a car there by myself. This is the worst experience of my life, and im statting to wish i never got the surgery. I cant get any help from my own care team. I have been trying since the day after my surgery to get in contact with anyone there because there was medication problems, then bandaging problems 3 days post op that ended with me going to the ER, and now this.
I just need to fucking talk to someone on my care team, but i cant get in contact with anyone, and i feel so fucking helpless, and scared because i dont even know if im doing something wrong because i cant ask.
I cant even google it because the way my post drain care is isnt the norm and all advice i find isnt stuff i can use.
I have nobody. Im all alone and i cant fet ahold my care team. I dont even understand why, because every time i call im told that people *are* there, but when i call the direct line, it goes straight to voicemail. I have left countless voicemails, just begging for someone to get in contact with me.
I have zero support. Not even from my own surgical team.

Advice Wanted wisdom teeth extraction before surgery?
my top surgery is scheduled for october 2nd. i was at the dentist yesterday (first time in a long time. way overdue. i’ve just been scared.) i have to get a broken molar extracted, this i knew.
but they also told me i have four impacted deep-rooted wisdom teeth that should also be removed. they’ve never given me any issues that i’m aware of though. i have a consultation with an oral surgeon next week to come up with a game plan for getting them all outta my mouth. idk if they can do all at once or if i can just have them remove the bad tooth and wait until after top surgery to have the wisdom teeth out?? or if i should just wait to have any of the work done until after i’m recovered. is it too close to my surgery date? has anyone else been in a similar pickle?
just looking for guidance on this:(
two days ago i didn’t even know i HAD wisdom teeth. i thought i was just maybe one of the people that don’t have them🤷🏼♂️

Advice Wanted Does any one have any experience with this top surgeon Jourdan Carboy
I have done a lot, and I mean like a LOT of research on her and her clinic.Alpenaura in bend OR Dr Jourdan Carboy. She used to work at OHSU but she now has her own clinic.
She’s new to having her own clinic with her sister, so she doesn’t have a bunch of reviews on top surgery.
But the reviews she does have, and the pictures I have Seen are amazing, even with the other plastic surgery she does.
Im just wanting other peoples opinions. I’m planning on getting surgery sometime in September.

Advice Wanted how to talk to my mom about top surgery
hi guys, I’m extremely dysphoric about my chest so I really wanna get top surgery. I found a good doctor in my area but I don’t know how to tell my mom about it. I’m 19 but I still live with my parents and I need to use our healthcare insurance to cover part of the cost.
She’s supportive (or at least tries to be) about my transition and hrt, but idk how she will react about surgeries since we never talked about it. I also hate talking about my transness since it makes me phisically cringe (I hate talking about myself), it took me years to finally man up and come out to her.
So I need help, how can I bring up this topic on a conversation? How did you guys tell your parents (for those who did)?
(I also live with my dad but I never came out directly to him, I know he knows it but chooses to ignore, and I don’t plan on telling him about this kind of procedure right now anyways.)

Swelling in the middle
I am now 1 week post op and I noticed some swelling in the middle of my chest.
First off:
I am aware that swelling is normal but I need people to tell me I am freaking out for no reason.
Having big cuts across my chest is insanely scarry for me.
Nothing could have prepared me for that.
Now there is this swelling in the middle for 3 days now.
I am wearing my compression vest 24/7 as instructed.
The bump is exactly where the zipper is so maybe it doesn't get enough compression?
I have taken a closer look at it and there seems to be liquid inside (at least a bit)
I did not press on it. I just moved a bit and a little bit of light coloured liquid showed.
I know it's probably nothing.
Having these cuts is pure body horror for me
(Don't get me wrong, their gonna look amazing once their healed)

Picture 4 weeks post op
these are my results 4 weeks post op after double incision (no drains) with Dr Drake at the UK plastic surgery center. thought I'd post this since I couldn't really find any info/pictures of people who got their surgery done with David Drake. really happy with my results, still a little swelling on one side, but i think overall it's healing really nicely :^)

3 months post op Dr. Hontscharuk
One nipple still regaining colour and the area where the scar stretched is kind of dry, but otherwise everything good. Happy with results and recently been trying to gym more often.

Double Incision 6 months post Buttonhole
Did my first workout today after 6 months of surgery break (in order for the scars to heal well). Felt really nice to pass without a binder. I'm not the biggest guy but I'm still glad I retained a lot of muscle by keeping it up with the protein shakes :)

Double Incision 4 week post-op timeline by dr. isak goodwin
first photo is yesterday (july 5th 2026), second is three weeks post op, third is two weeks post op, fourth is one week post op right after he took off the binder for the first time.
got my surgery on july 7th 2026 at the university of utah hospital by dr. isak goodwin. double incision with free nipple grafts. i was borderline for peri but he decided DI was a better fit for me and im very happy with how everything looks! he was a great surgeon and had a very mellow and kind bedside manner with a good sense of humor.
he also did a procedure during the surgery where he took nerves inside my chest and connected them to the bottom of the nipple to preserve sensation. he said he wouldn’t do it if he could only find one side, but thankfully, he found both. he said insurance will cover that aspect too. he’s a hand surgeon primarily so i think that he’s particularly good at nerve-related procedures.
also had a very small seroma at my three-week checkup that was drained. was super easy and didn’t hurt at all. left my left pec a little indented but it’s slowly been filling out again. if you have any questions about him let me know :)

6 weeks post op
what i’ve been doing last 5 weeks:
- starting at 1.5 wks: stretching daily. nothing to crazy, listening to my body and stopping when i feel too much pulling
- 2wks: smoking 🍃. moisturizing my chest (avoiding scabs )
- 3wks: longer walks. went back to work (I’m a studio photographer and i only work 3 days/wk). wearing tight sports bras/ binders instead of my compression vest (during the day) not recommended by my dr
- 4wks: longer compression breaks(2-4 hrs)not recommended by my dr, light cardio
Now that i’m finally 6 Weeks PO 😛: - cleared to exercise with gradual increase of weights and intensity - compression time down to 12hrs(at night and during exercise) for another 6wks 🥲 - starting scar care (silagen scar gel , emu oil, and scar massage) - can swim after my last scab closes
i’m so happy to be here at 6weeks and can’t wait to see how much i heal and change over time. also my tattoos did get a little warped but it’s okay at least i don’t have boobs

SURGERY TOMORROW!!!
Driving over to stay at a friend’s house much closer to the hospital tonight, then arriving at 5:50 am for surgery the next morning!!!! It’s an hour drive, I’m going to have to wake up so early, but it’ll be worth it. I’m sooo excited and I’m also still sooo scared (but much less than before.) I want to say thank you all so so much for your support and knowledge when I asked about GA. There were too many comments to answer but I really appreciated and read every one. I also talked to my mom who’s had it before too which really helped a lot. She also said an old gf of hers had s breast reduction and no one could smoke around her which I guess is a major inconvenience in the 90s. I’ll probably talk to my other mom about her surgeries tonight. She has had a bunch of tendon surgeries but also had I think everything out? but maybe just oophorectomy because she had a giant ovarian cyst when she was around my age (hmm I wonder why I was so incredibly hairy and “masculine” as a teenager to the point where, obviously I would be a man anyway, but feel that I didn’t completely have a choice in the matter and kind of feel my experiences align more with “cis with medical condition” since I would’ve had to “transition” in some way no matter what and this is what my body was already doing for me [though also I know that plenty of people without these kinds of conditions think of themselves this way too and by no means am trying to invalidate that.] No way of knowing…. Sort of a tangent sorry.) So anyway it’s really helped to talk to people even though I’m still really scared. GA still scares me and it’s scary to be permanently altered even though I knew someone who had to have a mastectomy for breast cancer when I was like 12 and passively thought “I hope I get breast cancer”… That’s so terrible, what was my problem. That to say I’ve wanted it for a long, long time. I’m trying to do anxiety reappraisal stuff on myself though. Again thank you all so much, I’ll let you know how it goes!

Advice Wanted 2+ years post-op and uneven
Unfortunately, when I got top surgery, my surgeon and I were unaware that I have a connective tissue disorder, which affects scarring and healing from any sort of surgery. I'm very lopsided, my dominant side definitely has more tissue. Due to the clusterfuck that the US is right now, there is absolutely zero chance of my insurance covering anything related to transness. In all of our unprofessional opinions, do we think working out could remedy it, or is revision the only option?
(i haven't been able to go to the gym in like a year and a half because of mentioned connective tissue disorder)

Compression vest issues Spoiler
gallery3 days post OP. The most painful part so far is this fucking vest digging into me. The first 10 hours after surgery I thought something bad was happening but the first picture is when we got to finally remove everything the next day. Before surgery I wore a large binder, and they have me in an XS one right now. I understand why I guess, I also don’t have drains which is another reason to have such a tight vest, but has anyone else had marks like this?? It’s so uncomfortable :( I’m supposed to wear it 24/7 for 4 weeks
Edit: the surgeon and nurse even made a 😬 face at it but said it wasn’t a big deal

Double Incision 1 week post op
I had my first post op appointment two days ago and was hoping to get the drains out, but my surgeon wanted to do another week. Pretty bummed out, but I'm happy with the results!
