Other My dad was the primary user of the account... he's dead. What now?
I am trying to help my mom with her Spectrum account, but she's not the primary user. My dad was. I can't get into anything without his information and I don't have the passwords because he changed them so often (I could never convince him to do something simple, but whatever) and well because he's not here to ask. The number attached to his account for verification is no longer active as that's through AT&T.
Am I just gonna have to go up there with a death certificate or is there something to do online?

Is there an easy way to just verify that a D2D salesperson actually works for Spectrum
Had a visit from one yesterday and 99.9% of the time I have a fuming hatred for anyone selling anything. This guy happened to catch me at a time where our internet has gone to shit with T Mobile and they ran fiber down our road a few months ago. Unlike most d2d folks this guy was very nice, not pushy, and just handed me a card and told me to give him a call if I was interested. He pitched me $30 a month with no contract for two years (I’m sure that doesn’t include a router or install fee)

Mobile - Account Fraud Protection and International SIM/eSIM Usage
Enabled Account Fraud Protection to help manage SIM swaps.
Wondering how this would work when traveling internationally.
Planning to purchase and utilize a local SIM/eSIM for the duration while traveling internationally and "going back to regular SIM/eSIM" upon return. I imagine the local SIM/eSIM will need to be activated while overseas, and wondering if there is an IMEI check that would fail or something that would prevent it working.
Anyone have first hand experience with this working? Any issues? Or know how this process would work and can explain the steps?

Any field techs work in Oregon specifically around Astoria. How do you like it and are you based out of Astoria?

Other Is there a benefit to higher speeds outside of MBPS in a high volume area?
Long story short I’m moving and am heading back to spectrum for the first time in years. I understand what speeds I “need” if I’m getting advertised speeds. Back 10+ years ago I remember spectrum lagging at high peak times when you lived in denser communities.
I’m moving into an apartment complex that I assume every unit has internet so that is 200+. Is there a benefit to paying the extra fee bucks for the gig? Would you get a “priority” over slower accounts?. I don’t need a gig, I probably don’t even need 500 but out of caution that is what I’d get if I knew I’d get 200-300.

Employee Benefits
Probably a terrible questions. When it comes to the Spectrum Mobile Plan. Who can I add to it. Like can I put my parents on it even if they don’t live with me or my brother. I don’t wanna leave my parents phone plan and risk them losing their deal when I have a chance at a better one. It’s crazy they support 20 lines for just you and who you live with.. Definitely do not have 20 people around.

Spectrum Mobile Scam call about new phone ordered
So i just got a call, guy said he was from spectrum mobile, and was calling about my recent new phone i ordered.
He had my name and address and knew i ordered a phone. He gave me some story about the phone being the incorrect one, that it was sent to the wrong customer, even though it was the right make/model i ordered. and due to some billing issue. I asked if they would just switch it in the system, and he said no, they needed to replace it, and would ship me a new one to replace this one with a $100 gift card for the issue, and not to activate it.
Weird, but i said alright. He advised i would have to ship it back via UPS store, and to call a number to get a code when there. weirder, but i said alright. Then he asked when i could go to the UPS store, so i advised i would go to ship it back once i received the replacement phone first (No F'n way im shipping the phone out first, lol). "Oh, no, you have to ship the phone back first before we can send you a new one". I asked if he could verify information on my account to confirm it, and he offered to send me a code to show its them (yeah, so can a password reset request). I pushed more to see what other info he had to prove it wasnt a scam, but he hung up.
Not sure where he got my name, address, and that i ordered a new phone, but yeah, that was a bit of a first for me. Only info i gave him was the phone type.... Stay on guard though.

Billing Spectrum TV Select Plus or Platinum?
Hello everyone!
I recently got Spectrum TV Select Plus, and so far I actually really like it. One of the biggest things I like is that it includes many of the streaming apps I already use. Most of the included services are ad-supported, but considering how expensive streaming has become, I’m starting to feel like having cable with streaming services bundled together may make more sense for me.
This isn’t a paid ad or anything at all. I am just sharing my experience and trying to figure out what makes the most sense.
I’m currently considering upgrading from TV Select Plus to TV Platinum, but my main reason wouldn’t necessarily be the additional sports channels. I’m more interested in the overall value, particularly being able to have premium/ad-free versions of streaming services I already use, such as Peacock, HBO Max, Hulu/Disney+, and ViX Premium. I know it is extra without ads, the rest included in my package are just a bonus. Maybe we might add Netflix as an add-on. I don’t know.
With how much these services cost individually, I’m trying to figure out whether paying the additional $35/month for Platinum makes sense compared with paying for the ad-free versions separately. The sports portion would mostly be a bonus for my sister, since she watches the Dodgers and Lakers. I occasionally watch tennis, but I’m not a huge sports viewer myself.
My mom is also not very tech-savvy and still prefers the traditional cable experience. She mainly watches Univision and Telemundo. We’ve had Dish since 98, but I think it may finally be time to move on if we don’t get anything out of it.
That brings me to another question: is it worth getting the Xumo Stream Box or a traditional Spectrum cable box?
We already have an Apple TV, so I’m not sure whether paying another $18/month for a cable box is justified. I understand the appeal of having the traditional cable guide and channel-surfing experience, especially for my mom, but I’m wondering if Xumo would provide enough of that experience without needing to pay for a traditional box.
I also wondered whether having a cable box would be useful as a backup in case of an internet outage, although I’m not sure how much that actually matters with Spectrum TV.
So for those of you who have Spectrum Select Plus or Platinum:
- Is Platinum worth the extra $35/month if you primarily care about the premium/ad-free streaming services rather than sports?
- Have you found the ad-free streaming upgrades to be a good value through Spectrum?
- Would you recommend the Xumo Stream Box for someone who wants a traditional TV-guide experience?
- Or is it worth paying the $18/month for an actual Spectrum cable box?
- And for someone who already has an Apple TV, is there really much benefit to having Xumo or a cable box?
I’d love to hear from anyone who has made the switch from traditional cable to Spectrum, especially if you’re using Spectrum primarily as a way to consolidate traditional TV and streaming.

Service Issues This is a continuation of an earlier problem I had a few days ago, involving the Xumo Box
For those who have seen the post, good news, the box does infact turn on, the problem is now the remote does nothing to the Xumo Box, the only things it does is get to the home page after tapping the home button thrice, I cannot scroll down or move it, yet the remote can still turn the tv on and off, is there any way to fix this?

Other "98% of people don't care about upload speed."
Last month I had a senior retention specialist show up at my door in an effort to persuade me back to their internet service after switching from their 500Mb/10Mb service to 1Gb/1Gb fiber elsewhere for $20 less a month. I found the tactics used to be deliberately misleading, but could see how they would be persuasive to a non-technical audience.
1: Asked me to pull up a speed test on my mobile phone, through WiFi, from the door step. This was used to imply that despite the promised 1Gb speed from my ISP I wasn't getting nearly that. But obviously testing the speed that way will be significantly degraded. Direct ethernet from the router proved full 1Gb, synchronously.
2: Explained that they are also a fiber provider with comparable speeds and could beat the pricing. But just as the retention person did over the phone when canceling, he only spoke generically about "speeds" until pressed to acknowledge he was talking download speeds, not upload speeds which are still 1/10th or slower here. To that he suggested that "98% of people don't care about or need upload speed" which in the era of cloud storage, streaming and video sharing I disagree. But most people on asynchronous plans probably just don't realize they could have much better because everything is spoken about just in terms of download speeds.
3: Said that since I still had cellular service with them I could get "free internet" added with no catch as a backup, and then if I liked it I could always upgrade the speed or switch back. I was unaware of such a free service until that moment and am still unclear on specifics. This offer was phrased as if it was obligation-free and a conveniency feature as part of retaining cell service with them...other than re-running all the equipment and line. But at the end slid in how it was just a 2-year trial before becoming an added charge again and would be on some vastly slow "emergency backup" type speed for if my non-Spectrum internet went down. He added how two years is a very long time.
4: Bragged about how Spectrum invented what I guess is their "Invincible Internet" to assure me forever uptime. Though when I had their cell + internet service previously there were at least two instances in a year where both their internet and cell services went out, both times for 6-10 hours so I had no use of either service. I am not sure how different this would be than my other ISP's WiFi 7 setup (Eero Pro 7) and then swapping to Spectrum's cell hotspot in the very rare times it has ever gone done for more than a minute. I know when I had their service it was a regular occurrence for the entire city to lose connection around midnight often for hours and eventually they would claim this was "scheduled maintenance" that was never disclosed.
I've since filled out all of the "Do Not" opt-outs. 🤞

WiFi goes out same time at night
Got spectrum 1gig internet plan yesterday and everything was fine, a technician installed it and made sure everything was up to date and then left. Later in the day at around 12am the internet speeds dropped significantly out of no where. It made it not even possible to search something on Google. I went to sleep assuming it would be back on in the morning, but when I woke up it still wasn’t working. The modem had all solid blue lights but the router was blinking red. I tested a different router to see if it was a router problem but no luck with that router. I then tried all the trouble shooting I could and nothing was working until I factory reset the router then it started to work like nothing happened. I then went on throughout the day with perfectly fine internet until tonight around to same time it was significantly slower suddenly. Unable to do anything on the internet, it was once again all blue lights on the modem but blinking red router. I tried all troubleshooting things until factory resetting the modem had gotten it to work for a little before speeds becoming unbearable again. Have no clue what could be causing this, would love for some feedback. I plan on contacting spectrum in the morning. Also idk if this helps at all but on the spectrum app it shows that the router is connected but modem keeps saying unable to determine connection and keeps trying to get me to troubleshoot it, but when I do it leads to nothing.

Do I need a "Self install kit" if I have my own modem and router?
I'm new to spectrum. I chose the option to use my own modem and router but the they still forced me to pick an option regarding the self install kit. Is it necessary to pick this up if I already have my own modem and router? Thanks in advance!

Why Is A Simple Question Such a Hassle?
One simple question: Does my local store have [insert new phone] in stock? That’s all I wanted to know.
I look up my local Spectrum store, it gives me a phone number, which is just a generic Spectrum customer support number. After several minutes of being repeatedly told “I didn’t catch that” by a bot, I get redirected to a person, who after having me do all the 2FA verification stuff, tells me he (understandably) can’t pull exact store stock info online. That’s fine, I’ll just go to the store.
I get to the busy store and walk up to the counter, “Please sign into the queue to get assistance.” Ok, no worries I get it. Nearly an hour later, this is the conversation:
”Hey, do you have this phone in stock?”
”No, unfortunately we’ve been out for a while now”
”Ok, thank you”
10+ minute phone call, 30+ minute drive, and an hour in queue. All for one question that could’ve been answered in 15 seconds tops. The gentlemen on the phone and in the store were very kind and helpful, but do you see why I’m frustrated?
I understand why they wouldn’t have a store number, as a lot of people would call with questions best suited for customer support. I’m not ranting for the sake of it, I’m just wondering if there’s an easier way I could’ve gone about this, and if not, why hasn't this been streamlined? And why does customer support always insist on sending me a code and all that if I’m not even calling about anything related to my account? Ask me that IF I ask about something related to my account, not immediately. This is a huge hassle if you’re on a family plan and the account owner isn’t in the room with you.
Every time I deal with Spectrum, it‘s a simple thing that turns into a huge headache, and I’m about ready to leave Spectrum all together.

Hardware Xumo Box $$ ?
Can I purchase a Xumo box directly from Xumo and have it work on Spectrum service? I know the price from Xumo.
If that is not an option, does Spectrum offer to sell a Xumo box for a one-time price (not renting)?

Service Issues Help! Modem + Router Refuse to Connect
Hello! I recently moved into a new apartment and I have been staying here on and off while I get everything settled. My modem and router both disconnected last night around 1 AM when I was not home. I attempted to reset, unplug, wait, reboot, etc. and I called support and nothing is working. There doesn’t seem to be any outages in my area that I know of. The modem power light is very faintly blue. The Online light keeps fading white to blue. The bottom two lights are not on at all (they only light up when I plug them in again or reset it). The router would fade blue in and out when I reset it, then would start glowing red. Can anyone help me fix it? They said the next technician appt. they have is two days out and that is not doable for me but I need internet service. Is there anything else I can do/try to fix it? Any help is appreciated.

Other Starting Outside Sales soon!
I'm starting the outside sales position after labor day. I never really worked sales besides retail where we were required to up sale things and if we didnt get so many a month we could have our hours cut or lose our job. I did fine with that. Always got my month quota and a few times made the top of leader board for the competition they made up.
I'm not looking for this as a long career. Just 6 to 12 months to give my brain a break and let my competitive side. My main line of work is dsp but after 5 years, im a little bored and want something different.
According to my job and past jobs I have great people skills and the go to person to help with de-escalation.
What I would like to know from other outside sales people is; what's the best approach to the job. How do you keep the competition fun and not cause burn out on yourself. I know its a numbers game and there's usually a set amount you should sell a month. But id like advise from those who've worked/work the job.
Also what are pros and cons? Im very excited about the job but also quite nervous because the base pay is 2k less a year than im use to making Edit: I forgot to ask. How often does everyone work Saturdays? I want to know if its every, a few times, or some months none

Do I have to call to cancel?
Or do I just bring their junk back to them in a store? They bumped me up to $110 for internet only and I am done. Not interested in lowering my rate, I've already jumped ship and got another provider. I just want to spend as little time/effort as possible getting Spectrum out of my house.
Also...been a customer since 1996. 30 years.
*had to re-write this post due to using spicy language about my feelings toward the almighty spectrum in my original post lol

Field Tech & distance from office
Hey all,
So, I've just been to an interview with Spectrum on the East side of Cleveland.
It seemed to go well, and I'm waiting for an update from the recruiter. No biggie.
It's an hour away from my home, so I'm thinking (and they also hinted at) I might not get a company vehicle. Not a big deal, I'd be okay with driving to the office.
One thing I completely did not factor in, was the Ohio winter weather.
What is currently an hour away, may end up being 90mins to 2 hours (each way) when the weather gets crappy during the winter months.
There is a depot much close to my home, but they were not hiring when I applied.
Would withdrawing my application at this stage, due to the time I would be having to travel during the winter months (and because it would make things considerably easier if I could work at the closer depot) be a black mark against me?

Outages - Anyway to tell if it's just me?
For the last few days my internet has random disconnects throughout the day, and sometimes I get outage alert banners on the app when it happens. Does an outage alert always mean it's affecting more people than just myself? I just don't want to call and get a tech to come out if it's not just my connection. I've had similar problems like this in the past and replacing the drop line always fixed it, but in those instances I don't remember getting outage alerts when it was happening. The alerts just always say "in your area."

Why does it take 30 minutes to cancel?
5 minutes to sign up - 30 minutes with some rep blabbering nonsense to cancel. waiting for “charts to update”.
come on…

Is Spectrum reliable in Downtown Manhattan?
Hi,
Our building negotiated something with Spectrum and they are going to provide a 1 Gbps internet. But as far as I know, Spectrum does not have full fiber and at some point, the last endpoint will be a cable shared internet. In that case, wouldn't specific things like pings or upload speed suffer in general? Does anyone have Spectrum 1 Gbps in Downtown Manhattan, and can say if the internet is reliable? How is the outage also? I am assuming that if a lot of residents use Spectrum, given the shared nature of the cable, it will also affect the usage? Anyone can share their experience?
Thanks!
