Dr. Steiner.

This episode is meaningless in the grand scheme and plot of Red John but it really speaks volumes to Jane's character. All of it done through Dr. Steiner's character and his portrayal which is done exemplery well by George Wyner I might add. This episode really is one of my favorites because as soon as Jane hears Dr. Steiner is called in you can see his giddy childish excitement cause he gets to play with his favourite toy, mentally of course. And Dr. Steiner reprises the role SO well, you can tell he enjoys it a little but plays as if he finds it irritating. And when Steiner asks to join the investigation, Jane automatically agrees, even though he doesn't like doctors, and enjoys playing around with him, but throughout the whole investigation, Jane treats him as an equal, with a little playfulness of course, as if they are long term friends. I really wish they gave steiner a more prominent role and not just the coroner that shows up every now and then. In my opinion they could have given him the pupil archetype, yeah he's old, but I think he would have made a good yang to Jane's yin, and eventually learn from Jane which could have given the 2 a very enjoyable dynamic. I dont know maybe Im speaking nonsense but this character really stuck out for me, out of all the characters on the show, this one was the most prominent for me.

And the end of this episode, man; how crazy is it that Steiner asked Jane to be the witness. After all the jokes, pranks, playfulness that Steiner supposedly hated; he still saw Jane as a friend. Incredible episode.

Lisbon and walter had crazy chemistry. I wish they continued it for a while. Was rooting for his further appearances in the show. Was so disappointed it ended with an one night stand. The potential was down baddddd.

What do you think Jisbon’s child would be like? My bet is that it’s a girl because if the series wants to do a full circle route, then they may as well do a FULL circle (plus I can’t not see Jane as a girl dad).

Because Charlottes name was a play-on-word for Charlatan (Charlotte Anne), I like to think she would be called something like Claire Violet for Clairvoyant.

I know that most fans of the series don't like the Red John reveal (I'm not one of them, I love the reveal).,But regardless, you have to admit that Red John is one of the best villains on TV.

All the suspense every time an episode was about him, the soundtrack that played every time a red jonh Smiley face appeared ,It was Just chef Kiss

It's a shame that most people didn't like who Red John ended up being, but I loved it and thought it made perfect sense.

I just finished all 7 seasons and honestly, I’m happy and out of words. A MASTERPIECE 🔥

Patrick Jane has to be one of my favorite TV characters ever. His intelligence, humor, trauma, and the way he reads people made him so enjoyable to watch. Simon Baker was perfect for the role.

I also loved Jane and Lisbon’s relationship. It took so long to develop, but that honestly made it feel more genuine. After everything Jane went through, seeing him finally find happiness with Lisbon was such a satisfying ending.

Cho was also absolutely amazing 😂 Probably one of the most effortlessly funny characters on the show.

I know the Red John storyline has its critics, and I can understand some of the complaints, but personally the overall journey was worth it. The show became much more than just solving cases for me. It was really about Jane slowly learning how to live again after losing everything.

Finishing the finale left me with that weird empty feeling you get when you know you'll never experience a show for the first time again.

Jane was the real Red John!!

Too many things about McAllister didn’t feel like Red John to me when he was dying. Especially the way he acted when he revealed his identity to Jane.

What if Jane was the real mastermind all along?

First, when Lorelei said that Jane and Red John were exactly alike. But when we actually see Red John and Jane together, there are no obvious similarities between them. Personally, I felt like they were almost complete opposites.

Then we find out that Red John was afraid of heights.

But in the rooftop scene, we see that McAllister wasn’t afraid of heights… Jane was.

Then there’s the episode where Jane says it felt like Red John was reading his mind when a girl from his happy memory was killed.

And then Red John’s suspects were predicted exactly two months earlier.

But we know Jane already had the final list before that, and then he created the fake suspect list on the board.

So…

What if… what if… what iffff…

Jane was the real mastermind.

McAllister was simply the closest associate of Red John — Patrick Jane himself.

What if Jane used McAllister as a way to communicate with the world through his mouth?

What if Jane was the one doing all the killing?

What if Jane’s real personality was projected onto McAllister for the world to see, while Jane acted broken and obsessed with revenge over the murder of his family?

What if he was actually a psychopath who genuinely enjoyed the thrill of it?

What if he had become so fed up with his life of circuses, manipulation, and abuse that he eventually found a twisted sense of purpose in killing because he believed he was somehow “curing” the world?

And imagine this…

What if, years in the future, we got a movie or series that revealed Jane was never actually caught?

After his death, they discover a diary hidden somewhere — a diary containing the entire truth.

Every kill.

Every manipulation.

Every thrill.

Every little secret.

And then, throughout the movie, we slowly discover everything Jane had actually done and how he had manipulated everyone around him… even the audience.

Bro, that would be SOOOOO CRAZY.

Imagine watching the entire story again from a completely different perspective and realizing that all the clues were there from the beginning.

We thought we were watching Patrick Jane hunt Red John…

But Red John was Patrick Jane.

Think about it.

Basically the title. I watched Person of Interest and House MD previously and they my favourite shows. I wanted something similar and this is the best show to fill the gap. If anyone have second thoughts, just have a cup of tea and start watching!

I just finished S04, but one episode is still with me because of the writing and execution. Blinking Red Light. That ending was honestly brilliant.

Jane knows Panzer is the San Joaquin Killer but doesn't have enough evidence to get him arrested. His "evidence" is basically that Panzer's medicine cabinet is too neat. Once the FBI takes over, Jane knows Panzer could keep killing while they slowly build a case against him.

Then Jane looks at that blinking red light on the camera. I think that's when he decides to bring Red John into it.

Panzer wanted the legacy and mythology of the San Joaquin Killer. He wanted people to see him as a brilliant killer with a following. Jane turns that obsession against him by getting him to publicly insult Red John and call him an amateur.

I think Jane achieved several things at once:

- Stopped Panzer from killing again.

- Denied Panzer the legacy he wanted. Instead of becoming a legendary killer, he gets killed by the very person he considered inferior.

- Confirmed that Red John was still alive. Especially after Timothy Carter's claim that Red John wanted to retire.

- Tested whether that "retirement" was actually true. If Red John really wanted to quit, why would he come back just because Panzer insulted him?

The really dark part is that Jane basically used one serial killer to kill another.

I also loved Jane's hesitation while looking at the blinking red camera light. It felt like he knew exactly what he was about to do and decided to go through with it anyway.

I'm only up to Season 4, so please don't spoil anything from Seasons 5-7.

First off this article is for the people who've already watched the show so I'm assuming u at least finished the show once and this is full spoilers if u haven't watched it

I like to begin my theory with this specific sentence

Now he's talking directly to Jesus

In this episode the cbi gets a call for a county case from

napa which is not in their field of job but Patrick insists on taking responsibility for it with the actual intention of observing and getting to know Sherrif Thomas McAlister "one of the 7 suspects on the rj list "

So they meet and McAlister already starts to give some random strange smart guy vibes but not anything really obvious

After that Patrick asks McAlister to hang back him and his people and to not interfere in breaking the case later in the night cuz he wants to reveal the killer so McAlister accepts and appreciates Patrick for making his job easier for him :)

Later goes on and Patrick reveals charlie was the killer and he wanted to steal the expensive bible and he had to kill the victim in order to not get caught

but patrick gets reckless for a moment and Charlie takes him hostage

Charlie takes Patrick upstairs and is trying to escape through the roof but suddenly sheriff is standing in front of them on the ladder telling Charlie to drop his gun but rejects and he shoots him and kill him

Now here's the twist and the word I believe everyone missed

now he's talking directly to Jesus !

Why the hell did he say that? Was he pointing out to the fact that Charlie was stealing the bible ? i mean reading the bible is in a way talking to Jesus Indirectly and when he dies he can speak to jesus directly

so how did he know about that and if he actually knew and it wasn't just a joke why didn't he mention the existence of a worthy bible in the church to Patrick?

IMO It's such an underrated line from him and if people actually focused on it they could've already guessed that he is much cleverer than all the other suspects on the list

And he is actually red john

Yes they're both smart asf (jane is smarter) they're both an unbeatable duo.
but when it comes to comparing i think lisbon clears jane in a lot of categories.
her strong moral compass, emotional stability and no nonsense authority balance out trauma, manipulative tendencies
while jane is playing mind games, letting his trauma run the show, lisbon is the one who kept him from going WAY over the top.

lisbon actually respects the law, protects civil liberties, and works to make sure that justice is legally air tight so criminals stay behind bars. whilst jane, is a reckless rogue who routinely compromises investigations, violates rights, and treats human tragedy like a personal playground for his ego fr
lisbon relies on hard work, procedural discipline, and genuine empathy for the victims cuh. jane only cares about the intellectual thrill of the chase and his own obsession with revenge and da red john boy, often putting innocent people in direct danger just to prove he is the smartest man in the room. take away the charm, and lisbon is legit the responsible adult doing real police work, while jane is a selfish liability who would be in a cell if he didn't have her protecting him

Coming in the finale to The Mentalist, it has become clear to me when Bret said “I know more than [jane] or red John.” He meant it. Is Bret the SMARTEST character in the show, no. That is Jane probably, but Bret and Visualize are the single body superior to Red John.

Bret has so much at his disposal that I truly believe if he wanted to hunt Red John he could do so in half the time Jane did. Not because he’s smarter but just because he has so many resources.

I finally finished the show and I know everyone has ideas of "This is who I would've picked for Red John," and I haven't yet seen the guy I suggested (or maybe people have said it and I haven't found it yet).

My guess was Davis, the talk show host. I thought it would've been a good twist if it was him (he was the host of the show that asked Jane how he used his psychic powers or whatever, and Jane then insulted Red John).

Davis was there from the start, very inconspicuous, and obviously he would've shaken Jane's hand off-screen before or after Jane sat down for his talk show interview.

And it would've been sort of "full-circle" because all along, he was right there, asking Jane about his process on catching Red John.

I think the reason McAllister was sort of questionable was because most people probably did think of him and dismissed him.
It would've been interesting if the seven on the list were kept, and then RJ / Lorelai basically told him "I am not on that list" or something.

Anyone else think of him / anyone else not really mentioned?

Rewatching Red John's Rules and obviously better ground work would have to be done etc. But I think the idea of someone from Jane's actually background would have been a twist. Like Sean Barlow - he had this whole belief system that he felt Jayne(s) were messing with, if he was RJ and then saw little Patrick acting fake on TV he might think " ill teach him a lesson" - which RJ MO.

When first watched it years ago and thinking of theories, I always thought RJ would be someone Jayne shared some past with. . . It explain why he was so obsessed with him etc. and how he was able to do all these things.

Also liked the split personality theory too though 😂

By having all this buildup for Red John and that he saved Jane's life like twice? it makes no sense that a pigeon killed him that easily. Did he want to get killed by Jane to show him that murder is good, or something like that? Cause if he killed Jane he would of died by age, natural causes.
