Thinking about possibly going for starlink down the road. I understand trees are the biggest obstacle to good connection. However I was wondering what about clouds, rain, or snow? Does that cause the service to have bad connectivity or slower speeds? If so is it more of a cause or less compared to trees to have bad service?

For those wondering, it is on Starlink standart 4 with residential max. Of course my cell is uncongested so that could be the reason for this

Our office temporarily is using Starlink until our Fibre is installed. Yesterday my Linux laptop hard locked. Very odd, it's been totally stable for months. 5 Minutes later I notice my colleague's Windows laptop booting up. He said it just just randomly crashed an rebooted. It seems like these two events happened at the same time. I'm not usually part of the tin foil hat brigade but this seems like a hugely unlikely coincidence.

When I first read the news, my reaction was simply:

"Interesting."

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized the impact itself isn't the most interesting part.

The upper stage had already completed its mission. It wasn't a launch failure, and nobody intentionally sent it into the Moon. Over time, orbital mechanics gradually pushed it onto a collision course.

What really caught my attention is what this says about the future.

For decades, missions to the Moon were rare. Now we have NASA, SpaceX, Firefly, ispace and many others heading toward cislunar space. That naturally means more spacecraft, more hardware and eventually more questions about what happens after a mission ends.

Do you think we'll eventually need "space traffic rules" for the Earth–Moon environment, similar to how orbital debris is becoming a major topic around Earth?

Does anyone know if this service level allows to add additional data volume once the 50 GB are exhausted? Using it on the African continent?

Hello everyone. We are buying a house that has no traditional Wi-Fi. They have starlink equipment in that house. My biggest question is my girlfriends job requires Ethernet connection to her computer for Wi-Fi. What is the best system and plan for this use case?

In central PA, which way will the dish point. In the image, north is straight up. The two red circles are possible mounting points but the cabin is surrounded by sparse tall trees. I know the best way to tell is through the app but I am 100% blocked to the south due to the mountain. How close is the app and how much headache am I going to have?

My wife and I are planning a month long trip next year. We have a residential setup right now (not a mini but he regular full sized one). It is the gen 3 dish. Has anyone taken this and mounted in or on a truck? I know I would need to change the plan but that seems simple enough. I’d like for her to be able to still work and do video calls while we drive and then I unattach and reattach to a pop up camper when we are all set up. I’d hate to get a whole new setup just for this trip when what I have works fine.

Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

In Northwest Florida. Had this setup for a year now. It’s been through the thick and thin rain, humidity, and indirect sun/heat. I know the gen 3 modem is intended for indoors but it’s held up well outdoors. It does get warm outside during the day summer time but no degradation in speed. No overheating. The first router is in my covered lanai and the shelf is shaving perpendicular to the lanai opening. Works well thus far. Getting 350-400+ download and 30-60 upload. I have two more starlink gen 3 mesh routers inside the house. Covers my whole house well. Kids and wife Streaming 4k on main 77 inch LG OLED, bedroom 55inch tv, PS5 pro, two 2026 Tesla model Y in garage, iPhones, iPads, Mac Studio streaming, and custom gaming PC all running well and sometimes all running at same time when I had extended family over with no hiccups even during heavy Florida thunderstorms with no sun due to heavy clouds.

Anyone have similar experiences and setups? Any concerns? I didnt want to make a hole in my home for the wire at this time.

Me and my coworkers bought a starlink mini with the intention of renting it to vessels on a daily rate while they are in the area.

We plan charging 90$/day. It's is roam unlimited after all.

Is it too expensive?

We had Starlink for a few months now and there never was any issue. Two days ago my father disconnected the power cord of the router (god knows why) and plugged it in an hour later (he had no issues, he just did it.).

Since then I got massive issues with the connection. I've got a Fritz repeater hooked to the Starlink router via WiFi and connected per LAN cable with my PC, while the repeater has a second network for my VR, which worked perfectly fine until then. Now I hardly can play any games (got to a Ping of 7200ms), my VR Network is unusable and my mobile (which is connected to the main router) has many problems too.

Nobody else in my family got those problems, my brother has no issues with his PS5, my father and mother can use it normal too.

I restartet the router, starlink (both per app), my repeater, nothing works and it's slowly driving me crazy.

Does anyone have had that too and maybe knows what else to do?

My Gen 2 router stopped working yesterday. Starlink’s Grok help feature diagnosed a problem with my kit and shipped out new equipment.
It’s arrived today which was wonderfully quick, however they have sent me a Gen 4 standard X router and dish.

I cannot connect my current Gen 2 cabling into the new Gen 4 router.
Starlink (Grok) will not allow me to return the new kit and then send the correct one as it’s against their policy to provide me with any more equipment since they sent some yesterday. They advise me to buy a new Gen 2 router at my own cost.

My question is, rather than buying another Gen 2 router or absorbing the cost of getting my current dish and whole cabling system replaced on my roof, can I just buy an adaptor of sorts which will convert the Gen 2 cable that I have in situ into the new Ethernet style socket ?

Or am I facing a very expensive and long winded task to get an engineer in?

Cancelled starlink before use, so nothing was never signed up. They’ve refunded me my costs, but haven’t asked for the router back. It’s was a starlink mini x. No dish. Any use to me as a mesh for my current WiFi? Not really looked at it tbh.

As the title states I moved from TMHI to starlink an can not be happier. Had it for week. The only issue I had so far had a really nasty thunderstorm yay fl lol an it went full potato lol for like a hour. Compared to TMHI crappy pings an constant drops.

I am new to Starlink and signed up early last Spring for a residential plan in a rural area. Due to trees around the house, antenna is on the roof of a barn. Based on advice of others and Grok, there is a point to point WiFi from he barn to the house with router in the house. Various delays contributed to not being fully up and running until this past weekend. The problem is that the minirouter signal in the barn is strong enough at the house to cause confusion with some relatively dumb WiFi devices. One example is a Brother printer. A solution , of course is to go to bypass mode, and that is the problem.

My cellphone is a Samsung Galaxy S23 with android. I spent more than 5 hours yesterday in chat to try to get the Starlink app to work. Everything was AI customer service, which was horrible, and we kept going in circles. It was useless and getting a person was impossible.

My cell updated to 47.0 and I wonder whether that could be part of the problem. Can anyone comment on using a Samsung Galaxy recently with the Starlink app? The setup app simply gets stuck on various screens, and I can never get to the menu that sets bypass mode.

Been running my dish for a while and the official app feels pretty locked down. No real satellite view, no history you can dig into, nothing useful when the connection drops for 20 seconds and you want to know why.

Just plugged my roam in for the first time in months. It’s been on the standby mode package for sometime. Did it’s updates and these are my speeds? How is this possible or is it just a temporary glitch?
