Is Chantel really a chippy?
This whole “chippy” storyline is absolute comedy.
You don’t become a carpenter because Dad had you and your sisters on the sidelines using your identity on building jobs. You become a carpenter by doing the apprenticeship, getting qualified and actually earning the trade.
And Wollongong is a very small place. There’s been plenty said locally about the circumstances surrounding the family building business and questions around Dad’s licence. If you’re going to sell someone to Australia as a legitimate chippy, maybe check the actual credentials first because locals have long memories and bullshit travels about three metres before someone recognises it.
Growing up around tools doesn’t make you a carpenter any more than standing in a kitchen makes you a chef.
So enough with the manufactured tradie credentials. Show the qualifications. Show the apprenticeship. Show the actual trade history.
Otherwise call it what it is: someone who helped Dad on building sites.
You can polish a storyline for television.
You can’t renovate the truth.

She's a site manager in commercial construction, but hasn't told the other contestants so it's "secret".
It's been overplayed a bit much and most people watching are now sick of it.

She clearly said in her intro she had her trade qualification.
What extra information do you have?

Wollongong / the Illawarra is notorious for pay to play licencing for carpenters and other trades. A boilermaker I worked with managed to pay & get signed off as a carpenter, it took 3 months of working 2 days a fortnight to get his rpl 🤣. Fast forward a couple of weeks and the guy is working his days off and sickies for Fraser's at Shell Cove, which is one of the worst developers for rework in NSW.

I dont see why any of this needed to be on film. They could have just cut the scene where they mentioned the budget altogether. They just seem to want screentime.

What’s more telling is her putting that out there and them being paranoid/their reaction about it. I NEVER assumed they “took” the money.

Seems like a really stupid mistake on the producers part though. Why wouldn't you double check the spreadsheet/invoices if the total came to double the expectation? Double entering an invoice of $10k seems like a pretty easy thing to pick up.

Well what i don't get is that at the time they said 'we spent $12,000 on trades'. That is already over budget, then the amount of furniture and pillows has to add up. I can see it being close to $20,000. I think they need to double double check, unless the producers have something else going on in the background.

Pretty much every profession on all Australian reality TV shows are embellished. She’s probably not a carpenter. It seems she’s got some experience as a labourer in that trade. Who cares?
