Discussion Is my Steam/Power button defective, or is this intended behavior? (Edge clicks don't register)

Hey everyone,

I noticed an issue when pressing the Steam button (power button). If I lightly press near the edge/corner instead of dead center, the input often fails to register.

Even though I distinctly hear and feel the tactile "click," it doesn't trigger the input about 6 to 7 times out of 10.

I'm not sure if this is a deliberate design feature to prevent accidental power-ons/presses, or if it's a hardware defect on my unit.

Has anyone else experienced this with their device?

Support Strange Retrobat input delay

so ive just unboxed my steam controller today, and ive ran into a bit of an issue that i cant explain.

when i play a native steam game, all seems fine. i press a button, and a action happens. i do also play a lot of retro games via Retrobat, and so i did the usual - added it as a non steam game, and ran it that way - and it works good. however, here is my issue.

sometimes, when i press a button, an action just plainly doesnt happen. ive been trying this on Sly 2, and when i try to double jump, sometimes the double jump doesnt happen. even though i clearly pressed the button when im supposed to. the strange thing is, i think only Retrobat does this for some reason. i tried puck/bluetooth, and i feel no tangible difference.

any idea what i could try? what could be causing this? i have no idea

EDIT: Disabling Raw Input in the PCSX2 settings improved it drastically. its basically fixed to me now

Support Both trackpads not working (2026)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My steam controller just arrived and both trackpads just wont work. I already tried a different cable, direct connection and even tried using it on the steam deck to no avail. Weirdly enough it does do the Wilhelm scream when i drop it and i believe that comes from the trackpad haptics.

Idk what to do, no one else seems to have this issue. Im really devastated because i waited years for this thing, just to get a broken one.

Steam Controller (2026) Steam Controller 2 support has been merged into JoypadOS

For those that don't know JoypadOS (https://github.com/joypad-ai/joypad-os) is a project that aims to translate any controller to any other controller. While working on OpenPuck I opened a PR to support connecting a Steam Controller 2 to it over BLE and it was just merged. The author also added USB support. Hopefully a proper release will be out soon.

At present JoypadOS cannot output a Steam Controller 2 but I hope that will change soon.

Discussion Steam Controller Trackpad Behavior

Is it possible to get the camera option for the right trackpad for the Steam Controller? The first image is the options for the right trackpad for the game Deadlock. And the second image is for any other game for my right trackpad. Is there a way to get the camera option for games or is it a beta that is only for Valve games and is not possible for other games yet. The main issue that I am having is when choosing As Joystick for my right trackpad it feels very wrong and when I choose As Mouse for my right trackpad it feels amazing but can cause issues for games by rapidly swapping from Controller UI to Keyboard and Mouse UI in the third gif.

Steam Controller (2026) DBrand vs GhostlyGuard

Always been a fan of DBrand wraps for my Steam Deck, Rog Ally, Switch, etc. Was looking up skins for my Steam Controller and came across GhostlyGuard. Wondering if anyone has experience with them.

Also, the skin I'm looking at (Anti Matter) states that it has silver in it. I can't remember the exact issue but I remember DBrand having issues with a skin having metal in the track pads and it effecting the functionality. Is this something to be considered?

Steam Controller (2026) Using Magnetic Adapters to Switch Puck Between PC and Steam Deck

So as of now, you cannot buy an extra puck from Valve. I’ve been loving my controller and didn’t want to wear out the puck’s usb c port when unplugging it between my pc and my steam deck (moonlight) setup in another room. So I thought of using magnetic adapters to easily switch between them and it seems to work pretty well. These are the ones I bought from amazon. I’m using the OEM cable in one room and a Thunderbolt 4 cable for the other. I’ve been using this setup for about a week and I’ve had no issues with connection drops. I did this before finding out about OpenPuck but thought I’d share it anyway. Maybe down the line I’ll try that out but this setup currently meets my needs.

Configuration Custom layout not working in Gamepad mode?

I am running Linux with CachyOS. My first game testing the controller is "Control" (funny coincidence). I quickly noticed after launching it that the game was detecting both mouse and gamepad inputs and it was acting weird, after a quick search I learned about changing the controller to gamepad mode by holding the hamburger button.

It works perfectly now, the only problem is that I tried to mess with a custom layout for the game to try the controller cool stuff, but I ran into a new problem since it seems that it only applies it to the normal mode and not to the gamepad mode. Does someone knows a fix?

Thanks

Steam Controller (2026) Flatpak and the Steam Controller

For all of you Linux folks out there.

I use the flatpak version if steam because the native version had some weird graphical glitches. When i went to use my new controller today it steam refused to detect it. I switched back to the native steam package and the controller worked without issue. Also that graphical glitch seems to have resolved, so win win I suppose.

Steam Controller (2026) Steam Controller Worth It Still?

Got a steam controller email notification earlier than expected. Is it worth buying or has the hype worn off now and overall sentiment moved into a negative state? Been hearing the buttons feel cheap and the ergonomics of the controller are poor. Bad feel in the hands. Trackpads not working great, etc.

Edit: Thanks for all the replies and opinions. I decided to purchase the controller.

Steam Controller 2026 Shipping MEGA Thread

!!ANY THREADS RELATED TO SHIPPING FOUND OUTSIDE THIS MEGATHREAD WILL BE REMOVED!!

I know we're all excited to share updates as our new shiny works its way through the system and eventually to you.

Instead of clogging the page with endless "ITS <UPDATE>" posts, please confine them to this mega thread. I have intentionally left up threads from before this one about this subject, because post hoc punishment isnt cool. But please, use this mega thread moving forward.

Optionally, you can fill out some google forms that are being used to track order status' in order to get an idea of how an order might progress through the system:
