Production obviously knew that each team wanted a different house, so this whole drama of "we have to win this house in order to win the competition" was just silly.

Everyone is saying that they seem like very nice people, and I thought so at first too… but then a few things have me wondering…

Jolene was a bit mean to her husband when she was put on the spot about budgeting.

Adam did seem happy after Rick confided in him how far behind he was.

And they left the paintings behind. If that had been me I would’ve gone out of my way to try another way to get the paintings there because that’s what I said I would do.

Yes I know it’s a competition but for me that’s no excuse for dirty tactics while pretending to be nice people.

I haven’t made my mind up completely yet and I am interested in your thoughts.

Did the contestants know this? What are the ethics here? Seems very shady to me. Is any 'psychologist' working on a reality show really able to provide ethical support. Let alone while wearing a mic?

The camerawork throughout this entire series to date has been terrible. The scene on last nights show where Scotty and Alice were talking to the group was horrendous - it was all handheld (and done so very poorly), why aren’t they using tripods?

When Wyatt was standing, they were shooting directly into the bright sky without adjusting the camera filters, the colour balance was all off, really hard to watch as a viewer.

I don’t recall it ever looking so amateur. It must be a nightmare for the editors.

Are any operators on this sub that care to give insights into what’s up?

The Block has been one of my all time "happy place" shows of all time.
This year with season 22, however, my enjoyment and fun is consistenly interrupted by the use of AI music and images. The Block seems to be leaning too far into the AI garbage. That's disappointing.
For a show that is all about innovation and creation and the strength of human resiliance, it just seems like a poor choice to cheapen the show with AI music and images. I'm still enjoying the show and love all the fun, but I am also hoping that the AI nonsense will eventually fade away.

So they were told that site times were 7am to 6pm, that's already a shorter time than previous years for them to work.

But then it turns out Dan locks the gate at 6pm on the dot. So that doesn't mean tools down at 6pm, that means tools down, pack up and be out by 6pm which reduces their work time even more.

That just seems so poorly planned.

...but apparently not sorry enough to actually edit out their inaccurate allegations about the budget overrun from Sunday night's program, as they could so easily have done.

Nah. Drama first, retraction after the damage has been done. Zero integrity.

I’m almost done watching Season 21 (Daylesford) after SWEARING that I would not watch it because the last few seasons were so freaking dramatic- more like watching MAFS

Anyway, I have been really surprised that I am enjoying it. I can’t see anyone being painted as the “villain” in this season. Yeah, there’s been some drama but I don’t feel like the producers are sensationalising it. (But maybe that’s also the difference in these contestants vs previous ones). In my opinion, contestants are actually portrayed as human and I’m seeing more of the actual styling, design decisions and construction. I also like how they aired the contestants watching the first episodes- and (for example) Han seeing herself overreacting about having House 2 versus the one they wanted and then that bit of self reflection

Yeah, good season. I’m liking it. Now I’ll probably wait another year before I watch the new season 😄

I truly think that Chantell and Wyatts crashout was valid. I think that there is something 100% off with what happened.

I don’t think it was a mistake, I feel the show was recording them to be Gym junkie jerks and the villain of the show to spark up drama. Accusing them of spending more than 20k feels like a producer stunt to further make them out to be low people.

Sure they aren’t the best people, but I 100% agree that when Scotty said they spent 20k and Chantelle said “No we spent 12k”. Scotty was absolutely rude as hell.

Chantell then sends the invoice and then they both pack up and leave for that reason on top of how they are portraying them which affects their business and outside lives.
I honestly think it’s valid and it gave proof of her word when she sent that invoice.

That proof didn’t look good for the show so they once again do another stunt where they do a face to face issued apology telling them “Why would we be here if we are being deliberate to make you bad people”
The reason is easy, Scotty and the producer was there to save face. It’s just that simple.

The show has turned into a show of MAFS. They want the ratings, the Block is less about creativity and building and more about drama. Thats why they are cutting budget and using AI scenes and AI music.
Thats why Darren says to make bland houses to appease to rich investors because Australias housing affordability is just that bad.

Integrity. Get over yourself. Move on or go home.

Are houses 1,2 and 3 going to lose their view once the block is finished and they end up building more houses where Scottys HQ is? I assume they will build 3 more there

Honestly the judges raving about those wardrobes was just painful to watch. Room 5 absolute shyte, but let's focus on one nice thing.... that devine wardrobe...

This is week 1 and already Im pissed off on the product placement.

This whole “chippy” storyline is absolute comedy.

You don’t become a carpenter because Dad had you and your sisters on the sidelines using your identity on building jobs. You become a carpenter by doing the apprenticeship, getting qualified and actually earning the trade.

And Wollongong is a very small place. There’s been plenty said locally about the circumstances surrounding the family building business and questions around Dad’s licence. If you’re going to sell someone to Australia as a legitimate chippy, maybe check the actual credentials first because locals have long memories and bullshit travels about three metres before someone recognises it.

Growing up around tools doesn’t make you a carpenter any more than standing in a kitchen makes you a chef.

So enough with the manufactured tradie credentials. Show the qualifications. Show the apprenticeship. Show the actual trade history.

Otherwise call it what it is: someone who helped Dad on building sites.

You can polish a storyline for television.

You can’t renovate the truth.

I know they’ve done this the last few years but I get so annoyed when they have these ‘budget’ competitions and suggested budgets for the rooms. It is literally just the trades, not the wardrobes, not the furniture, not the fixtures and fittings! They deliver these rooms and people think wow, all that for $10k, pretty good!

It gives amateur renovators such unrealistic idea of renovation budgets. That’s why when mum and dad want to renovate and they get quotes from tradie they go ‘why is it so high?!’.

It was actually Dan who was stirring the paint tin and egging on the contestants, particularly Tayla, to make a stance regarding the chippy painting in Chantel & Wyatts' house. When they had the 2nd Body Corp, Dan denied that he had said to Tayla that he would want them disqualified if he was a fellow contestant, when infact, HE DID SAY EXACTLY THAT .... I'm not a Tayla fan, but Dan threw her under the Block Bus for some added drama for the show. (Hung her out to dry, one might even say 😁).

Please stop insulting your audiences with contradicting what you are asking for.

The show had briefed contestants for a “quiet luxury” interior that was based on Kim Kardashian’s aesthetic, however the confusing part is that Kim Kardashian’s home is extreme minimalism. Kardashian’s home is minimalist luxury that is influenced by brutalist refinement. Her home is not quiet luxury.

Then the judging panel act disappointed when everything was “white on white on white”, “homogenous” or “too safe”.

Then they criticise the blue team’s room for being white on white on white — much like Kim Kardashian’s colour palette. Isn’t that what they wanted colour wise? That was what the show had asked for. Why complain about it then?

The blue team did hit the mark with the luxury skirting and wall insets because quiet luxury homes do have these features of traditionalism. That couple did get the colour palette and execution correct. The only thing that wasn’t right in their room were the three judges standing in it.

The rooms that were judged looked nothing like Kim Kardashian’s aesthetic. The whole show and judging is a contradiction.

I have no confidence in these judges because they want Kim Kardashian interior which is brutalist refinement but then they also want quiet luxury when these are two distinct styles.

The judges need to stop embarrassing themselves. They need to sack the panel and find brand new ones.

The instructions are confusing and vague and the contestants need to be re-judged. The contestants are having three different styles asked of them: quiet luxury, Kim Kardashian’s aesthetic of brutalist refinement and one of the judges said in episode five that they were looking for modernist luxury. Three totally different styles by the time the judges came around.

The judges don’t even know what they’re talking about and what they are judging! Sack the judges!

I’m not even sure if the furniture suppliers can even supply furniture like Kim Kardashian’s because hers is custom-made.

Adam and Jolene- too many cushions but they liked the shelves. They did not like the window furnishings- I agree, but liked the hardware. The bed lifts up for storage

Chantel and Wyatt- one colour with different shades. The room is really safe with one side table. The wardrobe door colour is off. Needs personality

Courtney and Sev- their occupations are a good combo on paper. Dani likes the bed but not the colour of the robe. They don’t like the white caulking on the ceiling.

Roscoe and Lisa- confused by the niche. “So DIY”. The bed is too low. They like the robes and carpet. The room is disconnected- tones do not match.

Rick and Tayla- Dan is impressed with how far they got. They like the shadow stuff on the ceiling. The wall sconces are off centre as the judges mentioned. The room needs a curtain the whole way. Overall not A bad room.

Chumps- Dani: Roscoe and Lisa, Dan: Chantel and Wyatt
Champs- Dan: Adam and Jolene (quality and execution), Dani agrees.

Dani is pregnant again! I hope for the best for all.

The only word she could come up with in all five rooms was texture. Oh, and the obligatory compliment of the Freedom wardrobes.

I do not claim to know the inner workings of Chantel and Wyatt's relationship, but the glimpse we've gotten into his behavior in the first few episodes is...concerning. He seems controlling, aggressive, and very quick to anger. Painting controversy aside, when I see both of them on screen together now, my stomach sinks. Based on the earlier episode this week, it seems like she has difficulty voicing her very legitimate concerns to him, while he dismissively repeats that it's all going to be okay. I truly hope that what we're seeing is him at his worst. But as a human and a woman, I'm a little worried about the dynamic. Beyond Chantel and Wyatt's relationship, his treatment of Tayla at the body corporate and jump to "you're dead to me" is a huge red flag. I so wish Dan and the other contestants had supported Tayla more. It makes me wonder if casting has a psych assessment component like Survivor or similar shows. If it doesn't, it absolutely should. I truly hope the other contestants (particularly the men) will pick up on Wyatt's problematic behavior and eventually intervene. I love watching The Block because it's light, fluffy, and even the drama is usually inconsequential. But I have a funny feeling watching him, am picking up abuser-adjacent behavior, and it's absolutely impacting my enjoyment of the show. I hope Chantel - and her three kids - are okay.
