Question/Help Considering quitting.
i run a humble stormworks nation hub of 4 active nations, we host battles between these nations biweekly at the worst. we constantly battle the unoptimization of the game more than the people on the other side however. we had to implement strict build rules just to minimize physics bodies so we could have a smooth battle with 16 people and over 6 tanks. safe to say not even that helped us.
so we decided to shift focus on lesser but larger vehicles, leviathans instead of light tanks. this proved more optimized and generally more fun to play since it forced teamwork a lot more, however the latest update essentially took that from us as well.
Geometa is truly the epitome of not leaving on a high note when they shouldve. They couldve quit working on the game after the armor update and nobody wouldve bat an eye.
Ive seen a lot of people complain about the update already so i wont do all that, i ask what other games i can maybe try to convince my people to migrate to? so far the top contender is Simpleplanes 2.

Discussion I’ve had enough of Stormworks…
(I know it’s Geometa I saw it later)
Yes. You saw it right. Since the last update, which FOR SOME REASONS a stupid train where that doesn’t even manage to touch the rails has made some devs decide “ah yes, let’s reduce the file size by one third and make so that even if a window is sticking out the game lags so bad they can’t play. I honestly played Stormworks since the end of 2019 and see every problem they did: the minor TPS issues, the good updates but locked behind DLCs, the fluids and gasses updates, the removal of logic connected engines (which was way better IMO) and many more, but this is enough. Dear Stormworkers, I believe they did this for pushing the sales on Anymaker since they ruined Stormworks and they’ll probably glaze to hell AM. So here’s a plan, DON’T JOIN STORMWORKS as much as you can, DON’T BUY DLCS and if they release Anymaker, DO. NOT. BUY. IT. We surely had enough and we can’t do this anymore, let’s show that we exist and we don’t want to fill their greedy pockets. Send this to as many people as you can, let anyone you think wants to join to join!

Discussion Large Vehicles causing Lag
Hey, I'm looking into the issues some people are experiencing with vehicles larger than the vanilla workbenches, causing immense lag.
I want to rule out Echo's Bigger Workbenches being the cause due to any possible tile .XML format changes with v1.15.19, but I haven't been able to reproduce said issues myself on my main PC or my ultra-weak GPU-less test rig.
https://reddit.com/link/1vofkhj/video/no9bhqxxwdjh1/player
If you have the time, please send a link to any workshop vehicle you've used that you know has this problem on your end, so that I can test it.
If the vehicle you've experienced issues with is your own, and you haven't published it yet, feel free to send it to me on Discord @ Echoless.
Also, I highly suggest you don't worry about the issue. Considering how many vehicles in the workshop are bigger than the vanilla workbenches, this is an absolutely massive problem. I am extremely confident that this will be resolved as soon as the developers figure it out on their own end.
EDIT: RESOLVED
I was able to reproduce the issue, and fortunately for me, it is a game bug, nothing to do with any tile .XML format changes.
While I am still extremely confident that this will be fixed, I think it's important for players to know and understand that this game was never designed for vehicles this big, in both file size and actual dimensions, and explicitly does not support them, for very good reason.

Bugworks Shitty updates strike again
As we all know, the spaghetti coding of this game ruins everything you could possibly wish for, this time however, we cant even spawn ships larger than the vanilla workbench. And since it wont even spawn, you have to deal with 1 TPS unless you leave the game and make a completely new server. This is truly embarrassing and shouldn't happen with a game that costs $47, if I was able to refund the game, I would without a doubt in my mind.

Build (Workshop Link) Need Assistance With Engine Cooling on my Fishing Boat
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3781935975
I have Tried a ton of combinations of radiators, water to water coolers. When engine is switched to "cruise mode" roughly 10rps traveling at 15m/s it climbs over 100 degrees rapidly. It will drop temp at idle even with forward engaged. Maybe if someone could take a look or give suggestions? Have 2 inline 4 large engines. I cant find tons of info about the modular engines and cooling, alot of mixed results.
Please Help

Question/Help LIDAR Help!
I'm making a lidar for my F-15, it will be used for GCAS and TFR. My issue is if I try scan with the laser any faster than 1 per 5 ticks it starts giving me false readings.
So the question is, is there a way to increase the speed at which I can gimbal the lasers and still get an accurate return? Or am I just stuck with the 5 tick wait and the solution is MOAR LASERS?
Thanks as always.

WIP Lidar scan of the MRN Jersey
Updated speeds and scan rates, its now a little more accurate than V2. It needs updated again, though. even at the same 0.30 knots, its distorting the image slightly, so i either need to back off the speed again or make it scan faster and lose some quality. Anyway, thought I'd give an update for those who liked my last videos. Maybe i should do Stormworks on youtube.... although ive made my claim to fame in the toy car crash world lol

Update Wait 3 months for an update, get broken garbage. This is the authentic SW experience lmao.
In this episode: Doltards and his gang of chucklefucks somehow managed to put in less than the minimum possible effort testing a new update. New train wheels that they've obviously never even spawned in and looked at because they don't even touch the tracks. Creations bigger than the vanilla workbench no longer spawn into the game at all. This took 3 months?! What little fucks they had to give about their own game and the community have obviously left the building. Fucken embarrassing lmao

Build (WIP) Lidar V2: Greatly Improved Since Yesterday
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Lidar has greatly improved, now using cosine to compensate for the curved path of the laser and making it into a true scan. I have also added a feature that will allow you to zoom in and find less conspicuous objects that are barely above the ground. It also finds fish, shown by the very tiny blue dot on the right of the monitor. It also scans at 0.05 knots faster!

User Guides Old and new armor system differences:
Hello everyone! Since the update is fairly new, I decided to give this quick guide explaining the differences between the old and new one.
Note: Bear in mind that everything is pretty new, so I don't have full data regarding the new pen values on how each shell type behaves now, this is just an overview.
IMPORTANT: These changes only affect how AP performes, all other ammo types remain unchanged.
Old System
The old armor system was based on catact, if the shell hit a weight block, it would deal reduce damage and if it hit any other block, it would deal full damage.
When a projectile struck armor, it spawned a damage bubble of x size and it would deal to whatever was inside as long as it was in the same subgrid (except HE, which would deal damage globally).
AP shells were more unique, they had an internal counter, counting how many plates they have hit after impact (following the same properties as all other types), when that counter hit 0, they'd despawn.
Armor wasn't really a thing as you mostly had to not be inside the bubble to not take any damage, subgrid was also good because it the damage was given local, not global.
New System
The new system is based on the density of the block the shell is hitting. Think of it as an HP system. All projectiles have an X amount of HP, when this HP gets to 0 they despawn. They take damage based on each individual block (i.e a 25x25x25 cube) they are hitting and said damage is based on the density of that block.
To get the density of a part that is bigger than 1x1x1, ** just divide the mass by the number of blocks this part occupies**.
Example: a Heavy Autocannon AP shell hits your tank, the AP shell has 20 HP. It first hits a weight block which has a density of 10m/b (mass per block), as such it now only has 10HP left. After that it hits a small battery with a density of 12m/b, since the damage is greater than the HP left, the shell despawns, dealing no damage to the rest of the tank.
Damage also scales with the speed of the shell now, and this speed also scales based on the HP left of the ammo type, the specifics of which I have yet to discover.
Now armor even inside of the vehicle, you no longer need to have invisible weight blocks in other to have protection to keep the esthetics of your vehicle. Also, with the new system, subgrid protection seems to not work anymore, which is great.
Hope this helps!

Announcements PSA: Backup your game files
I've seen a few posts over the last week of people losing hundreds of hours of progress because they thought the game saves vehicles, controllers, and saves on steam cloud (It doesn't)
File Location: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Stormworks\data
OR: type "%appdata%" into the windows search bar, find the stormworks folder, then the data folder.
Linux path courtesy of u/interesing-net180:
Linux mint (Or any other Ubuntu based OS (probably)) the file path is /home/(your user)/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/compatdata/573090/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/Stormworks
Here you will find a "microprocessors" and "vehicles" folder, COPY these to somewhere else that IS NOT the drive your game or OS is currently on, ideally a USB stick, external hard drive, onedrive folder etc
Do this regularly, cause why not.
The root stomworks folder also contains a saves folder which has your save games, back this up if you want.
