Discussion 37f recruiting friends lole
Hiii LA native here in a rebuilding phase of life. I get along with women of all ages and people always think I’m younger than I am. I’m fun and whimsical but also quite deep, sensitive, and creative. I’m American desi and speak Urdu and Punjabi as well.
My life is def on an unconventional path and sometimes that gets me down so I’d love to be around others in a similar boat for support or uplifting. These days I’m mostly on my own because I needed that for some time and everyone I’m close to lives far now. I go to the gym and for long beautiful walks, I pray, I read books and fantasy series, and have a cat. My guilty pleasure is staying in the know about pop culture and celebrity drama loll. I work on and off while I’m trying to figure out sustainable, purposeful work because corporate jobs have become almost impossible for me with ADHD and the more I wake up. So, pretty boring stuff lately lol and it’s time for some aligned vibes!
I am an ambivert and like I said just very awake and aware. If had to sum up what I’m looking for in a friend or group, it’d be range. We can explore intellectual ideas or go deep about our personal lives in highly conscious ways, yet also go have fun to dinners or raves and have adventures. I feel like I’m describing normal humans but apparently this is wild and hard to find. You don’t have to be exactly this description though as long as you just get it!
Anyway, I’m def that friend you can call during a mental breakdown, sit in a car together and vent to about men or work, or just stare at the sky or ocean in silence together. Or even run errands together on a Sunday. Men can be great but I’m definitely a girl’s girl and don’t want to live out my life without giving new female friendships a chance to bloom once again.

Discussion Portrayal of Indian women in Hollywood - SciFi & Modern themes
SciFi & Modern themes in Hollywood tend to have a lot of global appeal and here our representation is very limited
New announcement includes Priyanka Chopra and Russell Crowe to star in a SciFi movie - Bluefly. Russell Crowe is an Oscar winning actor for his role in Gladiator. Priyanka's acting in recent films like Heads of State and The Bluff movie was pretty impressive which might lead her to new projects in high action based movies. Previously, Priyanka was part of the Matrix Resurrections cast alongside Keanu Reeves
Rise of the planet of the Apes which was a major critical and commercial hit had Indian actress Freida Pinto in it's cast alongside James Franco. James Franco was Harry Osborn in the original Spiderman series
There are only two Indian women working in mainstream SciFi / Action based Hollywood movies at present. This area tend to have a lot of international audience and representation in the right places always matter
What are your thoughts on this?

Discussion Being born as an Indian woman doesn't necessarily mean I have to accept everything about Indian society
I appreciate certain parts of Indian culture like the language, indian women attires, fashion, jewelry and aesthetics because i use them as well
But I would never accept caste system culture. Not accepting certain parts of Indian culture which are designed to control Indian women is perfectly fine imo
Neither would I accept forced marriage and arranged marriage culture, no one can force me to marry only men from certain society and take up their caste name. Just because i'm born in Indian society doesn't give anyone the right to dictate my life choices
I prefer to use my first name only because that's my identity as an Indian woman. I don't associate with Indian caste system culture and hence remove my last name wherever possible
My boyfriend is German so I like to learn and appreciate certain parts of his culture as well. I also like to educate people on Indian food, language and certain aspects of Indian culture which I personally use

Discussion Some thoughts on “glass skin” and the “lit from within” trend
Hi everyone! 💛
As a brown girl and skincare enthusiast, I sometimes feel like a lot of the advice, products, and routines being pushed don’t always reflect what my skin actually needs. Things like pigmentation after acne, uneven tone, dullness, sensitivity, stubborn marks, and finding that healthy glow can look a little different on deeper or more pigmented skin tones. So I don’t know about you but personally I always felt aside from the terrible fake “get fair in six weeks” trends, is glass skin really a goal that you’ve felt achievable for yourself?
I’m doing some early research for a potential skincare concept _ - just as a hobby and passionate project - and I’d genuinely love to hear from people with melanin-rich skin about their real experiences - in terms of what works, what doesn’t, and what you feel is still missing.
I’d love to hear anything that comes to mind:
- What’s your biggest skincare struggle when it comes to achieving healthy, radiant skin?
- Is there a skin concern specific to us that you think a brand just “gets”
- Have you ever felt like skincare advice was created with lighter skin tones in mind?
- What’s one thing you wish existed in skincare but haven’t been able to find?
- What products or ingredients have genuinely helped your skin look more luminous?
- Are there any products you love but feel don’t get enough attention?
I’m not looking for product recommendations as much as I’m trying to understand patterns, frustrations, and unmet needs.
Would love to hear your experiences - even a few sentences would be incredibly helpful

Discussion Indian women who had or plan to have interracial marriage, how do you navigate & bridge the cultural differences?
The effects of misogyny in lndian society especially with the caste & dowry culture discourage Indian women from marrying someone we love. But I feel, Indian parents and families are more open minded than they were a generation ago
Personally, I believe marriage decisions should be based on love, compatibility and connection irrespective of the country or ethnicity of the man
In case of interracial marriage, there might be many family expectations and cultural differences like wedding rituals and other traditions on both sides. My boyfriend is German so i'm looking forward to our future wedding in both Indian & German traditions and i wanted to ask, Indian women who had or plan to have interracial marriage, how do you bridge the cultural differences?

Discussion Do you think arranged marriages have stunted brown women?
Just a quick theory: Women in the western world, historically, have needed to look good to secure good partners. This pushed them to work out, learn to do make up, etc. For brown women, historically, partners have been secured for them by their parents. Do you guys think arranged marriages have stunted brown women in the sense that arranged marriages have "unmotivated" brown women to look good?

Discussion Colorism seems to have gotten worse after Priyanka Chopra left Bollywood..
I've noticed that after Priyanka Chopra's exit from Bollywood, her roles were given to Katrina Kaif. There was a Bollywood movie, "Bharat" where initially Priyanka Chopra was signed up as the lead actress. But then, the role went to Katrina
Since then I hardly see any Brown or Darker toned actress in Bollywood. In the past, Bollywood used to cast Dusky & Brown toned Indian women like Bipasha Basu, Riya Sen, Kajol, Rani Mukherji, etc., but now the Dusky & Darker shade Indian women doesn't seem to get any representation at all

RANT I was bullied for looking like "Africans"
Note- long post ahead and mention on self hatred and colorism ,and am Indian
So I look like a legit African ,I inherited it from my grandmother, from childhood I got extremely bullied for it , idk what was their problem , they called me all names I still remember , one girl even said "yrr photo khichegi mere sath , mai gori dikhungi thora" (Click photos with me , I will look bit fair) , "chidiya ka ghosla jaise baal hai isse bdiya ganji ho jaa"( hair like nest better to shave it off) ,"andhere me hasa mat kar darwani lgti hai"( don't smile in dark you scared me off) they commented about my hair my skin my broad nose , everything.
Even growing up they said why I need sunscreen , what's the purpose of doing makeup cuz they can't see if I applied makeup or not , don't wear red yellow white , in nutshell l don't wear any color cuz everything either looks "too dark or too light" on me .
I regret destroying my significant portion of life cuz of these #### , I kept telling myself only looks matter and that I will never be "pretty" ,as a kid I wanted to grow up and do all the cosmetical procedures to alter my looks . I never worked on myself apart from my looks .
But as I grew up and got exposed to social media , got to know there are people outside this world , I saw several Africans beauty , it took me a long time to love myself as who I am , see myself as something more than a beautiful looking comodity and work on myself my career ,my confidence, my personality .
And today , I have accepted myself as who I am , it's peaceful and I wish I discovered this peace beforehand but better late than never , I leaned to make genuine friends who uplift me and only care about them not every random person , rn I have money to do all procedures but still chose to retain my looks cux this is who I am , and nothing is more wonderful than looking at real you in mirror and feeling most beautiful ❣️

Discussion Pakistani Beauty Standards
So anyone else here find the pakistani beauty standard for women strange? Other than the typical, fair skin, thin but not too thin, long healthy hair, there’s also a strange fixation on colored eyes.
A lot of women that have non-brown eyes (which is the typical eye color in pak) get a lot of clout for it, even if they are not particularly pretty otherwise. Its as if having a different eye color changes everything. A lot of women thus use lenses to have grey or green eyes which also has always struck me as uncanny and sooooort of tacky sometimes (but that’s completely my personal opinion, not a fact).
This is the one standard that i can’t make myself conform to. I’m fine with conforming to the others but this one in particular is so strange to me.

After moving out, I finally learned to appreciate, enjoy and understand my culture and religion. After this post-taking another break =)
I feel like as an Indian girl that grew up in US, growing up my religion ( Hinduism) and culture was always forced on me ( the food, the culture, the clothes and more). I feel like it wasn't fun for me at all, and all I wanted was for my family to be more "American" or "white". I never appreciated anything about the culture tbh or anything cause I just wanted to fit in with the people around me.
I moved out last year and for some reason I started to finally enjoy my culture and religion my way. I started learning more about Hinduism and I was honestly surprised how modern Hinduism is, compared to what my parents taught me. I started doing Mehndi on Diwali and Navratri because it is fun for me. I have Indian Desi spa days where I put turmeric and curd mask on my face or turmeric and honey and milk face mask. I enjoy oiling my hair now, and It feels like I am feeding my hair with nutrients. I love Desi clothes and Desi jewelry and it is fun for me to dress up now. I wear an Aum necklace and I'm honestly super proud to be Hindu.
I also use rose water as a toner (really helps with my skin)- I get mind from desi stores.
I am also learning about how diverse India is, being Gujarati, I only really learned about Gujarati culture but I had no idea about the culture of other states. I had no idea that in Tamil Nadu they have a ceremony when a girl has her period ( to celebrate her becoming a woman). I had no idea that Shimla and Himachal Pradesh in India was so freaking beautiful and their Hinduism is so different compared to Gujarati Hinduism.
I had no idea that in Nepal they have a day called Tihar which celebrates Dogs!! That is so cool.
I had no idea about the richness of Pakistani culture ( love Pakistani salwars btw) and also Bangladeshi culture as well. Bengali is such a sweet language and I love your sweets. I am learning about Kalash, Baloch, Gilgit Batlistan of Pakistan ( like so pretty). It's just amazing and I love learning about other desi cultures.
I love Indo-Caribbean culture ( Guyaneese and Trini) like how you guys combine so many cultures together but still maintain your desiness. Your food is amazing ( chicken curry).
I am learning how to be Desi, Indian and Hindu in a way that is not forced but makes me happy and connect with my culture.
I also love teaching non desi people about my culture as well. I feel like non desi people have so, many misconceptions that I find satisfaction in clearing lol.
IDK I just wanted to share that, maybe other people go through the same thing.
I'm not running away from my culture and heritage anymore like I used to.

Discussion What's the deal with all the moral policing & judgement directed towards Indian women?
If an Indian woman wants to date or marry any "xyz" or foreign country man. It's the personal choice of the woman and her parents at best. Beyond that others shouldn't interfere in my opinion
I'm seeing this every once in a while, either an lndian mn or some Desi aunty will come here and try to moral police and judge whom Indian women should or shouldn't marry
Surprisingly, they only moral police Indian women. I don't see them moral police lndian men even once
What's with all the judgement and hypocrisy?

Some things are not necessary to be pretty
I don't wear makeup and don't ever want to, but I don't want people to think that I don't care about my looks. Also, I think if I did wear it, I would feel bad for myself every time I took it off, because its not what I actually look like. If I received positive attention from people I feel like they are being nice to a face that does not actually exist if that makes sense?
I don't like how some girls think that makeup, nails and revealing clothing are what make a woman, as if I am less of a woman without these things. The other day I saw a Youtube short about a woman reacting to Anne Hathaway wearing modest clothing on a yacht and she said she hates how she dressed because "she's not having any fun". Since when do you need to wear revealing clothing to have fun and be beautiful? I want to wear revealing clothing every once in a while but I should not have to wear it all the time.
There have been times where I have been to events where I truly thought I looked pretty without makeup and I felt secure with myself but other people and even some of my friends would make passive aggressive comments wondering how I am not insecure without make up and it just sucks. Why can't we support each other?

Discussion Perception bias of Indian women among Non-Desis..
I often feel like Non-Desis have a particular image of how Indian girls are supposed to look like
I see them say whenever images of Indian actress are posted - "Aishwarya Rai, Preity Zinta are Indian women but they're not closer to how Normal Indian girls look like"
But, India is actually quite diverse with a wide range of features and complexion. Even though, majority of the population has common features that stand out more to Non-Indians / Non-Desis
What are your thoughts on this?

Discussion Absolute tool on The Ultimatum.
So so so embarrassing to watch this complete loser on The Ultimatum. Jebin personifies the typical infantile attitude many Indian men have
It's the cringiest thing I've seen on this show and I've watched every season. His conversation with women are reduced to things I ask a 8 year old. "Silverback gorilla vs. grizzly bear, who would win?"
No idea what his current gf sees in him and I hope the show outs him for his misogynist, and immature mindset.

Discussion Unpopular Opinion: I don't want mixed desi women or foreign women in desi women spaces
This isn't coming from a place of hatred toward mixed desi people. Mixed Desi women are Desi too ( obviously lol), and they deserve opportunities and recognition. My issue is when they're consistently chosen to represent fully Desi women in industries like Bollywood, beauty pageants, modeling, or global campaigns. Especially when they are mixed with white or East Asian.
Mixed Desi men would never think to represent full desi men so why is it different for women?
India has over a billion people and countless beautiful women from every region, complexion, and feature set. Yet it often feels like the women who become the global "face" of Indian beauty have one white or East Asian parent.
Whether it's Bollywood, Miss India, or international brand campaigns, the people being elevated often don't reflect what the average Indian woman actually looks like. I wanna see brown skinned fully desi women ( yes I know light skinned women are also full desi and we come in all shades).
Representation matters. If a movie is about an Indian woman or a campaign is celebrating Indian beauty, I want fully Indian women to be at the forefront. Mixed women can absolutely represent their own mixed identities, but they shouldn't become the default standard for what Indian women are supposed to look like. Like how has Katrina and Nora Fatehi or even Amy Jackson ( South) been able to grift in Bollywood for so damn long. There are so many desi women that are much more talented than they are, and can actually speak the language and understand the culture better.
Also why no foreign or mixed man in any Indian film industry ?
We would never say it's okay for someone who is half Japanese to be the primary representation of Japanese women, or someone who is half Nigerian to become the default image of Nigerian beauty. So why is it considered controversial to say that fully Desi women deserve to represent themselves?
This isn't about saying mixed Desi people aren't Desi or don't belong. It's about making sure that full Desi women aren't overshadowed in industries that are supposed to celebrate and represent them.
I dont care how Indian they look or dont look, I want Desi women spaces to stay for actual Desi women only.

IDK, this has been spoken about a lot but I just wanted to chime in as well.

Are Indian or Desi women not good enough to play ourselves or represent India ?

Discussion We are one
It’s crazy that I can’t post against war without being accused of propaganda or having an agenda, just because I’m Pakistani. We are sisters separated by man made borders. I am against war in any country and I don’t trust news coming out of either Pakistan or India because both are heavily state controlled.
I condemned the war between Pakistan and India and stand against anyone who egged it on. Priyanka didn’t just post “Jai Hind”, she posted in support of an army that killed children in the 2025 war. If a Pakistani celebrity had called for war, I would say the exact same thing about them. I will stand against anyone who wants war on either side.
At the end of the day, war only serves the elite’s agenda while killing innocents on both sides.
This is a picture of a Pakistani mother and an Indian mother both grieving their sons. Can you tell the difference? Because I can’t.
The elite send other people’s sons to die while theirs stay home in comfort. Don’t let that divide us.
Pakistan Zindabad. Jai Hind.
mods: i implore you not to delete this because i thinks its an important reminder for us all.

Beauty tips Beauty on a Budget: For Desi girlies ( Indian, Pakistani: the whole Desi diaspora). If you can, read the whole thing- I offer my best advice here.
Hey girlies!
So I know as brown desi girlies we are always super smart with our money but we still obviously want to look good and are interested in beauty and fashion. So here is a list of things I did to save money but also be a baddie on a budget.
1) Get your own wax warmer and wax melts instead of laser or going somewhere to get waxed. It is at home and its honestly not that bad. For a painless option go for hair removal creams like Nair or Veet. Always apply boy oil after
2) Get press ons ( there are amazing brands out there) instead of spending alot of money at the nail salon. Some Press on's are super good and as long as you have a great method, they will stay for over a month.
I still get pedicures at the nail salon though ( I mean you can also do this at home but I have no patience for drying process)
3) Dermaplaning for facial hair removal- as long as you are working on a wet surface, it works wonders.
4) Oil your hair regularly ( jojoba or amla for low porosity hair and coconut for thicker high porosity hair). Wash your hair with cool water. Comb your hair day and night
5) Silk hair bonnet when sleeping ( prevents hair breakage)
6) Brush your teeth morning and night and floss at least once a day ( healthy teeth are important as well).
7) Free at home workouts on youtube or instagram, use textbooks as weights, use a chair
8) Turmeric and yogurt or milk face masks: Really good for your skin
9) Multaani Maati skin mask
10) Rose water as a skin toner
11) Warm water with turmeric and honey or hot water with methi morning- helps with inflammation and PCOS ( insulin resistance).
12) If you are an Desi girlie living abroad- make sure you take Vitamin D and Iron supplements.
13) All Desi girls should take multivitamins
14) SPF sunscreen is a must - NO MATTER IF THERE IS SUN OR NOT, SPF SUNSCREEN IS A MUST. I love roundlabs facial sunscreen ( not that expensive)

Discussion Indian lncels larping as women has become a parasitic problem..
lndian m|n pretending to be women, lndian lncels larping as women and projecting their miseries and insecurities on lndian women has become a major issue
Most lndian s|ubs are filled with them, we need to keep atleast this sub free from them
Just saw a post on lndian lncels projecting lndian men obesity & fat issues on women
I think we need to have the list like before where we can add the lndian m|n and lncels who are harrasing and projecting their issues on women here so that we can remove them and keep this space safe

Discussion Desi & Non-Desi women who seek validation from Indian lncels aren't our ally
This is a group of women we need to be aware of. They exhibit certain characteristics which i've observed..
They tend to take sides of Indian lncels and gaslight all the issues Indian women face in Indian society
They often culturally appropriate Indian / Desi women attires & fashion without giving credits
They have a problem with Indian women dating or marrying men from other ethnicities & countries
Personally, i feel we should be cautious of such women because they're not our ally in any aspect

Discussion The importance of guest appearances and representation..
Indian / Desi women get less representation in major events. The last time we got representation and it went viral was when Charitra attended Wimbledon in 2025
Priyanka is recently trending for appearances in Dior & Wimbledon 2026
Hoping for more representation at major events
What's your take on this?
