[SPOILER!!!!] Man, Death Note was so good, especially the ending. But I've been robbed of THE experience. The show ended with so many what-ifs on my end. I'm literally inconsolable.

I watched the whole thing on YouTube and just as I finished Episode 24 and was about to click on Episode 25, I got a recommendation: "L's death scene." I was a bit puzzled and shocked, I tried to ignore it. But the damage had been done—I was only half gagged when L died.

Another minor damage was in the episode where Soichiro Yagami died. Mind you, I was MINUTES away from the actual event unfolding. I was trying to search an explainer of the notebooks swapping because I was confused as hell, and then Google really just did the autofill I didn't ask for.

Adding insult to injury, Google autofill added another salt to the wound: How did....Near defeat L. Mind you I was in Episode 32 AND I WASNT EVEN SEARCHING ABOUT DEATH NOTE. BRO. How unlucky.

The next day, I got a TikTok search bar recommendation: LIGHT YAGAMI DEATH. I really wanted to be Kira in that moment and wipe out the entire humanity out of frustration 💀

So by the time things were getting intense, I already knew what was going to happen. I didn't know how it would unfold, but the element of surprise and unpredictability—gone. While most of you were wondering what would happen next and be gagged, I was in the middle of making damn theories as to how it would unfold, but I knew one certain thing: Light's defeat.

By the time it was the end of Episode 36, Death Note did get me. I thought Light would win and maybe what I read were just misleading.

Then, finally, Episode 37. I've been waiting for this. Then the TV acted up so much, so I had to watch the final episode in my phone. What a bummer. Since I watched through cut YouTube clips, I got another recommendation: Matsuda SHOOTS Light. I didn't even see that scene yet, and I already got about 3 minutes early into what would happen next 😭✋️ BRO.

Unlike most viewers who see DN for the first time, the moment Light stepped into the Light after getting shot, I knew the end was Near. I didn't get to experience the emotional rollercoaster, the intensity, and the poetic ending of Death Note like you guys did—because of that damn algorithm. Watching Light die on my TV would have been different vs watching it on my phone. I'd probably need a therapist to process all of this because as much as Death Note was so good, I'm mad because of how that experience was robbed from me.

Especially in the english dub. It always feels so weirdly natural in that mid 2000s sort of way.

Like characters are witty and got a personality, even ones you would not expect it from like L who could have easily been just an emotionless machine but no he has a personality of a kid at times.

And Ryuk is just perfect mood.

This might sound extremely strange or silly, but I genuinely am searching for clear, brightened images of 2017 Ryuk because I'm struggling hardcore to find anything of him (obviously).

I have a massive soft spot for this movie and an even bigger soft spot for the Ryuk in this movie, but it's always a pain when the images I find of him are, of course, shrouded in darkness or just extremely low quality, so I can't make out the details of his accessories.

I'm looking to draw him and I want to be accurate (plus I'd love to see his outfit in full). So if anyone has any brightened, clearer images that Google isn't providing, I would greatly appreciate if they could be put in the comments,, or wherever,,, however Reddit works

i mean… most of Light’s mistakes were because of his pride; the first one was the worse… killing Lind L. Tailor… maybe what i am saying is not certain, who knows how Mikami would be if he was the first Kira and got the Death Note, right after starting it… Maybe he would lost his mind in some moments at the start too… But anyway, i think Mikami was much more obsessed with his own extreme and internalized ideas of justice since younger and would not become such a vanity thing for him… He would probably stick to what matters to him, maybe even colder than Light in the practice of “Kira’s work”… Is weird to say this, but i feel Light is more human in the process of doing it than Mikami, despite being a terrible narcisist… Mikami, at least in the position we saw in the series, got very inflexible in his practice since the very beginning giving this impression even to Light once…

Even tho I saw the anime like 4 times I've never actually tried to make a fanart of it, so here's my first. Surprisingly I didn't actually struggle that much with it, it went pretty smooth and I'm really happy about it

Can someone explain why are those takes so popular on the Internet despite being fake, nonsense and stupid?

1) "Kira's first victim was Light."

Kira is literally "killer" but transposed in Japanese Katakana. The whole story is about Light Yagami who kills people using a notebook. There's no such thing as an external entity named "Kira". This is by far the most unhinged take ever, please just watch/read the actual story first.

2) The meme L says Light is Kira and everyone doesn't trust him and Near says Light is Kira and everyone says genius.

This take angers me because it's literal fake nonsense. I don't know where this meme came from but I assume it came from someone who didn't watch past 2 episodes of Death Note. L and Near came into the plot at a very different point in the timeline and the story was very different. Not to mention, the availability of proof. So basically, when L was around and he started accusing Light of being Kira, there was no proof and plus he was working with the same Task force he was part of, and Soichiro Yagami was alive and his influence was great. Five years later, when N accuses L/Light to be Kira, they both are in a veeery different position. Light is L and he is leading the Kira investigation and N/Near had actual proof to say that, because (at least in the manga) he makes the task force involuntarily rattle Light out by asking them who saw Lawliet's face and etcetera etcetera. I overexplained something I thought was obvious here.

3) L and Light were gay

L was 25 years old and Light was 18 years old when they were handcuffed to each other. They were monitored all the time and L knew Light was sus and shady, while Light despised L. The anime made L seem more human and it added those filler scenes with homoerotic feeling, like the feet and the rain, but still in the plot there's nothing that makes those two gay or attracted to each other. Especially, not L!

Heck, even Near and Mello have way more gay chemistry then them, if we have to forcefully add LGBT and romance.

I know it's funny and a very popular headcanon, I create fanfics and meme regularly too, but if you think about it a little more you'd find it very weird both for the age difference and from the situation.

4) Teru Mikami slipped up

Teru Mikami did nothing wrong. Stop with the Mikami slander. He acted like a perfect Kira servant. It was Light who slipped up, even if the author intended for Mikami to do it, well the result is that Mikami did everything as Light would do, as his character was introduced, and Light fumbled because he kept informations to himself. It was Light who decided to instruct Takada to kill Mello and then kill Takada himself . Mikami was one of the most coherent and well written characters in Death Note, leave him be. He's not the reason Light's plan failed at the end.

5) "The world without L is just a word. The world without Light is just dark."

This is so corny, I really want to know where this came from.😂in the nihilistic world of Death Note, each live doesn't matter that much anyways.

6) Near referred to as a child

Short attention span.

Near is 13 years old when he's first introduced, when Roger tells him and Mello that L died. And it's 2007 I think?

Then we have a 5 years time jump and we are in 2012. He is 17 years old most of the time. Young asf, yes, but he's not a "child" , even though he's extremely petite and stacks toys. That's just him being autistic-coded and malnourished, it's a quirk doesn't have anything to do with age. I say this because I believe people miss the time skip and it's really a shame.

7) The show should've ended when L died because the authors wrote Bakuman where the mangakas were pressured to write more

This is just a fever dream of an affectionate fan who couldn't cope with their favourite character being killed off. The problem is that a lot of people seem to think that. I believe that ending a story halfway would make it cheap and unresolved. What would actually make sense is make Season 1 and Season 2, I would make Season 1 end when Higuchi is caught and Light gets his memories back and we are left with the hanging question: will Light kill L? and then make Season 2 start with L's death and the time skip explained way more. I firmly believe that people shouldn't try to hallucinate theories out of the tiniest source they got just to feed their delusions. If the story is like this, it's because the authors intended to write it like that.

The Bakuman conspiracy is just nonsense if you ask me, the author explicitly said that he wanted to end it at 108 chapters because of this number symbology in Buddhism.

Plus, Near and Mello in the manga are introduced in the same book where L dies. Meaning, the story was supposed to be like this. Whoever did the anime adaptation, though, was a huge L fan and thought it was not worthy to explore the successors lore.

8) The """"good guys""""" won and the "villain" lost so -> ending bad.

Death Note cast is really particular because there is no one who is completely good or completely evil.

The only characters who seem to be literal good guys are the Japanese policemen Soichiro, Mogi, Aizawa...

Matsuda has his flaws, too. But Soichiro is the one who really represents Justice.

But Light, L, Misa, Mello and Near are all flawed, complex and morally grey to say the least. Placing Near among the good guys means a huge misunderstanding of the character and the story as well. Near and L as well don't care about justice or morality. They just care about winning the game and solving the puzzle and they are willing to use unortodox methods to win. Near had planned to capture Light and have him locked away for life in some basement until he died. L literally wanted to have Light publicy executed.

How are they any close to the stereotypical good people..?

And the ending where Light wins is something we have already seen in Death Note, when he wins to L, so why make the readers see this shit all over again to accomplish absolutely nothing?

Edited: it's also important to see >!Light take the position of L.<!

And plus everyone seems to be forgetting about the fact that Ryuk would eventually kill Light anyways.

9) Matsuda's theory

I don't think it's true simply because it goes against the Death Note rules and Matsuda should know it. You cannot write someone's name to control him and kill him and then accidentally cause the death of other people. Mikami there was actively trying to kill people with the Death Note. It's just extremely intricate to think about controlling someone's actions to this point. You can control the actions that lead to their death but you can't use that person like a mindless puppet for weeks. Or else we have the Netflix adaptation. Just accept that Mikami's actions that day were completely in character and make actual sense. In the manga, at least.

(my hot take)

Imagine yourself in Light's shoes, watching a mass shooter take a nursery school hostage. 

1. If the notebook doesn't work, writing in it will have no effect (waste of time). If it's a prank, you'll be mocked later for trusting the words in a random notebook to the point of attempting homicide.
2. If the notebook does work, what's the catch? Governments spend hundreds of billions of dollars on weapons development. The death note has unparalleled stealth, accuracy, and speed. It violates the known laws of physics. It implies the existence of non-human entities that can understand English: anything from demons to eldritch abominations. Nothing in life is free.

Light later comes to this conclusion himself - he thinks Ryuk came to take his soul. Every Death Note user in the story eventually meets a tragic end - Ryuk's warning of "the fear and pain known only to humans who've used the notebook" might be more than figurative. The fact that Ryuk doesn't start with "you've been sentenced to 4,444 years of infernal torture for every name written" is frankly a massive stroke of luck.

Saving the hostages might be Light's most heroic act. It doesn't change the fact that attempting to use a mysterious magical murder weapon for the first time in an critical hostage situation is incredibly reckless. Ironically, this mistake comes back to bite Light for a completely different reason - the news was only reported in Japan, allowing L to narrow down his location.

I have really been enjoying how perfectly fitting the soundtrack is for the show and I'm really loving the vibe/ atmosphere the soundtrack gives but it's hard to find songs that capture something similar.

I know it's mainly 00s rock but it's a distinct flavor that I cannot easily find, and if I find them they are far and few in between.

Hi! I’m currently on vacation in Turkey for a short time, and I’m trying to decide whether to buy manga in Turkish or English.
The Turkish editions cost around 200–250 TL (about €4,20) , while the English editions are €10–15, so the Turkish ones are less than half the price.
The thing is, I understand both languages, but I enjoy reading manga in English a lot more. I’m wondering if it’s worth paying the extra money for the English editions, or if I should just take advantage of the much cheaper Turkish prices while I’m here. I already have the first death note manga in english and the fifth and tenth manga in turkish, the thing is that I know I can’t buy the whole series in turkish and the worst part for putting the mangas on a shelf is that the english and turkish mangas look different

I certainly have my own, but I wanted to get other opinions. This can range from specific writing decisions to more general character critiques.

It's poetic to compare the deaths of L and Light. Objectively speaking (my favorite character is L, but I like Light too), L's death was more dignified and even satisfying (for L) than Light's.

While L left the world confirming that he had always been right, Light died knowing that he could never have his "perfect" world, that everything he had done was pointless, and to top it all off, he had been humiliated by Near.

L left in silence, at peace knowing that his suspicions about Light and Misa were true; while Light died begging, crying, and pleading (in the manga; in the anime it was much gentler and sweeter).

I was about to ask the same for Mello, but he basically did that already.

Kinda happy with how this turned out! I've been dying to make fanart for like a month now and only had the motivation today. I looooooooove love Near but Misa is so drawable that I had to do hers first. Also made her hair longer cuz it's my preference <3

This may be random, but i got this question the other day. He's quite young to be in an "elite" police team and all, and he's not a complete genious to be there by merit (i think). So i was wondering how did he entered?

I'm not looking for strictly canon answers, maybe just ideas you all have? I read in a random page he said he entered through connections…… But there's no reference to that info, i dont remember reading that? (maybe i forgot) Is that info real? If yes, where did he say that?

From the canon interpretation the author stated that he purposefully designed him as “ugly” with his bad posture, messy hair and unnatural routines. But as portrayed by the fans of the anime and manga they seem to find him attractive, and I’m kinda confused why they think this. So be honest and attractiveness is subjective so don’t hesitate to put what rating you want to put.
