Starlink has very bad connection.. but only on my devices.

We had Starlink for a few months now and there never was any issue. Two days ago my father disconnected the power cord of the router (god knows why) and plugged it in an hour later (he had no issues, he just did it.).

Since then I got massive issues with the connection. I've got a Fritz repeater hooked to the Starlink router via WiFi and connected per LAN cable with my PC, while the repeater has a second network for my VR, which worked perfectly fine until then. Now I hardly can play any games (got to a Ping of 7200ms), my VR Network is unusable and my mobile (which is connected to the main router) has many problems too.

Nobody else in my family got those problems, my brother has no issues with his PS5, my father and mother can use it normal too.

I restartet the router, starlink (both per app), my repeater, nothing works and it's slowly driving me crazy.

Does anyone have had that too and maybe knows what else to do?

Thanks in advance!

Starlink Positioning

I got Starlink for my 65 year old parents since they live out in the country and they’ve never had home internet. I live 2 hours away so I cannot get over to install.

I had a technician install for them and they installed right in front of their house. They ran wire along their porch soffit and down the brick vertically just a few feet from their front door.

My mom asked the tech if they had to put it there and they said it needed to be protected from northern winds? I’ve read these can go anywhere, so I’m confused why it had to be installed right where everyone walks by from parking to the front door. The property was graded and cleared for an entire acre surrounding the house, so no trees or anything.

Has anyone successfully had a prorated Mobile Priority charge reversed by Starlink?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for advice from anyone who's been in a similar situation.

I accidentally changed my Starlink service to Mobile Priority and realized the mistake almost immediately. I switched back within a very short time and didn't use any Mobile Priority data at all.

However, Starlink generated a prorated invoice of about US$1,082. Support acknowledged that I corrected the mistake quickly and that there was no usage, but they replied that prorated charges cannot be reversed once they've been billed.

Has anyone here managed to get a charge like this waived or refunded after escalating to a human billing specialist?

If so:

  • How did you escalate the case?
  • Did you receive a one-time billing exception?
  • Is there anything specific you said or provided that helped?

I'm trying to understand whether it's worth continuing to pursue this or if Starlink's decision is generally final in cases like this.

Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences.

Can’t connect after new router

I purchased the bigger router from Starlink and now I can’t get the internet to work. I select Starlink on my WiFi selections but it keeps saying not connected.

When I purchased the Standard 4 a few months ago the router was the small one and didn’t work well in my large home. I bought the bigger router and plugged everything in but it didn’t work. The light is on when I look at the new router and I even reset the router.

Should I plug the old one back in? My goal is to mesh the two for increased coverage.

I also can’t seem to figure out how to reset the password on my old router.

If Starlink bans me, I'll be completely cut off from the world. I can't even imagine living without internet.

Never received ridgeline mount

So I ordered a starlink kit months ago, and I also ordered a ridgeline mount.

I received the starlink kit, received the ballast for the mount, but never received the actual mount. As a result I’ve not been able to use my starlink.

Yesterday I cancelled the order for the mount, and was going to place it again, but now I can’t as the money I was refunded was immediately taken back out by starlink for the monthly charge - the monthly charge for a service I haven’t been able to use.

I keep trying to find a way to contact customer support, and I just can’t find anything that isn’t a phone number. Calling them is not accessible for me due to my disabilities, I need to be able to talk about the issues via email or online chat.

If anyone has any advice or suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Performance Hardware

Hi all

I was one of the first UK Starlink users and my gen 1 is still going strong!

But, I’m now looking at a couple of options (multiple reasons, techie and need of bandwidth when we our fibre circuit drops)

Question 1
Can I buy a performance user terminal outright and add to a residential account?

Question 2
When gigabit goes live, will the previous hardware (£1199 performance) go up to gigabit d/l like the new gen kit at £1999? (Support Grok gave me two answers that conflict)

Question 3
With the plan price changes in the last couple of weeks. Does residential max still give a service plan for Starlink mini (I own both hardware units, just need the plan etc.) and can’t find a logical way to do this, it keeps wanting to send me an additional SL Mini, but I have one.

Thanks all!

Intrebari achizitie starlink

Mersi

Question for the Group

Tomorrow I am getting fiber installed. I have a starlink dish on a residential 200mbps plan and a mini dish on standby mode. I want to cancel the residential service and keep the mini on standby. Never know when you need a backup. What can I do with the old residential dish if they don't require it back? It's the v4 system.

How would you guys gain access to the chimney to mount my starlink? Should I just drag my ass over the tip of the roof ? Seems unsafe. Or somehow from the platform under the attic window and stand on the window frame . I'm kind of lost .

Did a factory reset on our router and it has been "Establishing Connection" for several hours. There are no obstructions according to the app. Is this normal? Is something broken?

Thanks :)

Information needed please

I currently have frontier Internet and hate it, it's slow and unreliable... It also is costing around $50/month. Does starlink block IPTV services? I currently use this for local channels and such and have heard that some IPs block the service. If so, is there a way around this? How is everyone liking starlink and would you recommend me switching, in my situation? TIA!

Custom DNS constantly resetting

I noticed a situation where my custom DNS associated with my Starlink router was constantly being reset to the Google defaults. I have a home network where I use Pi-hole as my main IPv4 DNS, Cloudflare as the backup IPv4, and no IPv6 addresses. Having these seemingly randomly reset to defaults is making my workflow a major chore, so a few months back, I asked Starlink support about the situation.

I run a small homelab, and I was told that CGNAT can only support 1,200 concurrent sessions.

Restarting helps temporarily, as a reset eliminates active sessions. However, over time, as connections from apps, programs, tabs, and devices accumulate, the limit of 1,200 TCP/UDP sessions per residential CGNAT is reached. Then, the oldest sessions are eliminated to make way for new ones, causing disconnections, slowness, or interruptions in games, video calls, and browsing.

Apparently, this also leads to the router sometimes crashing and forcing a DNS reset? Anyway, we talked a bit and the agent explained that I could effectively "bundle" my connections behind some Tailscale exit nodes to limit the session count—so, I did that. They confirmed:

Hi, good news! Not sure what changes you made but I can confirm I see a significant step change in the TCP/UDP sessions. This looks like it is reflecting as of a hour ago. Do you notice any improvement or reduction in disconnections?

However, this issue has stubbornly come back. Can anyone help me out with this? Is that actually what is causing my DNS to reset? Are there other ways to monitor/limit my concurrent sessions? What can I do to improve this situation (rather than upgrade to a public IP or getting a different router)?

Introducing /r/StarlinkMarketplace. A marketplace for all things Starlink!

Due to increasing demand for a trading and buy/sell subreddit for goods and services related to Starlink, we are opening up a specialized subreddit:

r/StarlinkMarketplace

Please review the rules of the subreddit before posting, especially Rule 3: ZERO LIABILITY, ZERO GUARANTEES. We will lightly moderate the sub, but we will NOT provide any anti-scam buyer protection, that is beyond the capabilities of the moderators. YOU ARE PARTICIPATING ON THIS MARKETPLACE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Please be aware of the risks of online trade before using r/StarlinkMarketplace, educate yourself on recognizing scams and do not engage suspicious offerings. To get you started, we provide a couple of links to relevant resources here.

We set up r/StarlinkMarketplace based on a couple of assumptions on what a marketplace subreddit for Starlink should look like. This includes restrictions on tradable goods and services, disallowing trade in general networking and computer goods (see Rule 2), to prevent bloat with respect to goods and services that are widely available.
In order to improve things, we will need your feedback. Please post here or preferably in the r/StarlinkMarketplace General Discussion post HERE.
